Japan racing, 2013-14
PPs for the Sprinters Stakes (the first G1 of the season)... Nakayama on Sunday (well Saturday night here)...
Too bad there are no kids from HK this time around. http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/pdf/130919.pdf Lord Kanaloa, who won it last year, looks like a pretty strong favorite but on first glance I'm intrigued by Sakura Gospel. Aaah well there's plenty of time yet. Can't wait! |
Barrier draw...
http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/130927.html Even with the 13 hole I like my Sakura horse more and more. Am thinking of something like... Sakura Gospel / Lord Kanaloa / Hakusan Moon, Dream Valentino and Forever Mark who is kinda a question mark for me but since I'm not sure how good she is am inclined to include her. For the super I'm thinking of tossing in Grand Prix Boss and Sugino Endeavour. Funny cause I cannot bring myself to be sentimental and use Silk Fortune, San Carlo OR Pas de Trois, all of whom I like so very much. I'd imagine Yutaka Take's mount, Sudden Storm, will take a lot of money over here but I won't include that one either. Anyone else playing this? |
Lord Kanaloa (A really beautiful win).
Hakusan Moon Mayano Ryujin My horse was 11th. :D :wf Replay... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_jyx5tenp8Y |

Sunday Star if you're around was wondering if you had any opinion on Ribbon Tricolour (?). She's the big question mark for me tonight...
Thanks! (Smart Lawyer is so pretty :D ). |
Quick stab / the Kikuka Sho tonight...
Epiphaneia has done everything right and is a really good horse but will try to beat him and use him in the 2nd spot with Majesty Hearts and Fluky on top. Majesty Hearts looks really good and like many used the Kobe Shimbun Hai as his prep. Wish Mori were onboard instead of Take. I don't know what to think of the route Fluky has taken to get here but he is intriguing. Satono Noblesse and Derby Fizz in the 3rd spot, Last Impact and Yule Singing to fill out the super. Good luck if you're playing. :) |
Results -
Epiphaneia (very nice) Satono Noblesse Bande Last Impact |
Epiphaneia finally got his big win. Happy for him and his connections :)
not enough pace for Majestys Heart |

Looking at the very nice field for the Tenno Sho and trying to find a price...
Might be dumb to with a field that includes Codino, Nakayama Knight, Gentildonna and Eishin Flash but here goes... Verde Green and Tokei Halo both strike me as maybes so am thinking of using both with Gentildonna and tossing Just a Way (likes being 2nd), Rain Stick, Danon Ballade and Hit the Target underneath in some yet-to-be-determined order. Connections of To the Glory, Tosan Jordan (holds the course record believe it or not) and Ocean Blue aren't exactly overflowing with confidence, Red Spada hasn't run at the distance and God help me I don't see Eishin Flash repeating. Too bad Tosan Ra isn't here... I guess his connections made their decision (but I thought it would be to the opposite one). |
Nice win by Juat a Way!
|
Just A Way, definitely not 2nd ;). what a blow out win!
|
yes!!

I want to try to beat the favorites (which might be really dumb cause those two are both so good). At this point I'm looking at Admire Rakti, the 3yo filly, Denim and Ruby and the beautiful (and potential crazy lonhgshot even though she really shouldn't be) Verxina. Tosen Jordan and Eishin Flash don't do it for me here, neither does Nakayama Knight (love him though). I like Hit the Target but am bummed to see Take up instead of Kitamura. Will pass. Some seriously nice foreign raiders this time around and I'm a big fan but cannot see any of them winning. Will probably go with Admire Rakti and use the other two with the 2 favorites underneath. Still pondering... can't wait though. |

Changed my thinking and am going with Denim and Ruby on top and will include Verxina in the top spot in my tri. Admire Rakti pushed down to the 2nd spot with the favorites.
Good luck all. |
I have Nightblooming in this next race (at ridiculous odds)...
That aside am only playing the Cup. Hope whoever is playing is doing well (Cardus... ed.... Laura... Moodwalker... Sunday Star.... anyone! :D). |

From looks in the paddock, I like the #1 in the 8th.
Amazing how many people go to the races over there.. Wow! By the way, did you see the size of the #12 in the 7th? He looked huge! |
Oh! and I will not be up to see the Cup.. It's past my fort time now :)
Good luck with your wagers girl! |

Replay... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HhDeZaXZKaY Any thoughts on the Japan Cup Dirt? Too bad it's the final running of it. PPs... http://japanracing.jp/_news2013/pdf/131120.pdf On our flag bearer... Training Report of Foreign Entries Japan Autumn International The 14th Japan Cup Dirt (G1) November 24, 2013 (Sunday) <At Hanshin Racecourse> Weather: Fine Going: Standard (dirt course) Pants on Fire (USA, H5, dark bay or brown) - jogged 700m, cantered 200m, galloped 1,000m, cantered 400m, jogged 400m (dirt course) (exercised from 7:25 to 7:32, ridden by Benjamin Winnett) "This morning he did a gallop from 1,000 meters out and stronger in the last 200. The horse is in very good condition and I'm happy with the time he clocked. It's a right-handed course but he ran smoothly along the rails and the track is no problem for him so far. He's come out of his training very well, and as usual, we hand-walked him for about 10 minutes afterwards to cool him down. I have to check with our trainer about his training from tomorrow on, but we will probably give him a break and just hand-walk him tomorrow. The jockey won't be riding the horse until the race, but he is a reliable expert and is in contact with our trainer all the time. The course and facilities here at Hanshin are excellent and we truly appreciate the hospitality shown to us by everyone here." (comments taken from James Homewood) |
nice pick with denim and ruby. soooooooooo close.

Belshazzar wins...
Replay, notes, etc: http://web-cache.stream.ne.jp/web/jr...305090211&ua=4 Rearing in the gate before the start, American raider Pants On Fire partnered with Gary Stevens traveled second from last instead of his usual position towards the front. The son of Jump Start (USA, by A.P. Indy) was already losing ground rounding the last corners and showed no effort in the stretch to finish last. Kelly Breen: “He did everything right going into the race. He had a great workout. He was relaxed and I think he took to the whole trip very good. The (length of) time on the track, the time being saddled, the whole procedure for racing compared to America… he just handled it like a professional. It just wasn’t our day.” Gary Stevens: “He reared in the gate to start and ended up nosebleeding, so I couldn’t push him any further. There’s nothing to say but that we were unlucky.” |
