BC OUTS: Prayer for Relief, Gung Ho, Medaglia d'Amour..

As of 10/19:
Ladies' Classic: Zazu
Turf Mile: Dream Ahead, Western Aristocrat, Immortal Verse, Excelebration (slight chance)

Calzone Lord 10-19-2011 06:06 PM

There is now a huge Facebook cry for Awesome Gem to be retired (he was a close 2nd in a Grade 1 last out)

I'm talking ten exclamation points demanding his retirement "NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

tjfla 10-20-2011 12:57 PM

Byword is coming for the Mile

RolloTomasi 10-20-2011 09:28 PM

No workouts, no races since September, training at the fairgrounds in Alameda instead of Santa Anita, waiting to make decision until the day of pre-entries, and entered in a sale in November...

Smiling Tiger has got to be out of the Sprint.

He is definitely out. Talked to racing manager for owners last night.

To be honest, I didn't think either horse would accomplish much as they did this year, especially after their 4yo debuts. I certainly thought the news of season/career ending problems would have come much sooner for both.

RolloTomasi 10-21-2011 12:38 PM

Flashpoint retired now.

They better move some horses from the Dirt Mile into the Sprint.

Did I read Trappe Shot is going for the longer race? Also, given the right pace scenario, I think Jackson Bend might be a better fit in the Sprint.

He got beat by a few lengths to the best BSF at a mile plus all year. Now its cut back time? He is a small horse and not exactly the fanciest of blood lines, I would assume his market value as a stallion could materialize if he won the Classic, he has a decent shot why not hope Uncle Mo throws a klinker?

Indian Charlie 10-21-2011 01:27 PM

Very interesting.

Freddy, you are debating the chances of Jackson Bend in the BC Classic. Suffice to say, you will win that argument...because no one else logged on here is high on 'shrooms right now. Kudos.

By the way, maybe Jackson Bend doesn't need it, but certainly it's time for you to cut back...

FFS, give him the 60-90 days off and bring him back next year.

"little strain" + 60-90 days off + miss Breeders Cup = Retirement

I just don't get it, sometimes:wf

Talk about wasting a horse's year.

People have stopped dieting, so clearly Jenny needs the money.

Danzig 10-22-2011 09:15 PM

are all these horses really set to make it big as studs? it's amazing to me the amount of mediocre horses that are hustled off to the barn. it just seems to me they have a better shot at winning on the track than in the breeding shed.

Indian Charlie 10-22-2011 09:50 PM

Well, that horse was VASTLY overrated, and more to the point, overhyped. I think further running was just going to tarnish his value.

Sadler is a freaking idiot if he genuinely believes that TC is the best horse he's ever trained.

Danzig 10-22-2011 10:09 PM

talk is cheap. it's not like they're going to get any real grief for saying things like that. maybe he has a share in the horse and is trying to talk him up?

Pretty likely. More likely than him being a total idiot.

thanks. TC was spectacular bid like

Indian Charlie 10-23-2011 02:19 PM

That's the spirit!

Don't get me wrong, TC was a pretty nice horse, but man that horse got a lot of hype.

He was handled wrong his entire career. Especially this year. Why was he going 10f on synthetic surfaces? Why was he not running in a race like the Met Mile? The Whitney and Woodward on dirt at 9f also had to be much better then what he ran in. Not saying he would have won any of the aforementioned races anyway, Tizway and Flat Out are good and the filly is OK. Those spots just seem more logical now, and then.

pointman 10-23-2011 03:16 PM

http://www.courier-journal.com/artic...t-Breeders-Cup Tizway out of BC Classic with ligament injury. Crap.

ETA: DRF says he'll be retired to Spendthrift. http://www.drf.com/news/breeders%E2%...sic-due-injury

In other news: The Maryland Jockey Club tweeted that King Leatherbury didn't supplement Ben's Cat for the $100K so he won't be in the BC Turf Sprint. He's going in the Laurel Dash.

This sucks. I was looking forward to seeing Tizway and Twirling Candy run well. This takes a little something away from the weekend.

Well said. I bet against him in the Met and the Whitney. Hoping to make that $ back betting on him in the Classic. Hope he has fun in the shed.

I think you should change it if Switch is able to break from the gate in the BC Filly and Mare Sprint.
