Devastating news for Zenyatta fans

http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...f-from-foaling

Some of the reader comments are gold.

I would bet it has to due with the timing and how late in the year it is.

Odd. She'd still be having an early May foal which isn't horrid (not even breeding on the foal heat). I'd have bred her this year and then give her the 2016 year off.

I wish the Mosses would sack up and and send her to someone interesting. Galileo or dare I think a Sunday Silence horse like Deep Impact or Daiwa Major? The latter would put some speed in her.

Was that directed at Alabama cause his comment was funny.

Yours are just predictable.

What is it about her that enrages you so? Are these threads that mock her and her fans directed at people here (?) cause I see no evidence of the kind of juvenile (and sometimes cute... so many of them are just girls for God's sake) banter that I will assume are in the comments section of the link you posted (have not looked).

In talking about her you end up coming off as smug, superior and intolerant which is a shame cause I don't think that's the way you are.

She won a hell of a lot of races. Her people were accommodating to her many fans and continue to find joy in sharing any silly thing about her with the public.

People will always talk about her...mainly with fondness and, of course, some in a more overblown, fanatical way (just like any group of fans, no?).

Why don't you get over it, let go of this weird resentment thing and just let people who love her continue to do so without being judged?

There are worse things in this world than love.

Are you freakin serious?

My posts on this are certainly predictable, but most of the rest of how you read me on this is way off.

Enraged? How about apathetic?

What I am doing is poking fun at her fans, who seem to have no grip on reality.

The only thing at all that bothers me about the whole Zenyatta 'thing' is how she was handled by her connections (can't fly over mountain type of nonsense) and the subsequent canonization of those said connections.

Apathetic? Starting a thread over three years after she was retired to mock her fans and you're being apathetic?

Riiiight.

That's priceless.

Geez all we need now is an appearance by (EDITED FOR HERKIE) with his bromance avatar and we'll have the fanboy trifecta.

Or maybe that would just be the exacta... not sure what to make of you and the Zenyatta thing, Charlie. It's pretty creepy though... making fun of girls who love a horse.

Maybe it makes you feel like a manly man. Who knows.

Sorry, Luv... didn't get the memo that we can only insult teenage girls.

I did edit out the other name.

To be fair, the Rachel tat is on a dude, not a little girl. In fact, none of the tats are on little girls. Those people are nut jobs. Though Freddy's on the money -

The nut job that saw Zenyatta on her honeymoon? Yeah, I'd hit that.

Reading comprehension would go a long ways in helping you understand why many people think the zenyatta love/hype machine is such an absurdity.

And for God's sake, I ain't talking about little girls. I'm referring to people who should know better, including some well known writers, and anyone who voted her horse of the year.

One final And. I'm completely apathetic about the horse. I don't hate her, I don't love her, nothing in between either.

In case you have not figured it out yet, I have a tendency to mock absurdities.

Just because people find the zenyatta love cult to be such an extreme absurdity does not mean we all wish her to break a leg and then spend an eternity chasing Blame to the wire.

OldDog 05-08-2014 12:53 PM

Bill Barich, lead writer for the HBO racetrack-themed series "Luck," . . . captivated an audience at the Asian Racing Conference May 7 during a session titled, "Connecting Racing with Popular Culture".

"When my first book (Laughing in the Hills) was published people wrote to me, and at least two-thirds of them wanted to tell me their story of how they got into racing," said Barich. "Invariably they began with 'I had an uncle, a father—somebody—who took me to the races as a child,' and when they're a child they're not interested in the gambling aspect, they're interested in the horse. And I really think that's the thing that's got to be sold through popular culture. It's the thing that keeps people involved."

"The attraction of racing is the horse," he said. "What actually attracts people to racing is a charismatic horse. The face of racing is always the horse."

really ? an eternity chasing Blame. She'd catch him and mess him up even with a broken leg. brings back memories of Rachel chickening out at Oaklawn.
Any hoss any time at any distance on any surface....Zen will run by . She could come back now and whip these hosses. The only one who stopped her was Mikey and the Sandman. It just never gets old......

People who successfully mock absurdities, and there are a couple here who do it extraordinarily well, do not have to point out that they are mocking absurdities.

Sorry for whatever is wrong with you that you get a kick out of insulting a very good horse and her fans.

This is usually true, but not when it comes to the Zenyatta die hard fans (the ones that foam at the mouth and also think that any remark aimed at them are insults hurled at the horse herself).

What is wrong with me is that Zenyatta fans think I'm insulting the horse, which is asinine.

WTF MMSC?

1) Other posters are correct, she never does pass Blame.

2) Rachel didn't chicken out. She's a horse, she had no say in what race she entered. It made no sense whatsoever to enter that Apple Blossom based on what she was doing at the time. Better to just avoid the thing. Zenyatta could've come to Saratoga and faced Rachel in the Woodward. She didn't. Top form from both ladies is the goal or I just don't see the point. Besides which, they're both capable of beating males. Put them in an open company race (like the Woodward) and face whoever'll come. Not fillies only. They shouldn't only be thinking about each other as the class of the race. There'd likely be a small field. Open company in a G1 would expand the field size.

3) Mike Smith in no way caused Zenyatta to lose, whatever sword he might try to fall on on her behalf. Her running style did her in when confronted by a horse with enough talent and tactical speed.

Alabama Stakes 05-10-2014 12:10 AM

you mean the style of passing everyone in every race except one, where she came from Guam to just miss ? She was never passed by anyone. That style ?
