Steve Davidowitz's Top Ten of 2011

Surely I can't be the only one here to have read this? I didn't see it posted yet here.

#1. . .At the Races with Steve Byk, a satellite radio show broadcast five days a week on the Internet and via Sirius and XM radio, remains the singular, best media outlet for up to the minute racing news; provocative interviews; handicapping insights; perspectives on veterinary science and the industry at large, all of which are put forth in a manner that will inform horseplayers of every level of skill and experience. The host, Steve Byk, who has a journalism background and owns a modest group of racehorses in partnerships with some of his listeners, may have views that at times, I disagree with, but no one is doing more to promote the sport or bring it to the racing fan than Steve Byk.

I firmly believe he deserves a special Eclipse Award for his persistent efforts on behalf of the greatest game man has ever invented and his overall excellence in broadcasting.

Eff the awards...pay the man!

Oaklawnfan 12-08-2011 08:04 AM

No truer words have ever been spoken!

Calzone Lord 12-08-2011 08:26 AM

Nice write-up. Byk's show is certainly Eclipse award worthy. They give them for pictures... so why not one for radio.

ninetoone 12-08-2011 09:27 AM

I agree. Well deserved recognition & a great show!

trackrat59 12-08-2011 09:29 AM

I say we Occupy The Eclipse Awards! How would we go about doing that?

And yes, show Steve the money. At some point they who ever they is, will realize that Steve should be the Senior VP of Public Relations for the Thoroughbred industry. That would be a major move in the right direction.

Having watched you do the show live on set, the amount of work and juggling that goes into every segment is much more that you are giving yourself credit for.

Don't cut yourself short -- you're just a well-dressed traffic cop. :D

I completely agree with the accolades. I'm a relatively new horseplayer (5 years) - and Steve's show has contributed greatly to my understanding, appreciation and enjoyment of it.

Thanks Steve (and Steve).

Just think, if you hadn't banned me for a year, you might have already won an Eclipse. That might hang on your record like steroids hangs on Barry Bonds.

Great show, great work. Having hosted a talk radio show a few times here in Los Angeles, I know how hard it can be and how much work and preparation goes into it. Much more than a traffic cop. We appreciate your efforts.

I can't believe I'm about to do this.

What kind of radio show did you host a few times?

King Glorious 12-10-2011 09:24 PM

Well, guest co-host is more accurate. A friend of mine had a local sports radio show and I went in a few times and co-hosted with him and a few more times made guest appearances. As I said, it was just a local show although it was pretty highly rated in LA and he did go national on Sporting News radio for awhile.

Coach Pants 12-11-2011 06:06 PM

Are you sure the mic wasn't an empty can with a string?

the more important question is did he pay $55?

King Glorious 12-11-2011 09:09 PM

None of that is the point. I was only saying that I know it's not easy and Steve is being very modest when he says he's only a traffic cop.
