atty gen. holder was in paris, don't get why he didn't go.

Didn't we just have a whole international thing about repressing freedom of speech and expression? From what I recall (it's only been a few days) it was pretty poignant.

Maybe the National Jewish Democratic Council can hold a joint rally with the Stand for the Prophet folks to "Demand Honor and Respect".

Don't like it? Think the statement is in "poor taste"? Fine. You have that right. And have every right to express you opinion about it.

You have no right, however, to "demand an apology" - anymore than the wolves in sheeps clothing that will gather in Texas this weekend do to "demand honor and respect".

Danzig 01-13-2015 01:15 PM

yeah, i always go 'pfft' when people demand an apology. that and when people immediately demand someone lose their job about every little thing.

Agree completely. Nothing like making the massacre of 17 political.

Shame on both sides.

GenuineRisk 02-16-2015 06:10 PM

The background on the initiative he doesn't want to fund makes it even worse:

http://www.clarionledger.com/story/n...lure/23443737/

Basically, the state wants to set up a new way of testing third-grade literacy, which could result in a much larger number being held back every year. It's similar to a program put into place by Florida, but the difference is that Florida is funding it and Mississippi isn't. Soooo... higher standards for reading, but absolutely no resources spent to try to help students meet those standards.

So this a**hole's philosophy is, since the parents of these kids are poor and on food stamps, their kids shouldn't get an education to help them break out of poverty. Right. That makes sense.

And the sad thing is, the poorer schools need the most money spent on literacy because they're the schools where the kids come into kindergarten already very far behind their middle-class peers, because they're less likely to have had their parents read to them or talk to them a lot. Literacy skills start long before kids start school, and poor kids come in at such a disadvantage that most of them never catch up:

http://www.urbanchildinstitute.org/a...racy-and-early

"By age three, children from wealthier families have typically heard 30 million more words than children from low-income families. When they reach school, children from low-income families have one-fourth the vocabulary of children from wealthier homes. By the time children from low-income families enter kindergarten, they are 12-14 months below national norms in language and pre-reading skills."

Ugh. Depressing.

Danzig 02-16-2015 06:22 PM

And it has also been shown that kids in lower income homes lose more ground each summer than the wealthier kids. These kids need a decent education at least! How else break the cycle of poverty?
His blatant racism is disgusting.

WTF :wf

Can we crowd-fund enough to buy a Burger King franchise and send her over to Syria to manage and hand out jobs? Not so sure about the 'have it your way' though. ;)

This was the train of thought FORMER IL Gov. Quinn followed when giving known gang members jobs and facilities meant to prevent shorty's recruitment into the gangs. The facilities were quickly turned into heroin drug stores though must admit it did produce jobs. If 'heroin salesman' is considered a job.

Moreover I think there should be a 'Jacob Series'

Jacob's Obese Family

Jacob's Ugly Parents

Jacob's New Glasses

Jacob's Stutter

Jacob Pees His Pants etc. etc.

Of course a letter could have been drafted notifying parents of 'Jacob' and the bullying he was being subjected to with a recommendation of having a discussion with their children including the suggestion of reading the book to them.

But then again we're no longer raising our children, the village is.

No, no! That civil disorder was just fine because GOD BLESS AMMURRRICA!

They'll just skip over the 3/5 compromise section of the Constitution and go straight to the part where Southern Christians ended slavery and generously helped the Indians move out west by giving them the reservations.

Or something.

How ironic to have someone who never learned to write in complete sentences what more capitalizing the first word of a sentence critiquing A.P. high school classes.

Actually, not so ironic as it is ignorant.

Then again, they say ignorance is bliss.
