2/5 on a Josie Carroll 2nd time starter stretching out to 2 turns in the 2nd @ WO.

Hard to imagine a trainer more inept than Carroll. Melnyk has given her a few and she's pretty much disappointed woefully so far with all of them.

edit: didn't matter, gate scratch.

Carroll wins her 2nd in a row and I'm left wondering how the 6 finishes ahead of the 2. How the 2 can run that bad. It'll be interesting trying to recover from this start today.

Yeah. Whatever else might be the case, we can always count on a Lezcano collapse in the stretch - and the equally obligatory wrong lead.

I don't understand. What was he supposed to do differently?

he just can't finish and he can't consistently get his horses to change leads. i just don't get why so many think he's so good

It could be that he's won at 18% with a $1.95 ROI in 1,099 rides the last 12 months, the ROI easily best of the New York regulars. He's consistently among the leading money earners at all the premier meets. The guy is a terrific rider by any measure.

The horse saved ground on a slow pace and had absolutely no answer for the much-the-best winner. Jesus with a 7-pound bug couldn't have made that horse run any better than she did.

Chermetz gets blocked inside pretty much the length of the stretch and just gets up for 2nd. Probably doesn't win, however, with a clear run. Refused to acknowledge all the money on the layoff 2 and it cost me.

You know what: stats will probably tell me that Contreras is a significantly better rider than Wilson or (last year) even Da Silva. But Emma is absolutely money in the lane and Da Silva is right behind her. And Contreras is always a defensive play for me. Lezcano looks real good styling with the best horse. But he can't be counted on when it means something. Just my opinion.

pointman 07-21-2013 02:16 PM

I should feel better but the 12 getting nipped still cost me a nice amount. I am all over the wire with nothing to show for it. :wf

Nice job, Jimmy!

That sure was an interesting ride by Lezcano on the 10. Nothing like a senseless middle move to flatten your horse out in the stretch. :wf

Woodbine Race 7.

This is probably not the best distance for Riding the River. And while I really like Valentino Beauty, I think the race shape favored him last time out. Hotep probably got the worst of it last out and should benefit from the extra distance. Though I don't like that Wilson is getting off for the 4. And Pender Harbour might get a nice stalking trip.
