All that matters moving forward. Easily the most important sporting event until the Derby. Which by the way is the second longest continuous sporting event after the Derby. Sure the bitches may have a slight advantage, but with 3 new breeds this year, it is sure to be something special.
1. Chinook- NH sled dogs in the working group.
2. Portuguese podengo pequeno- Hound group. I don't know **** about this dog but I can't wait to see it
3. Rat terrier (Terrier group) -"An American breed that may have originated from a variety of terriers, greyhounds and beagles, they were very common on farms in the early 20th century to battle jackrabbit infestation. As their name suggests, rat terriers are exceptionally good at catching rodents, but they're also playful, sensitive and anxious-to-please and make good family pets as well as therapy and service dogs."

Come early and come often. I think Chanel the whippet, my favorite show dog has been retired, but there is someone out there who will catch my eye this year and be the next must see mutt.

Sporting event? It's a beauty contest, not sports. I like dogs and all, but come on.

I actually disagree. More of a sport than golf.

many of the dogs actually have roles other than show dog. many of the dogs that would be hunting dogs are bird dogs, etc. there are trials for sporting and working dogs, and some of these dogs do those, agility trials and the like. they aren't all just fancy lap dogs. and all the dogs should have the ability to perform their traditional tasks.

I know this, but do they do these things for that show? I'm just talking about the dog "shows", not other contests. I've actually helped out at shows for sighthounds where they do lure coursing and stuff like that. That stuff is sport.

Couldn't they at least catch a frisbee or something at Westminster instead of just prancing around? :)

Seriously, what part of a dog show involves sport? I'd really like to hear this.

They are having a Master Agility category this year, but it's a first.

hey, if they can have stupid figure skating at the olympics, i guess they can call the dog show a sport.

but i get your point. it's not a sport, it's an activity.

and i'd watch figure skating if they would allow a hockey player to come in now and then and throw a hip check. now, that would be sporting!

Sadly, that is what is missing from many of the dogs in the conformation ring, in my opinion.

The AKC puts on a great assortment of events, most of which I consider sport, but as for me the conformation ring represents more politics than sport. The pup above has zero chance of attaining BIS at Westminster, even if he conforms 100% to his breed standard. Despite being the most represented breed in AKC registrations, his kind has never won there, and it's a safe bet never will. Why? Because the judging is so subjective.

The telecasters get annoying sometimes, but so far I love the Greyhound and Irish Elk hound. I am sure I will love about 20 of them before the nights over. :D

Well that was a bit disappointing.. A Corgi wins the herding group.. That's just jacked up. Blech.

We were rooting for the Boarder Collie and the German Shepherd.

So far I am going to root for the Min Pin as my favorite.

Min Pin's "job" is to kill rats. They do it by quickly shaking them back and forth ( while in the Min Pin's mouth.)
