5/19: Hi Ho Pimlico (137th Preakness; $168k Mandatory P5)

Belmont P6 almost went un-hit again but ultimately rewarded 2 players for $430k each. Pimlico action was alternately chalky and surprising with the turf affairs producing $40 and $50 winners that were very hard to reach. Graded events were highlighted by Pletcher exacta in the Susie and outstanding Special that saw superb performances from the trifecta of Alternation, Nehro and Endorsement.

Marathon day post-ATR Friday didn't end until well past 1a this morning after interminable trip to Baltimore and am late getting this out. Friday's ATR featured extensive analysis of the stakes portion of today's Preakness card. Here's a rundown of the tabs..

As discussed for 2 weeks, Derby players are the principals here. Bodemeister has every advantage and opportunity to win this while I'll Have Another appears to be poised for another premium effort. Creative Cause has proven himself tough and dependable while fans of late field addition Daddy Nose Best may be rewarded here with at least an exotics boost. Of the fresh faces, Tiger Walk should finally save ground and Zetterholm is good now..

Most Likely: #7 Bodemeister 8-5 2nd
Next Best: #9 I'll Have Another 5-2 WON ($8.20)
Exotics Use: #8 Daddy Nose Best 12-1 9th

Hi ho Pimlico!

GPK 05-19-2012 09:17 AM

Good Luck today, SB and everyone else.

Gonna fool around with Car Thief a little in the 1st. I think he's a little better than his odds indicate.

I think a $20 P3 using Favorite/Favorite/Favorite is the way to go.

Even the Arabian races chalkout

ADJMK 05-19-2012 11:25 AM

Good luck today Steve. I am singling Awesomondo in my P5 also. Thanks for strongly pointing out how scary Pletcher was yesterday in the Susie. Took another look and moved him up to an A in my P4 and ending up cashing my biggest P4 ever. Had to sweat out stretch drive with Alternation.Like I said yesterday that DVH keeps making my summer.

XIIPointStables 05-19-2012 11:28 AM

Anyone else getting a bunch of aqua-colored screens but no live video from twinspires?? 12:27 est

slotdirt 05-19-2012 11:28 AM

Now my TS feed is nothing but blue screen.

Thx.. U2. Congrats on the sweet quad... Glad the Pletcher push came through. One of the only good ideas on the day really. Good work on Alternation. Was a tremendous performance by him, Nehro and Endorsement. Von Hemel making up on the early photo losses he took this year.

G/L the rest of the way! Chalk parade but the turf events could shake it up.

Was only 12 and not yet a fan, but got to appreciate Bee Bee Bee when getting to know Del Carroll II. He told me everything about the lead up. Track definitely seems dullish. Stalking paths best. G/L rest of the way!

Nice P4 Steve. I singled the 1 in the 9th race in my P5 and of course I hit everything else.Should have looked at your picks in that race.

atolunch 05-19-2012 05:54 PM

Great job today Steve.

I think we saw the Belmont winner today and his name is Paynter. Best 3 year old in the country.
Baffert didn't run him in the Preakness because he didn't want him to beat Body. My opinion

ADJMK 05-19-2012 08:15 PM

Great races today. Not even kicking myself for leaving Lucas and HD out of my P5. I said let him beat me and he did. Preakness unfolded exactly as I thought and lets give kudos to Bode who ran another amazing race. Didn't crunch the exacta because I thought he might stop in the lane the way Mamma K did yesterday but he just got outrun in the last steps by an underated IHA who knows how to win. J. White's 7-1 to win the TC looks pretty sweet now.

Kasept 05-19-2012 09:19 PM

Ty, Chromer, Joe, Nick, Casper, Dave, Larry,

Thanks a lot! What a wonderful day at Old Hilltop and I hope everyone did great.. Anything that went wrong yesterday went right today. Can't imagine a more fun afternoon ending with a truly thrilling Preakness. We then hooked up for crabcake dinner with my godson Sammy at G&M Restaurant. Going to be an exciting three weeks between Met Mile and then a Triple Crown try. More in the morning...
