I cant recall Successful Dans form but looks like a 2 horse race to me between cross traffic and fort larned.

Mucho Macho Man and Ron the Greek are no slouches...

They can both be wildly inconsistent.

cakes44 07-30-2013 06:36 PM

Absolutely, but either of them could win this thing too. Heck, I wouldn't even count Fast Falcon out of it.

I dont like Macho at all. I think he is finished. Greeks best race can win, especially if this thing falls apart late and it could if the 2 chalks have 2 hook up.
Falcon is dangerous. Zito is always dangerous in these spots. But now the 2 chalks will run 1-2 around the track.

I'm a huge Cross Traffic fan, but he may be too fast early to beat this quality of field going two turns.

Hard not to be a fan of him. He just keeps throwing bang up races. Fort Learned figures to be all over him right from the start. Should be fun.

my miss storm cat 08-01-2013 12:14 AM

Wow that is a nice field!

JJP 08-01-2013 01:49 PM

A good rule of thumb for Fort Larned: bet him if he's not favored, but go against him when he is favored. Money burner last 3 times he's been favored, including twice at odds on. But when he's overlooked, he's dangerous. Seen that he's 7-5 on the morning line, it looks like time to go against him.

I think Cross Traffic can go off the post time favorite.

JJP 08-01-2013 02:23 PM

Cross Traffic can definitely win the race, but I'd be surprised if he went off at lower odds than Fort Larned. Although he's been very impressive, he hasn't run beyond a mile while FL not only won last year's Whitney, he won last year's BC Classic and is coming off a 116 Beyer.

Steve, any reason why Fast Bullet is not in the Vanderbilt? I see that he is working every week at Del Mar. Would have been quite a race with him included...

Amazingly, he has worked 6 times since his last start and still is not ready.

Gentleman's Bet is entered in a stake at Mountaineer on Saturday, so the Vanderbilt could be down to 4 runners.

No. He's running here.

largo1 08-02-2013 02:50 PM

I'll be cheering Caixa on from Mountaineer!!

Sightseek 08-03-2013 12:08 PM

Someone should pick up Googleado as a rabbit.

Sightseek 08-03-2013 01:07 PM

His horse came up short, but Rocco is doing a great job this meet of giving his horse a great trip up the rail.

cakes44 08-03-2013 03:30 PM

A 10-year-old winning at 'Toga today. How cool is that?

cakes44 08-03-2013 04:40 PM

Successful Dan and Alpha taking quite a bit of $$. Someone must know something I don't...I tossed 'em both from the trifecta. Anytime a Kiaran horse gets bet down, it makes me think twice.

Successful Dan reared and fell on his back going out on the track...

It make me gasp watching it. He pretty much just pitched his jockey and crashed. You know the fear is always that they hit their head. That had to do something to him, and the fact that he did as well as he did after that was impressive. Wonder what caused the spook.

Sightseek 08-04-2013 07:32 AM

Of recent times, Invasor and Sun King battling to the wire is still my favorite Whitney Stakes:

Was bet all the way down to 7/2 before that, then back up to about 6/1 I assume after the flipout.
