Steve - Disagree

Steve, I disagree with "These types of public interchanges are kind of exclusionary and tend to make visitors that don't yet know "GPK, Hooves, Scav, Oracle, S2S, etc" feel like they're outsiders.. I'd prefer we not give that impression..."

While I will respect your opinion on this because this is your house, hear me out.

Message boards are based on relationships and a perfect example of that is the LDK thread today, we talked about it and others learned an angle. Us in America have become to private with our conversations and that is why people could feel like outsiders. If Kev would have sent that to me via PM, then a conversation about the race or further relationship building couldn't have happened, like it did. I never would have established the relationships that I have established, or learned the things I have learned if it wasn't for a message board like this.

You can't have fun in the pool without getting wet is basically what I am getting at. I personally think that there are people on here that make it intimidating to post, and that has completely subsided with proper governerce.

Hopefully this post alone will be read by people that don't post yet and it will make them start posting because all knowledge, even if it is wrong or misguided, is a good thing. Hopefully they will realize that 95% of the water is a perfect temperature

Revolution 10-13-2006 06:57 PM

Explain to me why you couldn't have PM'd him this.

I know this board is a little more personal than a few others, but you guys are unreal. You want a little personal playbox and you want Steve to pick up the tab.

There are like 10 different sections, put them where they belong.

Maybe they can make a section and call it Oracle's sandbox, or Scav's playbox.

Scav 10-13-2006 07:00 PM

I didn't PM this because I wanted OTHERS to agree with me. Steve is a person that will listen to EVERYONE'S opinion. That is what makes good things great, and good people great. Steve and I have a great relationship. People don't want to agree with me then fine. I am also going to respect his opinion on it either way, but I disagree with that statement, and I am sure others will also.

As far as Steve picking up the tab on this, you are putting words on my mouth and others, which is ridiculous. He did this on HIS OWN ACCORD.

Revolution 10-13-2006 07:04 PM

You know what, you are right. These are annoying but I can just jump over them. Oracle is just so annoying that when he does it is really annoying.

There is no reason to ruin the personal nature of the board. I just find Oracle such a hypocrit and so annoying that when he does it I get annoyed because he is one of those jerks that sends threatening PM's and thinks he can have his own set of rules.

Maybe everyone can do it except Oracle. LOL.

I really don't want to comment on this, but your last comment was unneeded in regards of this conversation

2MinsToPost 10-13-2006 07:12 PM

Scav,

I agree 100%. Sometimes, some of us want to get someones attention on this board but yet we also want others thoughts and opinions as well. No harm, in my humble opinion, in those threads you speak of. We are adults after all, and if their is something we feel the need to convey to another member without others knowledge, the feature is available for our use as many I am certain use on a daily basis.

The beauty of this board is that anyone that is a member may click on any thread and read and respond at their will. Over time they will find who the ones are that are "questionable". I can be that at times:o

Revolution 10-13-2006 07:13 PM

You know what, I see you are like Oracle, who loves to post these personal things that clutter boards.

Go ahead, if you guys are in such need of attention that you can't PM each other, maybe it is what makes you happy.

Honestly, I have never seen it on other boards. It is almost like a cry for attention. You guys should get together with my housemate.

Scav 10-13-2006 07:19 PM

Rev, come on man, we have talked via PM and via the board, I FEEL your frustration....I couldn't agree more that conversations involving a person should be PMed, like the post that Oracle posted. But in 7 years, I have never seen him post something like that, he is 99% about horses, 1% about Seattleallstar.

timmgirvan 10-13-2006 07:20 PM

Hey Rev: you can join the party, but egos need to be checked at the door! If you come with an attitude, then you shouldn't be surprised when you're answered with one

Scav 10-13-2006 07:21 PM

I never would have established relationships with people like randall or hooves if I didn't respond to them on a thread and then start talking. (YES, Pletcher just got up in the 3rd at Meadowlands) :)

Tim, Rev is a good dude, he is just frustrated, I don't think he has an attitude at all

Revolution 10-13-2006 07:24 PM

Scavs is right. The posts are no big deal. I am sure it annoys nobody but me and I only post here if they leave it on the computer. No need to change because of one person that rarely posts.

I prefer a different style, and there are plenty of other boards. No need to change due to one person's preference.

timmgirvan 10-13-2006 07:24 PM

Okie dokie,Scavs....good enough for me!

Easy. My reputation here is clearly tainted due to my housemate, who won't be back until January.

You guys are nice people, there is no need to rain on your parade. My friends brother leaves tomorrow and my friend is gone for the semester. I am sure my interest in horse racing will die until the triple crown season.

See you in the spring.

Hey, how about the winner in the 4th at Belmont today!

Scav 10-13-2006 07:28 PM

Forget that....What do we like in the early pick four at Los Al tonight?

timmgirvan 10-13-2006 07:29 PM

Rev: see my previous post! why would your interest die? There's alot of good racing around, just have to pick your spots

I am all over this Meadowlands Tonite, late races. Wh am I kidding? It's all Park Ave, or is it?

Scav 10-13-2006 07:30 PM

I like Master Command alot tonight, maybe with We Can Seek...Meadowlands has been playing to closers lately

Kasept 10-13-2006 07:35 PM

It's funny this came up at all because I really was thinking of asking about trying to limit the "Personal Message as Threadstrarter"...

