Can't Sell Out Playoffs?

It is surprising, but these reasons sort of sum up the issues..The first is weak, but the last three are legit:
■ The forecast for Sunday’s game calls for a high in single digits and a below-zero wind chill. It’s understandable that instead of shelling out between $102 and $125 for a ticket to the deep freeze, a fan would rather watch the game from the comfort of a warm living room sofa on a high-definition, big-screen TV. ■ The Packers sent out playoff notices to season ticket holders during the worst part of their season when Rodgers’ return was uncertain and they were getting crushed by the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving. It’s likely many threw away their order forms thinking the Packers had no hope of earning a playoff berth. ■ The Packers overestimated the loyalty of their fan base by imposing a new no-refund playoff ticket policy in which unused money would be applied to next season’s tickets. The team also initially limited ticket sales this week to four per customer but quickly removed that restriction when it realized how slow tickets were selling. ■ The Packers added 7,000 seats to Lambeau Field this season, increasing the capacity to 80,750 and making it more difficult to sell out a game that isn’t part of the season-ticket package. It raises concerns that the Packers might have trouble filling their stadium, the third-largest in the NFL, if the team ever goes into an extended losing drought like it did in the 1970s and 1980s. |
Right, but this is 3 of the 4 games. I could see 1 of them for whatever reason. But 3? I don't know what to make of it.

Not quite on the same level as Lambeau, but the News had a little bit about TO saying he would by tickets for the Bengals game to get the blackout lifted there

I read that home teams can buy all remaining tickets at 33% of face value..That is the right thng to do

I'm sure it gets done but it is telling.

Don't be so sure, most of what is left are triple digit seats and they can't discount. Only thing that may save the Colts is if the NBC affiliate buys the last of them to lift the blackout.

Moving the game from Saturday (temps in the high teens) to Sunday (temp expected to be zero w/o wind chill) was brilliant.
The weather has everything to do with this. There are season tickets being offered for free all over town and even the ice fishermen don't want them.:wf |

Indy always considered "small market" is probably why.

Bingo, Bob. The combination of the loss to Detroit and the payment policy are to blame. Packer fans aren't put off by the cold!
|
Meijer has bought the remainder of the Colts/KC tickets and will give them away to military families. Very nice gesture on their part! No word yet on how many or how much it cost them.

regarding GB, there is no way i'd sit in that weather to begin with, let alone pay for the privilege!

Lambeau is sold out. I think we should have been talking about the 40,000 tickets that were sold after they got destroyed by Detroit instead of worrying about the 40,000 tickets that needed to be sold the week after Christmas in brutually cold temps. Having seen 3 of the 10 coldest games in NFL history personally it really isn't that bad if you dress appropriately, however who can fault anyone that doesn't want to pay $125/ticket plus parking, beverages, travel, time, etc to sit in below zero seats when you can have a fire sit at home and watch on a beautiful HD TV. Time to start talking about the game and less about the tickets. GO PACK GO!

This year was weird for tickets as well. I have been on the waiting list for 20+ years and this year I got notice for almost every home game of an opportunity to buy tickets(unused visting team tickets), which I did take advantage of a few (sold out in 15-20 minutes though each time). Happy New year to you and your family as well. Hoping for as much joy and hapiness on Sunday as the 4th and great of last week! |
