This is my favorite line
"It was a tough decision to retire him because he could have come back and raced at 4,"

I don't understand, after he stunk up the joint in the Haskell what did they have to lose by bringing him back at four?

You would be surprised. I'm currently doing everything possible to get into The Factor for next year for one of our mares. Different horses obviously but still was shocked at interest ALREADY. Breeding season is still 6 months away

Tell 'em you know Big Brown.

Gemologist retires

He wouldn't have been able to make the big races for the rest of the year so they're calling it a day. Another that could've raced at 4 but is going to stud instead.

He'll be competing with Tiznow (75K) and Colonel John (15K)for mares--at WinStar in fact. I assume they'll go with a fee in between those two just considering that Gemologist was a GSW at 2.

A refresher, in case the newer DT members missed out on the original thread.

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but you don't exactly see Win Star flush with older horses, doing well. I could be wrong, but the last "good" one i can remember was Well Armed

You're the best, Bigs. Very thoughtful. :D

Sorry about Gemologist. He was one of my Derby boys this year.

Oh well at least Junebug is still around.

Maybe not winning but whatever.

Soldat, Smooth Air, Flashy Bull... I do know how to pick them!

Danzig 10-05-2012 08:39 PM

bigs, seriously, i don't think anyone needs a refresher on that one. one of the best known photos EVER.

How much of a demand is there to have Gemologist's genes to be added to the future generation of race horses?

Gemologist's signature victories are two Restricted stakes races which are the Kentucky Jockey Cup, and the Wood Memorial. It took this horse 3 months to recover from the November KJC race to get back to the track. A paid workout race at Gulfstream and followed up with another month in the barn. Then a victory over a 2nd rate Alphain the Wood Memorial.

My final question is how will this horse's DNA improve racing in the future years ahead?

For a second there, I thought you were Big Brown posting, but then I remembered, horses wouldn't brag about how big they are.

When you beat the Ness chalk at the wire at 14-1, it's time to fist pump.

nice pull my good man
box 1 was going crazy that day, you would have thought we owned the horse. I don't even think anyone had a win bet on him, but it was HUGE for ALL of us to start off the pk4 with a $28+ horse, beat NESS/Midwest, and have Dan's Bernie Butler crush show itself.
btw: everyone but Dan and gpk (i believe) ended up crushing that pk4 for 4 figures

I recall this just a tad bit differently mi amigo...GPK bought half my ticket and we split like 1800.00. I tried to give you guys the Northlands Park invader who was like 20-1 morning line but Noooooo.... wound up going off at 10-1 to bookending a sweet score.

Exactly...you and I were the ONLY ones who hit that pick 4.

I think Alan has his winning ticket confused with the $12.40 trifecta he hit at The Meadows later that night.

indeed, my error, i definitely didn't cash.
it should have said ONLY GPK and Dan cashed as everyone else crapped out on the longest shot on the board in a field of 6 in which i was live to 4 of them, ty and fml
