Seattleallstar 04-23-2014 05:47 PM

why isnt Stevens on Bayern, did he already commit to Candy Boy? Or has Baffert stopped using him, I know they haven't done well lately together

Really? I did not realize that. I thought I read originally that there were points for the race, which makes sense, since it is at CD.

Yes, this is the first year with no points.

Jay Frederick 04-24-2014 09:18 AM

Liking Myositis Dan more and more in this spot.

Jackson 04-25-2014 08:46 AM

Actually, Bayern doesn't need points just graded earnings. I think if he wins he would earn enough graded earnings to make the field as the 20th horse pushing Harry's Holiday out.

he doesn't belong.

Jackson 04-25-2014 09:06 AM

saw that, which was why i changed my comment.

i can't imagine baffert running him right back...but i could see bayern showing up for the preakness.

Do you think he would if Hoppurtunity wins the Derby? Would be an interesting conversation between him and Kaleem Shah I bet.

this is why i can't imagine juggling horses, or why i wouldn't want my 'big' horse in a barn with other big ones. it's the downside to having these super trainers.
are they doing what's best for horses, or themselves? do you tell an owner no because you don't want to explain to another owner why you ran a horse against his?

that's what i call a sticky situation.

PJR 3.0 04-25-2014 11:27 PM

It's Myositis Dan for me. Bayern is the horse to beat, but I have three red marks against him, play against angles if you will.....
1.) Short return off a big effort
2.) Cheap speed in here hurts him
3.) He has to go from the one

Jackson 04-26-2014 12:28 AM

I guess Baffert stated that Bayern wouldn't run back even if he did make the field. A run at the Preakness seems more likely if he runs well.

Seattleallstar 04-26-2014 09:32 PM

Bs call, bayern was bumped first and drift in stretch was
50/50

Kasept 04-26-2014 09:38 PM

Please Jerry... Save it. Call was a slam dunk. The bumping was mutual and then hapless Napravnik made the decision automatic herding the winner 4 paths.

Mutual? She freaking started it!

Also, why 5 wide into the first turn?

PJR 3.0 04-27-2014 01:59 AM

From what I saw taking him down was the right call. I had Myositis Dan, so purely an unbias observation.

IrishofNDMan 04-27-2014 02:18 AM

I didn't bet the race, just watched it and think the call to take Bayern down was TERRIBLE! Even though I had no money on it the thought of having the winner and being screwed out of my money like this makes me think this game is even more impossible.

You saw the race, but did you see the head on?

Agree Steve that was an Easy Call, Didn't notice it at first during the Live running as I was watching our colt.

NTamm1215 04-27-2014 10:08 AM

That was one of the easiest DQs you'll ever see.

philcski 04-27-2014 10:40 AM

Not sure how you can argue against a DQ here... I agree with Nick and Steve, about the easiest call possible. Come out 4 paths and you're coming down.

Yeah I did, watched it again today and can see why the dq was made.

*note to self- don't watch a race replay at 3am after a night of drinking and post on derbytrail haha.

Absolute no brainer from the head on, 4 paths I think I counted! Bayern had to come down.

Indian Charlie 04-27-2014 07:58 PM

I think a case could have been made for DQ'ing Bayern for the first round of bumping as well.

tanner12oz 04-27-2014 08:06 PM

Good call

How was he the best horse? The top 2 duel the entire way and he cant pick them off? I thought he hung, badly.

He would have won if he didn't have to alter course a bit when the 4 came out on him. Once he accelerated the only thing that was beating him was the diminishing length of track he had left.
