Texas Bull$hit

just got this message from the on-line assistance at Twinspires..

As a result of an adverse court ruling in Texas, TwinSpires.com is suspending wagering activity from Texas residents effective immediately. The United States District Court for the Western District of Texas upheld a Texas law requiring residents of Texas who desire to wager on horseraces to wager in person at a Texas racetrack. This ruling does not impact TwinSpires.com customers in other states. Your account balance as of the end of the day Tuesday, September 24 will be mailed to you via check, after any point balances are added to your account.

Thanks alot Texas Pols...you bunch of freakin' a holes

casp0555 09-25-2013 05:16 PM

this is from the e-mail from Twinspires that I just found...

Dear William,

We regret to inform you that, as a result of an adverse court ruling in Texas, TwinSpires.com is suspending wagering activity from Texas residents effective immediately. The United States District Court for the Western District of Texas upheld a Texas law requiring residents of Texas who desire to wager on horseraces to wager in person at a Texas racetrack. The court's ruling was in response to a lawsuit TwinSpires.com filed in September 2012.

While the accounts of Texas residents will remain open, wagering activity will be disabled and TwinSpires.com will be mailing customers a check for any remaining account balance in the next 48 hours. You will still be able to access racing information, live race video, race replays, and Brisnet handicapping information.

We have filed an appeal and are optimistic that our legal arguments will prevail and residents of Texas, like residents in other states, will be allowed to wager on TwinSpires.com. In the meantime, however, we must respect the court's decision. We apologize for the inconvenience as we truly appreciate serving your account wagering needs.

Not holding my breath :(

that just sucks!!

bad enough i have to go buy a moneypak or some such thing to load my TS account, but to have it shut altogether....
ah, texas.
this is what happens when the tracks try to force attendance. and as big as that state is, i can't imagine having to drive hours just to place a wager. this will backfire, no doubt.

jms62 09-25-2013 05:53 PM

If I had to physically visit a track to make a bet my yearly handle would drop by around 95%,

Arletta 09-25-2013 06:27 PM

Try BetAmerica.. Just say you live in another state. It is working for me so far.

That would be my option although it could get complicated. I moved from Maryland to New Mexico 5 years ago and Twinspires closed my account when they somehow discovered my financial institutions listed my address in NM.

BetAmerica may not be as thorough. It would help having a relative in a wagering state that would let casp use their address to open a bank account just as a failsafe.

Danzig 09-25-2013 08:15 PM

that's why i have to use a greendot moneypak, the credit union blocks any transactions on my debit card to twin spires.
if you get a card like that, there's no bank to give out info either. if anything, get a po box out of state.

Will they not take a personal check? I don't have a TS account. I went with xpressbet. I just opened an account with them and sent them a check to fund it. I didn't like the sound of that greendot thing.

What happens, if you hit a signer( and I know you will ma'am):D? Won't they need accurate information on your address for tax purposes? Maybe not, I guess, if they've got your SSN, then that's all they need.

helicopter11 09-25-2013 09:29 PM

I have both TS and BetAmerica account in Texas. I called Bet America and as per the conversation, they still accept wagers from Texas residents. Probably wont last long though.

I live 40 miles to Sam Houston Race Park and there is no way I am going to do that drive regularly to make bets.

The chances of that happening are mighty slim. I hardly bet anymore at all and when i do, it's very small amounts. I haven't had a signer in over 10 ys and doubt I would be so lucky in the next 10 :D

not sure.
it's no biggie tho, when i'm out i get a card and load the account. i'd hate to send a check and the credit union not pay! haven't had an issue with greendot.
now, if TS would take paypal, life would be a bit better.

santana 09-26-2013 12:09 PM

opened an account with Bovada....i am pretty sure they are legit and no SS card required....the horse bets seem a little hard to navigate, but i am sure i can get used to it.

I would really like to know how many in the TEXAS govt are on the take? Just look around,Louisiana, OK, NM all can bet whatever they want...Here in TX the biggest state with the most people get the shaft...it applies to the casino wagering also....better than 70% of the cars at Delta are from TX...

Smells fishy to me, and a lot more people.

Yep, and I am sure there has been some Texans pockets silver lined somewhere in the deal.

some of the busiest casinos are those that neighbor arkansas. but, you know, we don't want that stuff 'round here.

i figure that the tracks and casinos in texas think this will generate more people on site.
i figure it'll generate less handle, and more people finding ways to keep betting on line.

and i can't think of a better group of people to go to jail with, then with fellow derby trail'ers.

casp0555 09-27-2013 11:39 AM

If anything good comes out of this , it will be me getting out to the track more often. I live about 20-25 miles from Sam Houston and it is a nice facility.
What pisses me off is that when I want to place a wager on a PID or Santa Anita card during the week, it ain't gonna happen.
I will be at SH on Saturday for the Belmont card for sure.....

NO OTB IN TEXAS......

helicopter11 09-27-2013 11:18 PM

They cite regulating intersatate commerce as the reason for the restriction.
How does Mega Millions and Powerball get a free pass in Texas?

Good question......as I drive west on I-10 and see the traffic heading to La for the weekend sino trips :zz:

herkhorse 09-28-2013 08:18 AM

Arizona OTB's are the worst in the country.

casp0555 09-28-2013 08:28 AM

I just signed up with Betamerica....use legit info but no bank info. One poblem I see is no Belmont listed on the track list :(. Still going to Sam Houston today and maybe I'll play Cali and CD later this evening. We'll see how long this lasts.

because they cater to dog tracks and limit the horse tracks and races you can wager on

herkhorse 09-28-2013 12:10 PM

That's good to hear, last time I went to an AZ. OTB they only let me play certain races from NY, and not the full card.

I spend a month in Tucson every year. Those smokey Famous Sam's are not for me, I just bet through my ADW.

I just spoke with BetAmerica and they will stop all accounts from Texas starting midnight tonight.

gamblin4ever 09-28-2013 04:49 PM

This ruling is just another reason for me to quit wagering on Horses b/c I'm not driving 2 hrs to Lone Star Park.

I have said the inability for horse racing to not be able to collectively get intrastate horse racing available to ALL who want to bet over the computer is the biggest reason why racing has not met its potential.

The same thing Texas players are going through we are went through in Az a few years ago.

:tro:

racing has got to quit treating other tracks as competitors. they need to join together and seek what they need as a SPORT. look at the nfl, etc. we can't be as large as them, but we can copy their successes.

Tell me about it. So now me being a weekend player have now been reduced to going to the track maybe 2-3 times a year. I am sure this is the case for most texas players. How is this progress?
Does SHRP and Lone Star have a huge inventory of Cold hot dogs and Hot beers at 18 bucks a pop that they need to sell to make a profit?

Couldn't agree more and if you know whom to contact to complain, let me know. Not that it will make a difference, but will make me feel better in a way.

I will start first by finding out who was the judge that made the ruling and send him a christmas card.

santana 09-29-2013 05:13 PM

There are a few websites that we can bet thru....as i mentioned earlier...Kind of strange they make me bet a minimum of .90 cents when playing pik 3 or pik 4......atleast i still can play.
