The Woodbine turf course is OUTSIDE the one-mile dirt (oops, Polytrack) track, so is different from most US turf tracks. In fact, it is a 12f oval, the same size as the Belmont main track, but with a longer stretch - 1440 ft. for the WO turf vs 1097 ft for the Belmont main track - longer even than Churchill's seemingly interminable stretch, 1234 ft. Races up to 9f are one turn. It think it makes perfect sense to use a rider familiar with this unusual layout over a rider from out of town.

Damn, was hoping the entries would be up today. Guess we have to wait until tomorrow - seems to be the only good stakes race of teh weekend

ateamstupid 09-13-2006 07:05 PM

How come it's no longer called 'The Atto Mile'?

Atto was the name of a sponsor. Apparently that sponsor pulled out.

Cunningham Racing 09-13-2006 08:43 PM

Yeah, the Euros will obviously be the horses to beat, but I have always liked Diamond Green and have to think that he is capable of better than he has shown thus far this season...I'll take him on his backclass at a price....

Woodbines grass stretch is the "titties"

I like Becrux in here, he shouldnt be 15-1

dalakhani 09-14-2006 05:30 PM

Three valleys should be tough in here although i havent studied the race yet.

I think I like Rebel Rebel in this spot. I think he will be a decent price and can nip Remarkable News at the wire.

bigjag0716 09-15-2006 01:21 AM

Very interesting race that I want to handicapp more deeply, who do you think will go off as the favorite? possibly that Frankel runner? Three Valleys or Remakable News maybe.

Seattleallstar 09-15-2006 10:55 AM

Three Valleys takes this, i have been off the Ad Valorem train a long time now

FATPIANO 09-15-2006 11:24 AM

The winner will be the 8 horse, just like The Derby/Preakness/Belmont/Hambletonian/Woodward/Forego..............three valleys

post2post 09-15-2006 12:53 PM

rebel rebel has had a difficult yr health wise....i

horse for the course 09-16-2006 08:57 AM

I like Three Valleys too. Looks like he is sitting on a big effort but not sure if he like the soft turf. I could also Therecomesatiger and Diamond Green hitting the board.

The $1 Million Grade I Woodbine Mile Is Today

I didn't handicap the race but it looks like a very contentious field. It is a 13 horse field with a ton of graded stakes winners in there. I see alot of familiar names in there. Horses like Sweet Return, Remarkable News, Three Valleys and Rebel Rebel are in there. There are also several good European and Canadien horses in there.

This race used to be called The Atto Mile.

Hey Richi, on the same card today in the Summer Stakes, Dreaming Of Anna stretches out and takes on the boys today. She set the track record this summer at Colonial during the Tippet stakes going either 5 or 5.5 Furlongs on the grass.

Round Pen 09-17-2006 07:59 AM

I was looking at the Thorograph sheets this morning for this race and man is this ever an evenly matched field. I definitely would not bet on anyone here unless you get some value. I can't really say who I am leaning towards until I see how the betting goes.

And yes the Summer Stakes for 2 year olds looks to be a very good race there are a couple of horses in here that could turn out to be good horses. Right now I am leaning toward Approval Rating he certainly has the pedigree to be a good one plus he has had a race over the course.

Danzig 09-17-2006 09:17 AM

arravale also running up there today.

Cunningham Racing 09-17-2006 09:53 AM

It will be firm and hot (80 degrees), which makes it an interesting race.....

I think Ad Valorem would be tough on firm ground, but will a Euro react well in 80-degree heat?....tough call..

Three Valleys should be tough too.....

Cunningham Racing 09-17-2006 09:54 AM

So is Marcavelly...I really like this little horse....

Pedigree Ann 09-17-2006 09:56 AM

Despite having a three-day pounding headache, I will try to find a winner so I can stay in the top 50 at Public Handicapper. Hard to make sound decisions when the brain is on the blink. Any pointers would be of help.

Horses I consider possible contenders are Therecomesatiger, Ad Valorem,
Remakable News, Three Valleys, Rebel Rebel (2/2 in one-turn miles in
the US), Captain Kurt. What am I missing?

BklynTracker 09-17-2006 10:51 AM

SniperSB23 09-17-2006 11:28 AM

Is there any chance Vanderlin actually goes off at 30-1? I'd love him at 20-1.

Yes.. And he's the play here.. Keying both ways with all ($22) in $1 exactas and 1st/2nd with 7-8-11/all in the tri ($30/$30). Plus a $18 show bet as a cover. $100 total..

Edited.. Screwed up the PP #'s..

$24 exacta wheel..
Tris were $36 each..

15-1 on Rebel Rebel intriguing.. 20-1 on Vanderlin nice.. Ballast worth a flyer at 29-1??

Enjoy..

dalakhani 09-17-2006 11:58 AM

im throwing out the favorite.

1 tri key

5 with

1,3,6,8,11

Going across the board with the three.

5 to win.

Originally liked three valleys but reconsidered.
