Get Well Richard Grunder

Track announcer Grunder to miss beginning of meet
Richard Grunder, the track announcer at Tampa Bay Downs since 1984, will miss the first seven days of the meet as he completes his rehabilitation following minor eye surgery. During Grunder’s absence, Bobby Neuman, the announcer at Calder Race Course, which concluded its meet Friday, will call the races.

I don't see how his impaired vision will affect the quality of his calls. If anything, it might force him to pay more attention to the names of the horses.

Hope he makes a full recovery, best wishes to him for that. That will be very strange not here Grunder, i think he does a nice job. Bobby's an ok fill in, but hurry back Richard.

Scav 12-01-2011 07:40 PM

Its really the best of both worlds there now, his ridiculous race calls and you can see what is actually going on with Trackus.

Rumor has it that Rudeboy is putting a claim ticket in for the 10th race. He thinks $62,500 for Diner In Odem is a steal.

Gotta step up and try to beat out Midwest Thoroughbreds for the shake. :p

GPK 12-02-2011 11:33 AM

FYI...Bigs said his avatar stays until The Waz wins his first at the meet. I'm setting the over/under at the Ides of March.

Rudeboyelvis 12-02-2011 11:34 AM

This is going to be strange to be sure...

Stop it. Are you saying DIO doesn't win tomorrow? Do you know when The Waz won his first race last meet?

Day 3, Race 3.

He will get his first win before they sing auld lang syne.

Sure, he kinda mis-called the last today, but it wasn't so bad. As long as you were watching, and not just listening. He is still the man!

Somehow things seemed "right" having Richard back. Good job by Bobby did great job filling in.

jballscalls 12-27-2011 10:25 AM

Random observation, but i wonder if looking through binoculars can have an effect on retinal detachment? I had surgery for a detached retina in 2010, Dooley had it six months later, and now Richard?

That seems like more than a coincidence.

Coach Pants 12-27-2011 02:23 PM

Eh maybe if you were looking through them a significant portion of the day. How much time, on average, are you looking through binoculars in a week?

Maybe 3-4 hours tops?

I think diet might have more to do with it.

You should check with the military... Based upon your analysis they most do tens of thousands of these surgeries .
