Saratoga 2014 Thread

OK - time to start off this years Spa information.

Brisnet's Dick Powell is always a good read (to me at least ). This article is one about Jocks .

The new show on HRTV, The Horizon, will be a great resource for 2yos at Saratoga and other tracks.

Where is Powell's data to support his "extreme anti-speed bias" in Belmont turf sprints theory?

Alabama Stakes 07-08-2014 12:08 PM

bias is more a differing opinion than fact, is it not ? you can look at all the data you want, there are other factors involved.

Good question, why not send him an email ? I try to avoid turf sprints myself.

Hi - May I ask, do you subscribe online or get it on TV in a package ? Is it worth it ? I can only get it online .

Me too. I will bet a turf route of any class, anywhere. But 5f-6f, I generally pass.

online. I really enjoy it, but I also don't have cable so it is about the only thing I have to watch so I may find it more entertaining than it really is. :D

Anyone know if Carolina BBQ under Steve's supervision will be back again this year?

No.. Sorry Larry. Wrestled with the decision all winter but just can't justify the time and expense involved. I didn't feel I could attend to both the show and BBQ ably.

Powell - Spa Turf sprints

Another missive on Saratoga, this time a look at Turf sprints, my personal bane. Maybe I will learn something for my p4 bets when in the sequence. Didnot know there were so many run.

Carolina Barbecue???

Steve - Will it makes its return in 2014? And will you be broadcasting live from the deck?

ateamstupid 07-16-2014 05:41 PM

Steve answered this earlier in the Saratoga 2014 thread:

Understandable but regrettable.

Thanks.

For the folks from the area - any new restaurants/bars worth checking out this year?

The old 'Saratoga Dining' threads pointed to some nice spots over the years.

Crown@club 07-18-2014 09:47 AM

My regular boss is currently in the hospital after having surgery yesterday to correct a valve with his bladder.......Now currently calling for his laptop because "Its Toga Day!"

Saratoga Announcer Come September 1st

While we said our 24th and final "they're off at Saratoga!" chorus with Tom Durkin yesterday, it got me to thinking about the next voice of the NYRA. At first, I thought that Vic Stauffer was a more than able "lock" for the role year 'round followed by Larry Collmus for the Saratoga summer meetings as needed.

In thinking back over Tom Durkin's complete 43 year career, the light bulb went off with another name from the New York area - Sam McKee.

Durkin moved from the Meadowlands and it would seem that Sam McKee has both the respect and capability to be a multiple decades long voice for NYRA.

So, three names now in play in my mind : Stauffer, Collmus, and McKee - all with excellent credentials to hold the post.

Indian Charlie 07-19-2014 01:11 PM

It seems unlikely that NYRA would use a caller from California.

They have brought in Martin Panza and he has revolutionized the racing office. Perhaps the bias in this West Coast vs. East Coast thinking should go by the wayside.

Fair enough!

If you aren't reading Doug's Twinspires blog, you are missing out. Nailed the exacta in the first today. Good stuff :tro:

Thanks.

Would've had the straight Superfecta if the Kimmel favorite (who was bet surprisingly hard) didn't finish 3rd.

Read that Samraat is injured and will miss Dandy and that Wicked Strong worked in blinkers and will have them on next out

On the announcer deal, why is everyone overlooking John Imbriale as successor ?

On the blogs- CRIST IS BAAAACK !:D Blogging Weds - Sunday @ DRF, was live to 3 in P6 and mighty cristy unfortunately struck out :(

Stauffer is a great steward and should not give it up.
Collmus just signed with CD,but do think he wanted NY, didn't know.
Mckee is a good race caller and he never came to mind for Tbreds, but think his heart is with the Sbreds.

Should be a very busy day as they have beefed up the card with 3 more stakes, Vanderbilt, Test and Delarose and lots of folks want to see
Palice Malice. Goto this link and look under Stakes nominations link
http://www.nyra.com/saratoga/horsemen/area/

This Saturdays card is a nice one too for Dandy .
