Juan Saez (1997-2014)
tweeted by claire novak @ BH
" jock Juan Saez airlifted to Methodist Hospital after bad spill in the 8th at Indiana Grand. Horse euthanized." Prayers go out to him for a good outcome and speedy recovery. http://jockeytalk360.com/ |
I didn't see it nor want to but I did hear he is in critical condition...there were multiple accidents in the race at different points..the rest of the card was cancelled
|
Im reading on FB that he has passed away.
Very sad. RIP |
Sorry to hear this. RIP
|
I played race 2, 4 and 6, then had to go out for a bit, so I didn't see the accident (Thank God!). So sorry to hear of this. Is he Luis Saez's brother? So, so sad. I know it's part of the game... I mean there are incidents in other sports, but... I don't know. ::sigh:: Not that this has anything to do with the accident (I don't know if it does or doesn't), but the conditions at Indiana Grand today looked awful. Is there something such as gambler's guilt, or is it just a girl thing??

Brian Zipse reports that Juan Saez did not survive his spill at Indiana Grand. R.I.P
I read that on the homeless handicapper page on FB. The poster is the leader who is on top of his ****. Hopefully they are wrong though..... |
Lets pray this is not true and that he is still alive fighting for his life.
Byron king is reporting the hospital stated he is still alive. |
Silence.. as we wait and pray.

Wow , so sad 17 years old.
I know they cancelled at Indiana today, but he had mounts at Keeneland today. It's hard to look at the pp's. |
An absolute tragedy.
I read where he flew home to Panama on Monday to surprise his father for his Birthday and now he's gone. Just heart-breaking. My deepest sympathies and condolences go out to his family. |
RIP

Sad statistic - " According to the Jockeys’ Guild, Saez is the 153rd jockey since 1940 to be killed in a race in North America. He is the first to lose his life since Jorge Herrera died in July 2012 at Pleasanton in Northern California." |
Very tragic news. My sympathies to the Saez family.
|
That is absolutely brutal. Deepest condolences to the Saez family.
|
Tragic.
Wishing strength and comfort to his family and to all who knew him. |

According to the article, Jeremy Rose was originally scheduled to ride the horse Montezuma Express but did not show up. Malcolm Franklin then was booked to ride but took off his mounts in the later races because he felt sick. Saez then took the ride late. Also, contrary to Indiana Grand's original release, Montezuma Express was not euthanized and fortunately is back at his Churchill Downs barn this morning with only cuts but otherwise seems to be fine. Horrifically tragic. |

Jockeys to honor Juan Saez in the Breeder's cup.
"The Jockeys' Guild says jockeys will wear a patch during Breeders' Cup weekend with the initials of Juan Saez on their pants or boots as well as a black band to recognize him and other riders who have been killed during a race or as a result of race-related injuries. All jockeys will be asked to donate at least one losing mount fee on Oct. 31 or Nov. 1 to a fund established to help Saez's family."
