Thank sweet baby Jesus...

..that the Breeders' Cup didn't award the 2011 BC to Belmont Park. It probably would have been held this weekend. We are lucky the BC has smart folks making site selections.

Let this be a teachable moment.

Just pull this out of your closet....

And it will feel just like 70 degrees.

Calzone Lord 10-29-2011 01:57 PM

By the way.... temps in the 30's aren't sh!t.

I'll be running 2-miles a day in nothing but a t-shirt and winter hat in that real soon.

Reason #2,294,149 why I am better than most of you.

justindew 10-29-2011 01:59 PM

None of that clothing would have mattered when they cancelled the card, like they did today.

Calzone Lord 10-29-2011 02:09 PM

The Vaginas become a lot less sandy on jockeys when big money is on the line.

No it wouldn't. First Saturday in November is the date they set for the last few years.

Let this be a teachable moment.

Mostly all of the Euro's complained about the record or near record heat at Santa Anita the year Mandella or a Euro turf horse won seemingly everything.

The weather was miserable at Churchill the year that Personal Ensign won the epic Distaff over Winning Colors and Alysheba won a great edition of the Classic.

The weather sucked at Monmouth and the best horse won virtually every race in an all-day chalk fest of form holding up.

If this subject is going to be an argument about where they think the most :$: can be made --- I'm out of it. I don't really care.

Justin Dew is a sissy.

The weather, as DrugS pointed out, at the 1988 BC at Churchill was absolutely brutal ( I was there ), yet it is regarded as one of the best BCs ever. The weather earlier this week, and last weekend, in KY was horrendous. Belmont cancelled the Saturday before the BC in 1995 ( NY Bred Showcase day ) when a Northeaster blew through.

So, I guess you stand in the group that wants it at Santa Anita every year. Duly noted.

pointman 10-29-2011 04:51 PM

Yeah, the chances of having great weather are much higher in Kentucky then they are in New York next weekend.

PeteMugg 10-29-2011 04:51 PM

I didn't think '88 was so bad. But I was much younger ... and full of bourbon.

Yeah, I remember. But a good time outweighs quite a bit of bad weather, I guess.

No argument with that. It was a great and memorable day.

Say Belmont had run the BC this weekend, like Justin said.

Is he actually blaming NYRA for not knowing there'd be bad weather this weekend, as opposed to next weekend, when they selected CD for the 2011 BC?

I honestly hope he really is not the real Justin Dew.

justindew 10-29-2011 07:28 PM

All I am really saying is that Belmont should never get the BC. CD or SA should get it every year. And I would not be opposed to seeing it given to CD every year either.

And yes, I do blame NYRA for the weather.

I guess Belmont should build a dome.

This makes no sense. The weather can be just as bad in Louisville as it can in New York in November.

that's right. so, since justin says he blames nyra for the weather, i think one can just ignore what he says on this subject altogether. he's obviously insane.

The extended weather outlook for this weekend in 2013 calls for rain, wind, and cold in the New York City area. 2014 looks OK, but Louisville's outlook is better for one week later. So I don't think it makes sense to award it to Belmont, when you also consider the fact that handle will almost certainly be lower and none of the dirt races start in front of the grandstand.

Justin has proven this true on a consistent basis.

justindew 10-29-2011 08:31 PM

False. At least five of my 1,500+ posts have been solid.

so, if the weather was great, one would have to conclude that you'd still have an issue with it being at belmont. handle is a red herring, as it seems no track has ky-like numbers.

if you're anti-ny, just say so instead of going on about the weather. ny certainly doesn't have a monopoly on bad weather. it's a chance you take when you choose that time of year for races.

Obviously you were semi joking about NYRA and the weather, but as for this post, I'd like to see those five posts.

I don't necessarily think the BC would be moved-up a week just to go to Belmont. That extra week really helps tracks space-out the races in Sep/Oct, and one week is not the difference between 80 and 70 degrees.

This past week, it was more than that. I was in NY last weekend and it was normal. Today, we had a snowstorm and it was about 33 degreee in Manhattan, easily over 30 degrees different from last week. Of course, this was not normal today. It seemed like a blizzard today as I was driving to Long Island.

It is currenlty mid-50's, Sunny and absolutely gorgeous weather in NY with the same forecast for tomorrow. Once again, another useless Justin Dew thread. At least he is consistent.
