Trivia

It's been a long time since one of these threads. See if you can get these without cheating on equibase or google.

This horse was a European dirt specialist. He was 4-for-4 lifetime on dirt in Europe, winning at odds of 10/1, 8/1, and twice at 5/1. Twice he won under 140lbs and in his final European dirt start he won by 8 lengths while giving the second place finisher 33 pounds in weight.

He won his American debut in the Californian Stakes at 7/1 odds before soon falling off of form. He was later claimed for $100,000 and quickly rounded back to form and eventually won back-to-back Grade 1's before falling off of form again.

Name him.

Calzone Lord 10-02-2012 03:23 PM

Here's a clue to make it easier. This was him at the absolute peak of his career form.

Correct. Bob Baffert claimed him for 100K and not only resurrected his career for a while... but actually got him to new career best form.

This horse is one of the all-time most overbet horse to ever finish in the top 3 in the Kentucky Derby. He was unfortunately euthanized after breaking down in the PA Derby.

Name him.

Correct. She has one-time owner representation on the board.

The following horse appeared to move-up with lasix even though Kee's old dirt track might have helped -- he was only defeated one-time in his career. Name him.

I don't know what is crazier -- that -- or winning a 50K ALW for older males with only an 86

Dahoss 10-02-2012 04:31 PM

Geri.

Aside from the Belmont, what other grade 1 did Editors Note win? Was the Super Derby a grade 1 that year?

Correct. He eventually became a very good turf horse winning the Woodbine Mile.

Yes. He was also 3rd in the BC Juvie and Preakness and 2nd to Unbridled's Song in the Fla Derby.

But that 86 propelled Lukas into thinking that he was back in top form...and back in Gr. 1's. He surely did not read the sheets or follow Beyers numbers...

Calzone Lord 10-02-2012 04:39 PM

This horse was much better at age 3 and 4.

It wasn't until he went badly off form till they put this son of Theatrical on the turf in his 14th lifetime start..Also when Siphon beat him in the Hollywood GC, it gave Baily the idea that he could not give Siphon an easy lead in the Pacific Classic with Cigar..which was a big factor in Cigar's streak ending that afternoon at Del Mar..

Yep. Although Siphon was pretty good and Cigar would have had his hands full if he didn't press him.

The worst part of Bailey's ride was that Nakatani was using Dramatic Gold to keep Siphon honest. Instead of letting him do the dirty work for him, Bailey went out and assassinated Siphon in a 3-way pace war and got himself beat.

He had a long and solid career afterwards. He never got close to that LA Handicap race. Had to get hurt after that race considering the layoff, but I don't remember.

Calzone Lord 10-03-2012 11:21 AM

Finished 4th in the Kentucky Derby to Street Sense, Hard Spun, and Curlin.

He later competed for $25,000 claiming tags at Calder.
