Invasor sick, out of the JCGC

A shame.

Just kidding.

That's wild.. Gonna make next Saturday slightly less enjoyable, and so much for me getting a decent price on Bernardini.

Wouldn't be shocked Ateam.

Betsy 09-30-2006 04:02 PM

Wow, I'm so unhappy about this. Poor Invasor - what lousy timing. I hope he'll be ok. A high fever can take a lot out of a horse; even if they choose to supplement, will he be at his best?

DaHoss, I agree with you - this sucks. I thought Bernardini was going to win anyway, but Invasor is such a good horse. Unbelievable.......

randallscott35 09-30-2006 04:04 PM

Watch Sun King end up in this race now. Telling you Zito is making a mistake by training up. No excuse not to throw him in there now.

Flaxen Mane 09-30-2006 05:13 PM

Well, according to the Bloodhorse he is just very doubtful, not COMPLETELY out.... Sounds like someone is scared of Bernardini.....

I wonder why it would cost $750,000 to supplement him. I thought with the new rule that it was just a one-time fee of $150,000.

pmayjr 09-30-2006 05:36 PM

ESPN's coverage was making it out that he was questionable, but not out for sure of the JCGC. But Invasor is not supplimented?

hmmm

I believe that there was a deadline to take advantage of that and that it's passed.

I'm not surprised at all to see Invasor not running here. I didn't think they wanted to be there anyway. I'd be more surprised actually to see him in the Classic than if he misses it. Here's how I see it playing out.

Bernardini-goes in the Classic ONLY with a win in the JCGC.
Discreet Cat-goes in the Classic ONLY with a win tomorrow AND a Bernardini loss in the JCGC.
Invasor-goes in the Classic ONLY if Discreet Cat AND Bernardini both lose.

eurobounce 09-30-2006 07:09 PM

I am sure we will not get more horses in the JCGC. Several Trainers mentioned that they would run in the JCGC if one of the to big ones scratched.

I think that's way off. Bernardini goes in the Classic as long as he doesn't hurt himself in the JCGC. There's no way Discreet Cat is going in the Classic, and Invasor will only go if Bernardini doesn't totally romp next week.

todko 09-30-2006 08:15 PM

The sure as heck don't want Invasor actually beating Bernardini either. Why risk it? If they ran and Invasor won, then Bernardini's HOTY would be out the window. That's why you'll never see DC run against Bernardini either -- DC would leave him in the dust and they know that.

As good as they are as horsemen, they are even better at business. A JCGC win, followed by a BC win, and HOTY, and Bernardini's stud fee would be astronomical.

It would be stupid to let one of their other horses ruin all that. Looks like they can almost manipulate the market at this point doesn't it?

They didn't get all that money by being nice guys.

I'm glad you know what the Sheikh's think about DC and Bernardini...... It's interesting how it works - that the Sheikh believes DC would slaughter Bernardini and not the other way around? Funny, I've never heard him say such a thing. It's just as possible that they think Bernardini would stomp over DC; in any case, regardless of what the Sheikh thinks of his colts' abilities, he'd want to avoid having them run against each other for the simple reason that each could clean up wherever they went. Why aim for the same prizes?

I don't believe Invasor is ducking Bernardini, but if you read the quotes in the DRF article, it's pretty clear that Tom was very confident in his colt facing Invasor (saying that the older horse would have given his own colt a tough battle, implying that Bernardini would win). Horses are avoiding Bernardini (read the DRF article from a couple of days ago) and Kieran is giving that colt the utmost respect - he knew how good he was before the Preakness. Therefore, it seems to me that if anyone would resort to ducking, it would be Invasor's connections.

Danzig 10-01-2006 06:00 AM

well...if anyone thinks invasor is indeed NOT running a fever, and is healthy as a --well, you know, and that they aren't running invasor so as to keep bernardini from losing--than i guess you could connect all that together and say that those who feel bernardini is the surest thing this year would be wrong. right?

actually, i think invasor is running a temp, as stated, and may or may not run, as stated. it's horse racing, it's not freaking national security.

Gander 10-01-2006 09:01 AM

Why would Mcglaughlin say he was running all this time and suddenly come up with what some people think is a phony excuse? If he was yellow why wouldnt he have just said 3 weeks ago no way am I going against Bernardini?
Even if he was yellow he could still pick up a nice 2nd place check in a grade 1. I think its legit.

FairPlay 10-01-2006 10:00 AM

Why keep Invasor away from Bernardini? Stud fees, duh. Bernardini kicks his @ss and Invasor's fee is diminished viz. Bernardini. Retire Invasor now and he's something like 8 for 9 lifetime with 3 Grade 1's in 3 tries. Sounds better than 8 for 11 lifetime with 3 Grade 1's in 5 tries.

Your point is well taken. I think, however, that they are keeping Invasor in the barn to keep HIM from losing, not Bernardini.

A second place check to these people would be about as important as me finding a penny on the sidewalk. If u have read the comments from the trainer all summer, he's let it clearly be known that he was not looking forward to facing Bernardini. This fear is far from sudden.

oracle80 10-01-2006 06:53 PM

Man I find this pretty disappointing.
Musta been one hell of a fever, because missing two days training with a fit horse 9-10 days before a race isn't usually a very big deal. Call me skeptical.

Danzig 10-01-2006 07:05 PM

they want him at his best, if he's not i wouldn't run him either. timing is everything.

tycharles01 10-01-2006 09:42 PM

Says on the NYRA that if Invasor is out, then this might be a 9 or 10 horse field, some interested now are

Awesome Twist
AP Arrow
West Virginia
SUN KING!!
Andromeda's Hero
Master Command

along with already confirmed

Bernardini
Dylan Thomas
Spanish Chestnut

You can probably scratch A.P. Arrow, considering he ran yesterday, but the rest seem logical.

blackthroatedwind 10-01-2006 10:16 PM

Sun King could go but it is VERY up in the air.

kentuckyrosesinmay 10-01-2006 10:17 PM

andromeda's hero?! you can't be serious....i might put him in the fourth spot for the super....but the win? no way.

should be a lively pace with spanish chestnut. poor guy, should change his name to sacrificial lamb.

LOL...

I dreamed that a chestnut won this race. I would say the chances of Spanish "Chestnut" winning are slim to none, so I'd go with Andromeda's Hero too. :D

I like him as a horse not necessarily to beat Bernardini ( or even realistically ).

Though, for a horse that isn't faster than Point Given, not that he also wasn't pretty good, Bernardini seems to be getting a little too much credit. Perhaps the dearth of good horses has confused people.

Regardless, Bernardini will probably win his next two races.