Would like everyone's input.. They do OCCASIONALLY get a quality thread going, but for the most part seem to be limited exchanges...

Perhaps the answer is a "threadstarter" with an actual topic first and a paranthesied directive after?

i.e. "BEL P6 today! (Hooves? Orca?)"

Feel free to provide feedback... This folds into an exchange Bolb Bklyn and I had this week.. Happy to see if the Trailers want to take an active role in helping maintain the guidelines around the Forum...

The second I say this and a friggin horse goes gate to wire, unbelievable

timmgirvan 10-13-2006 07:50 PM

Steve: As happy as I am to be here, I don't know all the people well enough to preume to PM them. Have used the PM on occasion, due to not wanting a personal answer to be posted. Whatever guidelines that you deem appropriate are fine by me!

Steve also picks up the profits if this thing is a success and attracts advertisers and ... ultimately ... a buyer.

That's called entrepreneurship ... free market capitalism ... risk taking ... profit seeking ...

... and I hope Steve can reap the rewards of his hard work and investment.

Maybe it would be a good idea for Steve to charge an annual membership fee ... the higher the better ... to keep out all the riff-raff ...

... not that anyone here could be described as riff-raff.

GPK 10-13-2006 09:39 PM

In all honesty...it's just a habit with me. Being a golf professional for so many years, a big role we play is in customer service. A big part of customer service is making people feel comfortable by using their names when addressing them. It is just something I have been doing for 15+ years now...and it carrys over to my conversations on here. In no way, shape or form am I attempting to exclude or discourage anyone from reading or responding to my threads that may be addressed to someone in particular...in fact, I encourage it. It's just the way I converse with people.

Apologies to anyone that may have been offended by those types of post.

BUT, in all fairness Steve, I posted 2 threads in the Sections Forum that produced nice winnings to anyone that may have played them. Hardly anyone posted on those threads...Sniper made 1 comment on one and Gander on the other. Too many people seem interested in arguing about Polytrack in the millionth thread about it...or beating each other up about Bernardini and the shieks and all the other B.S. that none of us have any control over. No body seems actually interested in handicapping and making scores anymore.

Im sorry...I am gonna stop now, as I am going off on a tangent.

Speaking of our exchange ... which may also be described as a bloody knife fight ... and in light of your Groucho icon ...

... "A Day At The Races" ... featuring the fictional horse High Hat ... was on Turner Classic Movies last night!

How's that for an extreme and stunning coinkydink?

Its all about opinions. Like this topic is still listed on the main forum. Some feel it should be here, some feel it should be in another location.

In the case dealing with the Dr. Chainsaw thread, I do not agree with Steve on locking it up and sending it on its way. I know Chainsaw is a friend of Steve's, but when I see an email from the good Doctor, I might just reply with: 'hey Steve created Derbytrail.com and some forum members wonder when you are going to show up with your wit and knowledge?'

Some people might just offer some insight to answer questions asked if they were directed toward someone else. This might help in the long run. If you do want just a response of who you are directing to, then just PM it.

But IF YOU ARE NOT INTERESTED THE THREAD, JUST SKIP IT!!!! IT IS SO EASY TO DO. I haven't been on here since Wed. Night. So I get on here to catch up and skip the threads that I'm not interested to catch up anyways. I like how this forum has a mark forum thread section. AS a suggestion I would like to have that option for the individual categorize threads.

As far as setting a precedence like "i.e. "BEL P6 today! (Hooves? Orca?)," people are not always going to follow it. Like me as a second job a write for a website short excerpts of information. But as quick as I go through things, I might leave something out, and my grammar might be off. My info. might be printed as is, or edited, or sent back to me to please explain further.

Really its not a big deal. But in the my own opinion, the only threads that should be locked and deleted are the ones with verbal sparring attacks between posters, and ones that considered libelous enough warranted to any suit.

Eh.. I disagree with this. The moderators' job isn't just to eliminate offensive material, but also to cut down on clutter. I'm gonna stay mum on the rest of this subject, but I just wanted to say that.

So define clutter? That sounds kinda subjective.

WHAT???!!!
So you want to follow fascism on this board?

ateamstupid 10-15-2006 04:53 PM

You know what I mean by clutter. There's a lot of complete ****ing nonsense on this board and don't act like I'm pulling this out of my ass. There are numerous threads that either belong somewhere else, belong in PM, serve no purpose but to rile people up, or rehash the same points that have been made 1,000 times earlier. It wastes space. I don't care how harmless you think it is.. If it isn't trimmed down, sooner or later we have a total mess. So stop pretending you don't know what I'm talking about.

Ateam I agree, but for every poly thread you think may be clutter, there are those of us who are gonna puke if one more Bernadini thread goes up, LOL!!
What I'm saying is, one man's clutter is another man's I wanna read this thread.
I mean, I get yelled at for throwing up a Hey Steve what about Chainsaw, and Hooves posts a way to go Chuck(who I happen to love, no problem here with that) which is basically the same thing. Thats a bull**** double standard. How do you decide the relevance between them?
(And I'm busting your balls on bernadini)

hoovesupsideyourhead 10-15-2006 05:30 PM

way to go chuck..and dini rules..lol nice co s at belmont and keenland...
