Good card overall. But, wow, that is one sad edition of the Pimlico Special.

Not a good group or not enough horses? Just asking

letswastemoney 05-12-2013 09:55 PM

I agree the Pimlico Special is bad this year. Some of those horses can't win a claiming race.

Then again, it's not a G1 anymore like in past years, so I should not expect a top notch field.

dylbert 05-12-2013 11:01 PM

Rosie versus Rosario. Should make for an interesting Friday afternoon.

True, this is not a Grade 1 any longer, But, for $300,000, I would think there might be a few decent horses out there who might want to compete.

I'm afraid without the pp's i don't even know who most of the horses are. I must be out of the loop. Definitely not the same Pimlico Special of yesteryear...

Sightseek 05-13-2013 06:49 AM

Not exactly the 1988 edition of the Pimlico Special (linked below), but at least they are trying to keep this race going.

Any idea if they will be offering 2 day DD or Pick 3?

Black Eyed Susan/Preakness

NTamm1215 05-13-2013 08:49 AM

It's Pimlico Special-Preakness.

I stand corrected. They switched last year right? Black Eye Susan / Preakness would be a nice bet given the fields.

dino 05-13-2013 11:28 AM

Thanks

Aly-Sheba 05-15-2013 09:00 PM

If Ben's Cat wins, I think King L. should start asking now for somebody to put up the money to supplement him to the BC !!

TouchOfGrey 05-16-2013 01:03 PM

Walkwithapurpose and Manuka Honey out of the Black-Eyed Susan.

Sightseek 05-16-2013 06:40 PM

Bummer about the two scratches, but this is such an excellent card!

letswastemoney 05-16-2013 06:55 PM

Does anyone have any insight into the Pimlico Special?

I wanted to play the Special / Preakness double, but the field is so bad for the Pimlico Special that it's hard to separate them unless I want to use an overbet Richard's Kid or Last Gunfighter.

I dont have much of an opinion on the race. Other than the 2 horses you mentioned both STINK. Bad field. Wait until Saturday. The late pick 4 is nice, even if you love ORB.

I actually think those are the only two horses that can win. I don't think Eighttofasttocatch wants to go this far and while I am shocked that I actually want to include Richard's Kid, there should be pace, he likes this track, and gets class relief. The other thing is Mr Premature on Last Gunfighter. He could get all smiley and take off early into the pace.

Pick 5

Is this pick 5 normal or is it a one winner only bet?

Today is 1 winner and there is a rumor on Twitter that is yet to be confirmed that tomorrow is a mandatory payout.

dino 05-17-2013 10:26 AM

Thanks

NTamm1215 05-17-2013 11:19 AM

There's been no indication by the MJC that tomorrow is a mandatory payout.

cakes44 05-17-2013 05:09 PM

Might be an awfully slow Preakness tomorrow if the track is playing the same as today. 1:57+ is entirely possible.
