Of course, they overlook the obvious yet again. The guy who was going to buy a 24 oz drink will now simply just buy two 16 oz. drinks, either simultaneously or when he again grows thirsty. Ironically, if you're on welfare, the conservatives are paying for the soda and everything else...

Most conservatives seem to stick to much more destructive issues, like trying to pass laws telling other people if they can or cannot use birth control, what doctors and patients must discuss, and controlling womens vaginas and uteruses.

Oh, yeah - and trying to tell people who their sexual partners can and cannot be, and what sex acts are legal and not. Oh: and what religion one can practice freely in this country.

And the "welfare queen" catch phrase invented out of blue sky by Ronald Reagan was proven false when he said it, and 1990's welfare reform eliminated the possibility.

Please - never, ever try to make the proven false, "liberals use government to control you" argument, when we have 60 years of conservatives doing it or trying to do much, much worse: aggressively trying to take away other American's personal liberty and freedom.

There is one party whose purpose, if they are elected this fall, is to immediately privatize for profit every penny they can ooze out of what's left (education, health care, retirement), give massive tax breaks to the wealthiest, and end any remaining middle class in this country by stealing every last penny they can.

Wages (earning power) for those earning less than $250,000 a year haven't changed in my lifetime. The ruling class have been very successful, and are going in for the kill to make this country a complete plutocracy.

They use hot button social issues to get your vote and enable their doing that, while pointing at those who oppose them and scream they are stealing your tax dollars to distract you - while they have a hand in your pocket privatizing and taking every last thing this country does for it's citizens. You and your class have gotten nothing from them over the past 60 years - you've only lost wages, and retirement income, and social safety nets. And you're insistent upon handing over your last freedoms and dimes to them.

Interesting that when it comes to soda, all of the sudden "choice" is something that matters to you.

Conservatives as a whole are not against birth control or even abortion for that matter. They just don't want to be forced to pay for it.

Conservatives like me have no problem with a fat slob supersizing everything sugar and bad. We do have a problem when others are forced to pay for it or its effects. Like when these slobs can't afford health insurance because of heart disease and diabetes caused by poor diet choices and are now in need of others pitching in for their premiums in the name of Obamacare!

Simple should you feel you may need BC pills or an abortion, make the choice to make sure the policy you signed up for covers such.

Sure - because in this case it's not a euphemism for killing somebody. I'm all for the choice of choosing not to get somebody pregnant since you both are not ready for it.

The "choice" to kill at a later date is a canard. It never existed except as a footnote to a poorly litigated Supreme Court case, and only survives since the one thing there is a shortage of in Washington D.C. is balls.

I am against the government intervention that continues to keep the massacre of babies in utero legal.

Had the Supreme Court not acted in 1973, the deadlock in the case would have prevented the killing of that human being, and of course the erroneous precedent that one parent alone can order the execution of her would-be child would never have been established.

The fathers aren't off the hook either. It's wrong to set up that situation and then be nowhere to be found. Everybody should learn a little self control instead of acting mentally like children, who then don't want children.

Since men cant get pregnant, only cause it, they get no say IMO. I myself if I were inclined to want a penis inside me and got pregnant I couldnt kill the baby even if I didnt want it, but that is me and I am in no way shape or form someone to tell another what they should do with their body and whats inside it. This is the BIGGEST reason the morning after pill should be made available everywhere over the counter.

Getting back to the thread - everybody who doesn't live in NY can still drink whatever volume of soda or coffee that they think they'd like to buy...

Technically, the proposed law doesn't limit how much soda an individual can drink; it limits the sizes certain companies can sell. There's nothing to stop an individual from buying two 16-oz sodas if that's what he wants to do. Or five, or ten, or twenty.

So the restriction is on companies, not actual individuals. Corporations spend a lot of money researching how to get people to consume more; the massive increase in portion size is evidence of how successful they are. I imagine Bloomberg is figuring the psychology behind how we purchase works both ways.

OK - good point - but equally technical is the fact that the law seeks to make it less convenient to consume the same amount.

Maybe next Bloomberg should outlaw the 16 oz pint of beer and the 12 oz bottle, preferring instead that going to the bar for a beer with the guys means ordering 12 one ounce shot glasses of beer...

i'd rather they just had companies put the actual dietary info of the size you're buying on the label.
who here knows that 20oz soda bottles are considered 2 1/2 servings in a container?
that cinnamon roll in the vending machine? two servings. so is the microwave bowl of chunky soup-yeah, cause i share that big ol' bowl of soup with someone...it's too much to eat by myself. :rolleyes:
