Got a Hall of Fame vote?

Good to see one of the voters at least has a sense of humor.

Bonds was a no-brainer Hall of Famer before he ever took steroids. I grew up a Cubs fan when I followed baseball for a few years, I hated Bonds with the Pirates, but he was incredible and obviously not a juicer at that time.

I stopped following baseball all together by the time he started pumping himself up to look like Terrell Owens and having the greatest offensive seasons in history with the Giants.

The writers certainly made a statement. All time Home Run leader not enshrined in his first attempt missing by a wide margin.

They haven't had a single winning season since the very year he left.

It's baseball ... the value of one position player means little.

The most important player in baseball only appears once every five games when he's healthy. Once every four when the playoffs come around.

Bonds couldn't even win a ring when he was putting up insane seasons in San Fran.

How did Piazza not get in?

Calzone Lord 01-09-2013 06:24 PM

Probably a perception by some that he might have been involved with roids but never got caught ... combined with him being avg at best as a defensive catcher. Plus, they are tougher on guys the first few ballots.

Even though I watched very little baseball, he was a favorite player of mine when he was with the Mets.

I could be wrong, but I don't remember Piazza's name being linked with the Mitchell report. As far as I'm concerned they dropped the ball with Piazza, he deserved to get in on the first ballot.

Total bullsh*t. He's only the greatest offensive catcher in the history of the game.

I had heard he was wearing the wrong sized shoes in Pittsburgh

Plus he made the mullet look cool. Not an easy feat.

I think the writers sent a message and no offensive players from the so called steroid era got in (or will get in) on their first try.

Biggio and his 3,000 hits didn't get in either, and with Maddox and Glavine eligible next year it could be a long wait for some guys.
I bet Frank Thomas doesn't get in next year in his first year of eligibility either.

Bigsmc 01-10-2013 05:42 AM

114 of the ballots, some with explanations.

Travesty. Best offensive catcher ever and a fan favorite. He will get in next year.

jms62 01-10-2013 07:59 AM

I think the Home run records should be vacated and returned to Maris and Hammering Hank. Am I alone in this thinking?

2 reasons. Clemens whipping that bat at his head, and being a little light in the spikes. Next year.

Still no Luis Tiant ? what a farce

There were always rumors that Mr. Piazza was a "switch" hitter, so to speak.

Not that it should affect his baseball status.

Remember all those rumors about him being gay? I had the chance to meet him in Vegas through a mutual friend. I assure you those rumors were completely false. Either that or the incredible looking women he was with was an act. Incredibly nice guy, too.

NTamm1215 01-11-2013 08:31 AM

I'm biased, but I think Biggio's deservingness is greater than Piazza's.

Alabama Stakes 01-11-2013 09:27 AM

Neither.....which fans ? loser Met fans ? Lenny Dykstra was a favorite of those fans too. Pudge Rodriguez is a hall of fame catcher, Piazza is no Pudge, Rodriguez or Fisk.

yeah, i knew there were the occasional rumors. has nothing to do with baseball ability or hall of fame eligibility. just trying to give AS a hard time, because his comment was out of line.

Alabama Stakes 01-11-2013 11:37 AM

that's MR. AS to you

I am too Nick , not only the 3000 hits but an all star at 3 different positions...one of those behind the plate, isn't that correct??

Yes. I'm not sure he was an all star as a catcher, but he started at least 300 games at C, 2B and CF.
