Tablets and PP's?
 

I'm close to pulling the string on a tablet that I want to use at the track/OTB. I prefer Bris Ultimate PP's when handicapping. Can anyone provide feedback as to which one's would be best? I really liked the I-pad that I was looking at but am not sure I could highlight and markup on the PP's with it since no Flash. Would appreciate any feedback.

Brisnet pp's work fine on android and iPad. Formulator does not work well on either. The Tampa boys swear that the I-pad with the iAnnotate PDF app works the best and I have found it to be a good combination also.

IPad - tried to avoid buying this thing and used my wife's android tab but night and day difference.

Assuming that to be a rousing endorsement of the iPad. I'm looking at the newest with the Retina display. It seems to be awesome!

It is. I tried a number of annotation apps but landed on IAnnotate. Very intuitive and easy to use.

Fantastic. I really wanted the iPad but needed a push. Looks like I got it!

Good Reader works well to mark up pdfs on an ipad. Been using it for a few years now. I don't like bringing the ipad to the track though. That is the only time I'll print out the form.

I second iAnnotate PDF as being a great application. I use it my dayjob stuff, too. I hadn't thought to use it for PPs- thanks for mentioning it! Totally going to do that next time.

I have a nexus tablet. I can't use my bris account. It says download failed. I can only get PDF from capitalotb.com

I only use BRIS Ultimate PP's and have had my ASUS android tablet for 6 months. I have had no problem downloading and using the PP's. It even worked at Santa Anita on Breeders Cup day and the bonus was that SA even had free wi-fi on track. I didn't know that at the time but it was a nice bonus. My local OTB also has free wi-fi so I can just show up and get whatever I need.

I would only recommend IAnnotate for the Ipad. Android has a downgraded version of it for their tablets that doesnt have as many features (i.e. text box) as the app for the Ipad does. I use ezPDF Reader on my Galaxy Tab 2. It is the best one I have found for Android.

I've had decent success with Good Reader on my iPad. . . I use Formulator, and recently discovered that it works close to perfect on the Puffin browser app.

IPAD- A 600 dollar pdf reader....

I use an Ipad with GoodReader and iAnnotate...... And a Asus infinity pad with IAnnotate both are High def and have bright displays which allows you to use the outside.

From a track usage/portability perspective I'd highly recommend the iPad Mini. Much lighter to carry around and you only give up a little real estate.

Not to mention it won't lighten your wallet as much. Be sure to get the 4G version and not just WiFi.

I’ve noticed over the years that two of the most degenerate degenerates sitting in the finish line grandstand box at tbd utilize these electrical boxes not only for their programs but also for wagering, which allows them ample time to enjoy the races, talk about soccer, Bernie Rhone and Dean Butler, while minimizing trips out into the crazy world of non-grandstand box life.

None the less, if it’s the best tablet I’ll get one.

Like everyone else, I’m looking for a tablet that allows viewing most if not all PPs (drf, brisnet, timeform, etc.) and it would also be nice if I could write, preferably using a pen to take notes, in other words I don’t want to have to jot down my losers on a torn piece of paper from the skymall magazine. In addition, I would also like a tablet with good speed and response, as I need to feel fulfilled that I will get these losing pk4 tickets in at the speed of light.

I like Samsung, have a S6, but they’re not horse racing friendly. First and foremost, they have little to no horse racing apps, and as a user of twinspires I’m required to use google chrome to watch/wager on races. I know apple has the twinspires app, and I imagine many more which seem to be so much more convenient than having to flip back and forth on the internet.

Suggestions and opinions greatly appreciated!!!!

If you use formulator then you don't want an android or an Apple tablet. Neither of those tablets can handle Flash (please go to HTML5!!!!!). If that's the case then you want to windows 10 tablet. On e point, I forgot could use the tablet version of formulator.

If you download your PP's from formulator first on your computer as a PDF then you could use either a windows, android or Apple tablet. however, I would get one as you indicated that was designed for a pen input. although the I[pad pro has a pen input the drawback is it can't handle Flash application.

Also want to have a screen it's really bright and the best for that are you that the iPads or the surface tablets. That way it allows you to view the tablet in a bright room or even in sunlight as long as it's not directly onto it. Only ones here are the surface and Ipads, they are the brightest with best contrast.

For the best writing experience you're either going to want to windows 10 tablet w/pen imput like a surface pro or the cheaper surface 3 Lenovo Thinkpad 10 or HP Sepctre tablet or an Apple pro tablet (no flash for regular formulator but can use the tablet version).


I have used both of surface 3 and an Apple iPad. The surface 3 is much easier to write on since it has was designed for pen input while on the iPad you have to use an aftermarket Pen it was not designed specifically for Pen but there are some good aftermarket pens out there that work fairly well. The surface 3 also can use regular formulator.

So your choice comes down if you're just viewing and maybe going to simply market pdf up a little bit and view formulator tablet you can go with an cheaper apple ipad or android tablet. However as I indicated if you want to view formulator and also have a better writing experience I get a windows 10 tablet unless you want to spring for the iPad Pro and use formulator tablet.

So I would recommend the surface 3 or a surface Pro M3 or I5 that you could get a good price is it Christmas time now. tablet unfortunately they're not gonna make it anymore so you have to get it on Amazon or somewhere on the Internet.As far is Wi-Fi or LTE you can actually get by on Wi-Fi. I have an Apple iPhone with a good data plan that I make into a hotspot and pull my Wi- did Fi right off my tablet if there's not available at the track. I do this instead of having us pay extra for an LTE connection just for the tablet.
