All-time favorite horses from betting...
This is probably the only horse in history who I ever won 3 "nose" photos with -- and all of them came at a price.
The great Said Enough. ![]() He couldn't do sh!t on dirt...but he was a relative killer going a mile on the turf. I took notice of him when he was 3rd at 69/1 despite setting 22 and 44 and change fractions and the winner was last after a half mile - and 2nd place was second to last after a half mile. He's 34/1 and almost upsets a field at Saratoga next out. Sh!ts the bed on dirt... and proceeds to win photo after photo for me. |
Is this an example of a read bored?

A filly named Caught In the Rain. As I recall she won consecutive races at Philly, NY and Kentucky at increasing double digit odds on the grass.

Sorry you had to find out like this. |
Debonair Joe winning the Vernon O. Underwood at Hollywood Park at 52-1 and a few weeks later wins the Malibu at 26-1

I had a $100 win bet on him in the vernon o underwood by accident. I wanted to bet the #4 horse in the 9th race but I played the 8th race instead. By the time I got home I noticed I bet the wrong race and was very upset but the horse won at 52-1. The #4 horse did win the 9th race but he was only 5-1.
The malibu I had a $2 4 horse Exacta Box. |
That's nuts.

I have an even crazier story of winning the Magna Pick 5 on Feb 25th 2006 for 11.7k before Uncle Sam's 25%. Einstein would have to be my most sentimental favorite horse over debonair Joe.
|
Einstein is probably the first horse to win Grade 1 races on Dirt, Turf and Synthetic.
|
Diplomatic Jet.. 30-1 in the Manhattan, 12-1 in the Man O War, finally got a little respect in the Turf Classic and paid almost $14 for the win..

Not that I know of. The '09 Big Cap was Pro-Ride, right?
Lava Man has a Gr 1 win on each surface. |
Back when I first got into racing, and I didn't know much, I saw a couple of horses jumping up 2-3 claiming levels off of a 1-2 finish very recently.
Not really understanding the nuances of how the claiming system worked, I decided what the hell, these two shouldn't be going off at such a large price, and I boxed them. Sure as shid, Quip Star and Cachuma came back 1-2 again and the exacta paid something like 350 bucks. Some other claimers I really did well with included Bulig Z., Chris's Lad and abergwaun lad. They were never huge prices, but I always seemed to hit them on the right days. Abergwaun Lad was probably the most claimed horse I can think of. My favorite horse to bet was Tight Spot. I waited for him to Turf, and I bet him every start on Turf he made, right up till his BC mile appearance, which I knew he couldn't win. Made a killing betting Glen Hill Farm Relaunch babies the first couple of crops he sired. |

You and I had a little catfight about Said Enough on the old AOL boards in early 2000. Poor horse ended his days racing at Los Al.

Chedoke Falls....cheap claimer who was virtually unbeatable at Penn National going 5-6furlongs, folks kept betting against him and I kept winning with him.

Hey man .... $20 - a bottle of Popov - and an erection is pretty much all it took for IC to recruit another chick into his West Covina Hoggie Harem.

Some of the largest horse racing bets (I used to bet far more on baseball) I made were on him. I made thousands on him. The only win bet I lost on him was that bogus DQ in the DMR race. |

Lighten up Francis, it was a joke. I knew he never paid much. That is all I was saying. Quote:

It's Tricky has been awful good to me this year.
I think she has a huge shot in the Distaff as well. I just wish I would have taken the 15:1 the Wynn was offering on her 2 weeks ago, when I was out there. The biggest long shot I have had a huge opinion on was last November, when I loved King Congie getting the turf @43:1 :$: |
A claimer named Ghost Rider In Red at Presque Isle Downs is a favorite horse of my father.
I actually had the Casino host once tell me "I have to leave the room whenever that horse runs. I think your father would blow that horse" |

In the only town in the USA, no less, with more dead people (a city of cemeteries) than living. Though, you don't remember the details quite right. |

I suspected that I might get poked fun of by that Tight Spot bit anyways. As for the other tight spot I found myself in, it was pretty interesting finding myself homeless at 2 AM in a dead town hundreds of miles away from my home, with no car. I looked up my cousins later that morning, and dropped acid for the only time in my life. It ended up being a pretty cool weekend. |
My Top 5...
8/11/90: Michael Aro's Rockingham shipper Keynote Speaker (25-1; Chavez on) catches Tom Bush's Balinar (14-1; Mig on) at the wire in the 3rd race on Go for Wand's Alabama Day. $721 exacta with the board's two longest prices and my first IRS ticket. 5/6/95: DWL's #3 Derby horse Thunder Gulch with Gary Stevens scores for a $51 win tote that keys big exotics with McPeek's Tejano Run and Wayne's favored Timber Country. Still my largest single race take away, and it came at Hippodrome Bluebonnets in Montreal, so there was no tax witholding. 11/4/00: Best. Breeders' Cup Day. Ever. Too involved to specify, but biggest hit came thanks to Frankel's Honest Lady at 31-1 second behind Kona Gold and ahead of Bet On Sunshine. A bonanza. 1/28/06: Marty Wolfson's Miesque's Approval in the Sunshine Millions Turf not only wins at 48-1 with Eddie Castro, but spoils Jerry Bailey's last mount (Silver Tree) at the same time. 4/30/10: Eric Guillot and Mike Moreno's Champagne D'oro wires the Acorn at 39-1 under Martin Garcia with a large number of DTers and ATR listeners riding along happily. |
Dreamed to Dream 82-1
Be Smart 49-1 Richiesgirlgonewild 30-1 in the Old Hat She Be Wild in the Juvie Fillies Jazil in the Belmont Stakes :D Brushed Prince Big Brown's maiden start |
A horse named Nolan in a jump race on Haskell Day 1988 or 89. Played him because he looked good on the track but also because I had a college roommate with that name. Was with a group I had just met that day who played along at around 25-1. Led to a long festive day and evening on the Jersey Shore.

Intercontinental in the BC Pleasant Home on same card.. Some ridiculous horse BTW gave me that I thought was a 5/2 fav so I bet double my typical max that paid 20 bucks. A COMPLETE accident.
