Sad news.. Dr. Dave Magliaro (docicu) gone

Have the sad responsibility of reporting Dr. Dave's unexpected passing. The news came inadvertently to Jack (Slews My Hero) last week through correspondence with Dave's wife. He was a great fan and loved to play the game. He was here with us all from the start of Derby Trail and some of us got to know him in person, especially Hooves when he was working for a stretch near Maryland. He was very supportive of everyone's horseplaying and always appeared sincerely happy when someone did well. And of course whenever there was a traumatic jockey injury, 'docicu' was on hand to let us know what to expect. Will be missed... RIP Doc.

A doctor that genuinely cared about people. A rare thing.

What happened Steve?

philcski 05-07-2014 08:53 AM

Had the pleasure of spending several days at the races with Doc, including the very memorable Rachel Alexandra Preakness. He was there for me for support and explanation when I went into panic mode over my mother's ovarian cancer. A truly wonderful gentleman, scholar, and friend that is gone too soon. RIP Dave this Preakness is for you :(

Would anybody be interested in sponsoring a race in MD in his honor? I'd be happy to coordinate if there is interest.

GBBob 05-07-2014 08:55 AM

He always took time to provide thoughtful insight and perspective to medical and non medical topics. Unfortunately never had an opportunity to meet Dave, but he sounds like he touched many lives. Very sad to read this and RIP.

Not entirely sure but he had his own health issues off and on the last few years. This was sudden though so heart attack would be assumption.

Doc was a great guy. I still have a private message of his, that I've saved all along, from back when I had some dental issues.
