T.O. Attempred Suicide Last Night

Just reported on ESPN - Mike and Mike

Holy Cow

2MinsToPost 09-27-2006 08:38 AM

He apparently ingested a large quanity of pain killers and they had to pump his stomach per the police report. When the officer asked him if he tried to harm himself he said yes.

I can't believe this.

Another case of better to wait for all the information....now they are saying an allergic reaction to pain meds. It certainly could be either, suicide attempt they may want to spin, allergic reactions, especially to such medication, do happen. TO has no documented history of drug use and suicide by meds doesn't fit his personality still...best to wait I think!

ESPN is all over the Suicide angle right now. I see your point.

2 Dollar Bill 09-27-2006 08:57 AM

Gee..is that like ESPN was all over the ""change "" in QB's with the cardinals..and then they say....Dennis Green didnt make the change.... The media loves to take any bit of info...and run with it..... Guess everyone is GUILTY.. before proven ?

2MinsToPost 09-27-2006 08:58 AM

Well, Mike G just had 2 reporters on from the Dallas Fort Worth area and they both confirmed the police report. Also, it is being reported that he ingested somewhere in the vicinity of 30 of these pills. Just relaying what they are saying is all.

Scav 09-27-2006 08:59 AM

If they are writing it, there has to be something MORE besides what they are telling you. Fact is that taking 5 of those pain medications won't kill you. I have had friends that have taken 5 vicodin in a night and drank 20 beers, and while the ended up feeling like crap, they were no where near dying.

It wouldn't surprise me if it were true though, I am guessing that with his type personality it is somewhat a common occurence, if you could have one in this situation

2MinsToPost 09-27-2006 09:04 AM

If ESPN is wrong I smell a SERIOUS lawsuit

Gander 09-27-2006 09:24 AM

To be honest its not really all that exciting of a story. They need to try harder.

Coach Pants 09-27-2006 09:57 AM

Publicity stunt. If he really wanted to commit suicide he wouldn't have took the pills right before his publicist was coming over.

It's unfortunate this ******* didn't succeed. He needs to come out of the closet or just kill himself. Nobody gives a **** if he's gay.

Danzig2 09-27-2006 09:59 AM

i know the other day parcells said the pain meds were making t.o. sick.. then the 'allergy' report which now is reported as an attempted suicide. it's a huge possibility that the meds themselves brought on the depression. many pain pills, valium for one, are known to have depression as a side effect. altho he's always been known as having a big ego, he's never been considered a 'troubled' athlete.

wow. great attitude. nothing like compassion for your fellow human! no one in their right mind attempts suicide. glad you feel sympathy for your fellow man. publicity stunt?? you're way off base...

and i'm no t.o. fan, no cowboy fan for sure!

oracle80 09-27-2006 10:01 AM

Yeah Zieg I agree.
I really can't believe he would try to commit suicide.
I'll have to see more info before I believe this.

Danzig2 09-27-2006 10:02 AM

i'm telling you....someone is suddenly on meds and then goes off the deep end. i don't think it's a reach at all to conclude this is a chemical problem!

I have little compassion for an attention whore who has let his team down repeatedly. How many chances should this guy get?

I stand by what I say. This was a publicity stunt. Everything with this guy is. He has the mental and emotional capacity of a child who wasn't loved enough by their parents.

people do not take their own life for publicity. yes, he has a huge ego and thinks he's gods gift. a huge ego does not make someone attempt to kill themself. i don't like the guy, his antics on and off the field are ridiculous. certainly not old school! BUT, what he's going thru now has nothing to do with any of that. as the team said, he has no MO that would show he would ever make this kind of crazy attempt.

suicidal people aren't thinking in a 'normal' way. after all, taking a human life, even one's own, is completely abhorrent to the vast majority of people. no one gets up and says, hey, i think i need some attention. i believe i'll try to kill myself.
in other words, your idea about this is completely incorrect. and coldhearted.

ezrabrooks 09-27-2006 10:19 AM

DFW radio is reporting 30 plus pills and a suicide attempt. Heck, they better put Jerry Jones on suicide watch also.

Ez

Oh that is complete and utter bull****. Lots of people 'attempt' suicide and fail for the simple fact that they want attention. It happens everyday and T.O's failed attempt is a classic case of attention whoring. This guy has people around him all of the time and if was really going to kill himself he would have tried a swifter method. Truth is he doesn't want to.

As a retired Dallas Firefighter paramedic, who spent my last 3 yrs as a dispatcher. When a call is received the disatcher catogorizes it as 1 of 7 situations and one of those is an overdose. An overdose includes just what it is an overdose but some other things it includes is a drug reaction[ which this probably is]. The designation of the type of call triggers some automatic procedures which sometimes include ,notification of the police. With my experience in dealing with similar situations, this is just an overreaction because its TO. Probably a bad reaction to the painkillers due to the lack of releif he got from them and taking more than perscribed. Trying to get relief. Media making a story when none is there.

The more that I hear about this the more I have to agree with what you said. Thanks for the info seeing how you are someone who would know.

jpops757 09-27-2006 11:29 AM

The Media has come up with a story and are now trying to prove it. When they should have taken the info and seeing what happened.

Agree 100%...I've worked in mental health all my life, this is sad, I don't give a damn who it is! If this was a suicide attempt, it is the product of severe depression and a deeply troubled mind in real pain! Anyone making light of such a thing has a hole in their soul!!

whorstman 09-27-2006 12:15 PM

I'm not going to pretend to know what happened. I will say that what I have read and seen over the years on TO and the way he grew up, that he had a self esteem problem. Most people that crave that type of attention usually do. I read an article not too long ago that cronicled his life growing up. He was very poor, not many friends. Was made fun of a lot. The kids said he was ugly and even the black kids in the nieghborhood called him "purple" b/c he was darker complected. he lived w/ his grandma who I don't even think had lights in the house, I can't remember what it said, something about it being dark all the time. Anyway, he's talking to a girl one day, and a guy across the street tells him to stay away from her. He asks why b/c he likes her, and the man said it was his half sister. His whole time growing up and his father, who he never knew, was living across the street. I can't imagine what kind of childhood he had, but that is what usually makes us what we are today, personality wise.

