Sell Oprah The Bag

These racist Euros...first they go to the track without a pony and then they deny the richest woman in America a chance to splurge on worthless ****.

It can take a couple of hours for the alligators to die.

They're held down while someone bashes in their head(s) and then they're left, suffering. Some of them don't die fast enough and are skinned alive and others just kind of bleed to death.

Snakes are sometimes nailed to trees and then skinned. Alive.

Rather than go into what I think of Oprah I thought I'd just mention this.

**** her and **** anyone who buys such things.

Oh I think she is as self absorbed as it gets. I don't understand the handbag fascination in general. Strange

Yeah she is really something.

This was my favorite comment...

Why does she presume it's racism. She might just have looked cheap, fat and ugly. :D

yeah, poor oprah. poor, poor oprah.

i cannot imagine spending that kind of money on a purse. a purse! but then, i don't get people crazy about coach purses. i bought a purse on sale. paid 10 dollars. holds my stuff as well as something that costs hundreds, or thousands.

racism is still very much an issue..

but i feel a lot more empathy for people getting stopped and frisked because of what they look like, sentenced differently because of their race.
but oprah trying to say she experienced it, because she wasn't able to look at a very expensive purse....yeah, i'm trying. i do recall a woman in the u.k. who put up a sign at her restaurant, warning people the place was owned by a black woman. she'd had many patrons walk in, only to see her, say they were in the wrong place and leave.

Not saying it's what took place here, but one can get into trouble telling a Black Person that something is overpriced...Just don't do it.

Read the whole article before getting worked up about her purchasing choices. She didn't ask to buy the bag; she asked to look at it. And at the bottom of the article was this:

Quote:

Even if Oprah Winfrey had been allowed to look at the handbag, she may have thought twice before buying it.
The £24,460 bag was reportedly a crocodile-skin version of one of Jennifer Aniston’s favourite designs.
But as Miss Winfrey is a strident opponent of animal fur clothing and was named 2008 Person of The Year by animal rights group PETA, she may have felt crocodile skin was a step too far.
The TV host has occasionally worn leather belts and scarves, but crocodile skin is seen by some campaigners as being particularly cruel, given the poor treatment exotic species are often subjected to by farmers.
A spokesman for Tom Ford could not be contacted to confirm if the handbag was made of real or imitation crocodile skin.
I'm no fan of Oprah Winfrey because of her giving a platform to Jenny McCarthy and her child-killing anti-vaccination b*llsh*t, likewise her touting of Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz, both of whom are also full of crap, but in this case, I think it's a reach to accuse her of animal cruelty since all she wanted was for a salesperson to get a purse out of a display case so she could take a closer look.

Right, because making assumptions about someone's finances based on the color of the person's skin is... what's the word... it rhymes with basest....

it's best not to assume anything about anyone...looks, dress, etc. i've gone out in less than my best, salespeople don't know what i can/can't afford.
and i've got some people who come in my office who look like poor dirt farmers. they're anything but.

So true. I was at Aqueduct early this year with friends (the ones who rescued three of the Paragallo horses) and they pointed out two people in the paddock to me- to look at them, they were dressed not too far off of what I've seen some homeless people on the streets wearing, but my friend said in fact they were billionaires. They definitely weren't spending it on their wardrobe.

Strange but I got back from San Diego last week and out there the homeless people looked homeless and the rich, well looked rich.

Highly noticeable was both the homeless and the rich were in far superior physical shape compared to their peers back home in the Midwest.

randallscott35 08-13-2013 10:42 AM

Even the homeless gotta look good in Cali

My husband commented that the first thing he noticed when he moved from Dallas to NYC was how much thinner people were in NYC. And I have a friend in Florida who asked me if people in NYC dress better than people in the rest of the country. I said, not exactly, but NYCers do plan what they wear, as opposed to the tourists here, who are identifiable because they clearly just picked the most comfortable things they own, put them on and called it an outfit. So, while a New Yorker can look just as bad as any tourist, a person can tell that it's a bad that they thought about ahead of time.

Which is why the obese in this country should subsidize health care for the rest of us, not the other way around.

Danzig 08-13-2013 02:56 PM

someone made a comment yesterday about why so many here are obese. i said 'yeah, cause everything is fried with gravy on it'.

we've walked into, and then right back out of restaurants around here many times. i will not eat where everything is breaded and fried. cooking is a regional thing, just like many other things... and i guess folks down here don't know that frying food adds 40% more calories to the food they're ruining....

oh, and biscuits served with EVERYTHING.

jms62 08-13-2013 02:59 PM

I think there is a lot of Stress eating going on in this country right now.

Hence the stress. A vicious cycle

I'm still positive that I'm the only person who has ever starved in New Orleans.

Back on topic for 10 seconds. The clerk at the store pretty much denies Oprah's story and says she told oprah the bag she was currently looking at was the exact same material as the one she asked about. English is also not her first language and said Oprah seemed to understand what she meant....in response Oprah has basically apologized for blowing this out of proportion. What a shock. A complete attention whore trying desperately to pump her OWN agenda.

TheRoot.com had an interesting piece on this-

I'm sure this is all just another misunderstanding, too:

This does not seem like a misunderstanding, and is a sad statement on these police officers....Quite a reach to compare to Oprah and the handbag.

Danzig 08-15-2013 04:26 PM

groan

i think the police need to go thru yearly training. they also need to understand every person and every gesture isn't a threat.

found it eye opening to see that altho the races all equally commit crime, or use drugs, that people of color are stopped more often and arrested more often than white people. most people on death row are there for killing a white person, whereas people who murder someone of color are almost never given that penalty.

the police mostly deal with bad people, which probably makes them eventually treat everyone as 'bad'. it's bound to affect their outlook on people. HOWEVER, that's why i suggest yearly training. they need to be re-trained to keep them from becoming paranoid. they also need to understand that quite often people view them as the bad guy because of stories like this one, and garbage like stop and frisk.

Wish that were true with Chicago's murder problem but it's not.

From City homicide stats for 2011

1) 75% of all murder victims were African American

2) 70% of murder offenders were African American (20% were Hispanic)

BTW 77% of victims had a prior record and 87% of offenders had a prior.

https://portal.chicagopolice.org/por...ports/MA11.pdf

When you consider the racial makeup of the city (32% being African American) the fact that nearly all offenders are male (half of 32% or 16%) and that 90% plus of offenders are aged 16-30 (which represents roughly 20% of the population) 20% of 16% leaves you with 3.2% of the general public representing almost 70% of murderers.

At least in Chicago (not sure of the rest of the country) if you're a African American male between 16-30 you may be stopped because of statistics rather than any notion of racism. After all you're also the most likely to become a victim only because you're African American and statistically are a target for other African Americans.

But first let's get that apology and $35K purse Oprah is owed. ;)
