Transcript from Sheikh

This is in bloodhorse and the link is below. But the Sheikh was quoted as saying "

"Yes. Before, as you know, I buy horses for Europe. European horses look different than American horses. So three years ago, I started to buy to race in America, and we went for the American type of horses. That's why we are successful. We were lucky this year with some horses, as you know. We came back. We bought half and half, half for America and the other half for Europe. And we are very happy. We are successful (at the track) and therefore we come here and buy and put some money back into the business."

I love the end of the quote. I love to see people put money back into the business instead of just taking it out. I was also surprised to see that he reconginzed that American Racing and European Racing is different and requires a different type of animal.

It must be a lot of fun ...

... buying the best race horses with tens of millions of dollars you've stolen from others ...

... yup ... I think I'd enjoy that too.

Apparently the auctions have no problem taking that money.

I think that horse is connected to Ashford/Coolmore(Magnier-Tabor).

For the most part you want to ignore them, but not always. I've been able to cash a few second starters in MSW's that looked awful in their debut, but you knew had to be better than they showed first out.

Yep, long ago I said my piece about these clowns...they use that oil money that should go to the people (and please, no stats about how great living conditions are in the kingdom) to buy horses, boats, young girls (oops, not proven...my bad)...and greedy American breeders stampede to take their blood money! As some know, I have family in the region and visited there long ago...things aren't as they present them! Sportsmen my butt!!!!

Somerfrost,
I really don't know much other than the recent report about a class-action suit that might be filed concerning kidnapping 30,000 kids to be camel jockeys.
This is just too bizare for me to get my "head around".
It should be very interesting.
IMHO, children deserve different treatment than horses or camels, no matter how big the wallet or oil bank deposits.
Sportsmen...my butt!!! Correct!

Yeah, I figured as much. LOL

Can you believe that people would actually do that? It is beyond me.

For one of the few times in my life, I'm totally speechless.
We'll all just have to wait and see how this shakes out.
My guess is that they'll be bought off before it goes much further.

I did a search on this subject and from the information I got, the Sheikh has actually been doing everything he can to end the practice. I believe it said he has barred under-age camel jockeys in the UAE.

There is a good chance that the reason he was named in the suit is because he is rich and he is an easy target. They're probably hoping he will pay them some money to be quiet and end the bad publicity.

I'm not denying that children were kidnapped and forced to become camel jockeys, I'm just saying that the Sheikh was not necessarily involved in this practice. It actually sounds like he is the one who is putting an end to the practice in his country.

In HIS country, I doubt much goes on without his knowledge and approval...we will wait and see the evidence (hopefully) but that's a lot of kids to go unnoticed by the government.