My point is that he is the type that has to be re-asured that he is important and he is needed on a daily basis. He needs to know people care about him and that he is a great player. He really should seek thearapy, because I imagine he has a lot of inner demons that he needs to deal with. When you keep all that stuff inside and mask it with "T.O." and not Terrell, you are just percieved as an arrogant, self-centered diva.

my nickle - 3 worth.

jpops757 09-27-2006 12:29 PM

The uninformed media keeps asking about the call for police. The simple answer is its part of the protocal when the DFD gets a call that is classified as an overdose. It is an automatic call and not a special request . Owens is always a story but the media is just making a bigger one. Dumb sports reporters that just dont understand the protocal of the Dallas Fire and Police.

Gander 09-27-2006 02:00 PM

What I dont get is why does anyone care? Who the heck is Terrell Owens to deserve to be a story and why should anyone care if he wants to harm himself?

My concern is not that it's TO doing this but that a fellow human being has possibly become so depressed as to attempt to end his/her life. So...while I agree somewhat Gander that we pay far too much attention to this guy generally, in this case...I see him as symbolic of tortured souls all over this country and the world. If it turns out that this was an allergic reaction then I'd agree that it got far too much coverage but if it was an actual suicide attempt, it becomes something for us all to ponder!

2MinsToPost 09-27-2006 03:09 PM

Hydrocodn is the pain killer he was prescribed. I have first hand experience with these pain killers. From first hand experience, if you take lets say 2 at one time - you will be VERY DROWSY in a short period of time. If you have ever taken them before keep in mind. NO WAY does a man, in my opinion, attempt to take his own life and then hold a press conference the afternoon after.

I don't believe his publicist. I do believe TO. His eyes are clear, he looked people IN THE EYE as he spoke.

timmgirvan 09-27-2006 04:01 PM

Curt: you're talking about Vicodin, right? Well, it never has affected my family that way, course I weigh a tad more than you. I guess I'm lucky...all those side effects people talk about....never had a one...and I take plenty of meds!

Vic's are the hot thing on college campus', that and Xanax. I have used both many times and if you are responsible with it, you feel cool, have a good time, and wake up the next day. It is impossible to relax as much as these meds make you relax in a normal state. This is more so true with Xanax then Vicodin

This was released 11 minutes ago, and I believe the guy.
I had some dental surgery done about 3 years ago. I had never taken pain killers, even one time, in my life.
They gave me a prescription, I think it was the stuff Terrell was taking.
I took one and about two hours later vomited severely, felt an overwhleming urge to drink some Coke with sugar in it(which I never drink) and then went to sleep and had horrible, vivid, pyschedelic type nightmares and dreams.
I woke up the next day and flushed the rest down the toilet.
Some people have bad reactions to pain medicine, obviously I am one of them also. Sounds to me like he had a bad reaction, lost his mind, and was disoriented. I believe the guy, and I'm no fan of his at all.

Gander 09-27-2006 04:31 PM

I agree too Mike. When I had my wisdom teeth out, I took some crazy pain killers and it made me very nautious and sick to my stomach. Didnt help that I hadnt ate in 24 hours due to surgery requirements. I felt like I was dying. I remember having to crawl to the toilet.

I crawled as well.

oracle80 09-27-2006 05:13 PM

I also wanna add that this was "journalism" at its worst.
Reporting this as a suicide attempt was in exetremely poor taste and judgement.
You are talking about a guy's reputation here, and I doubt that even his family was aware of what was going on, and probably heard about the "suicide" attempt on tv or the net.
I realize that his antics have made him fair game of sorts for people to report on, he craved attention, even negative attention and you reap what you sow.
But I really feel that this was over the line. Maybe its because I immediately remembered my reaction to the one time I ever took pain killers(obviously Gander had the same thing happen, sounds identical to my reaction). Trust me, had anyone come an checked on me as I was wretching and then observed me staggering down the street to buy a 64 ounce sugared coke and sucking the whole thing down through a straw in my living room and then witnessed me crawling to my bed, they woulda called 911 on me as well.
Nobody deserved what this guy got today without a full check of the facts. Just reprehensible actions by the press.

Ditto, Gander. They prescribed demoral to me and after taking two pills, I was literally sick. I felt like I was in a never ending tunnel. No thanks... I'll stick with the pain.

Codeine or Tylenol 3 as it used to be called makes some people very sick. My sister and I had our wisdom teeth pulled out at the same time and took the stuff. She was calling Ralph on the big white phone, I was calling people I had not talked to in years feeling like all was wonderful. I will stay away from that stuff. Made me way too happy. I have never done drugs and it was clearly one of the biggest highs I have ever felt. Euphoric chip munk is what I was. Giant swollen cheeks and damn happy to have em.

Terrell is a damn good actor if he really tried to commit suicide. Either that or a bipolar with a very calm collected up. I have not seen that kind.

oracle80 09-27-2006 05:51 PM

Wow, you guys made me feel much better.
I thought my reaction made me a weirdo. The day after my reaction, I called my friend Lansdon who had left me some messages that night wondering why I didn't answer my phone. I explained what happened and then said to him " You mean to tell me that people actually take that **** for FUN?!! They have to be insane!" I never heard him laugh so hard.
I'd have to have a limb hanging off before anyone could ever get me to ingest that **** again.
