4/22 DERBY/OAKS DAWN PATROL: Downs quiet, relaxed..

Glorious, breezy morning at CD and very quiet with few Derby participants on the scene. Bodemeister, Dullahan, Mark Valeski the post-break gallopers while Oaks miss Amie's Dini with an easy :50 maintenance half under Jon Court..

Back later with some notes..

Kasept 04-22-2012 08:04 AM

In non-Derby/Oaks action, Former Ward underachiever Dancinginherdreams, now in Bill Mott's barn, looks superb in :46.2 move. Considering Humana Distaff start.

Romans' F&M Sprint Division heavyweight Sassy Image, seeking to defend her Distaff title, very sharp under Tammy Fox with :46-ish half giving a grassy barnmate a 5+ length head start and collaring them by the wire..

Steve, you lucky dog. Keep it coming we can't get enough of these derby updates. Please have a 5 way and a cheese coney for me.

Looking forward to your insight over the next couple weeks.

This may be a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway.....

Is the track open to the general public to view workouts? I'll be there Saturday morning, and with the night racing, was looking for something to do early in the day. Got a buddy coming with me. His first track expericence will be at Keeneland Friday.

Cincinnati chili. Spaghetti, Chili, cheddar cheese, diced onions, and red beans.

That would be a four-way.

Thanks for the reports, Steve. Looking forward to many, many more.

Sounds like a dish I used to get at Bob's Big Boy as a kid. After cotillion.

Abdow's is the New England Big Boy.. (Or was.. Not sure they're still around.)

tywizard 04-23-2012 07:03 AM

6a. The closest thing to a schedule is the CD Media Office's notes (http://www.kentuckyderby.com/news/stories) and twitter feed (https://twitter.com/#!/DerbyMedia).

Frisch's? Is that real, or are you joking?

It's real. I think I used to drive by it everyday when I was in Louisville for a couple months. It's real close to the Trackside Training Center.

I should say I'd drive by it everyday with Wismer in his truck. I didn't drive at that time.

Derby73 04-23-2012 01:08 PM

Frisch's is real. HQ is on Gilbert Avenue in Cincinnati about 5 minutes from where I work.

And thank you to the person who noted that if you have beans with your chili, spaghetti and cheese that is one type of 4-way. The more traditional 4-way in Cincy is with onions, not beans. Probably TMI...

Derby73 04-23-2012 01:10 PM

Steve,

I can't even remember the last time we had Skyline Chili together. It's been too long, I know that.

Steve - do you need credentials for the morning sessions? I just got escorted out by CD security after they made a copy of my license (he did tear it up as I walked out of the main door but still).

Coach Pants 04-25-2012 05:41 AM

Don't get too sad about Big Boy's closing in your area. I went to one last night and it was awful. The fish sandwich isn't the same.

Well I might be stuck on the wrong side of town this week depending on a security system install that's gone completely wrong.

If I can't make it to the east side you can meet me at Indi's on Dixie.

Calzone Lord 04-25-2012 12:13 PM

Southern Equine buys a minority interest in Bodemeister.

Tragically, he will not be moving into the barn of Eric Gey-Oh

Kasept 04-25-2012 12:35 PM

Hopefully Guillot won't be tempted to freak Baffert out with any more voodoo dolls.
