Through first 4 weeks, 5 biggest surprises

Well, this is shaping up to be an odd and surprising year, so far...my biggest surprises:
1. Cam Newton....say what you will, his numbers are unworldly.
2. The Dream Team's nightmares...1-3 with 3 fourth quarter collapses, where's the D?
3. The Redskins are 3-1! Never would have dreamed it!
4. The Lions are 4-0! That in itself is not so surprising but how they come from behind...way behind!
5. The Bungles are 2-2! Questioned whether they would win 2 games all season!

The Bills don't make this list?? A .500 season would have been lofty in August now 10 wins could be achieved if injuries allow. Honorable mention to the Raiders but Jason will take care of any hope by years end. The rest of the list is on target IMO.

Any team who loses to the Bengals doesn't deserve a spot on a list of anything positive.

Yeah thats certainly the way to do it. Draw your conclusions off of the last game in the NFL.

slotdirt 10-03-2011 08:13 AM

Dude, it's the Bengals. They're bad. If the Bills were what we thought they were, they wouldn't lose to the Bengals.

It was a huge let down spot for the Bills yesterday after beating the Pats (for the first time in like 18 games) the week before.

slotdirt 10-03-2011 08:41 AM

No doubt about it. Yesterday could have also been a huge letdown for the Lions, but they figured out a way to win, even if it were Tony Romo-induced. Either way, obviously the way the Bills are going is positive, but good teams figure out ways to win that game yesterday. They'll live and learn.

They're better than everyone thought. They've played great defense all year. Held 3 of their 4 opponents under 300 yards including the prolific Buffalo offense. It's becoming evident this team can play D.

Not surprised by the Redskins, but Grossman is starting to be Grossman, and thats not a good thing.

I like those Lions, but those come from behind wins were against a hopeless Viking team and a very giving Tony Romo.

Heard someone say that the Bengals Defense are for real. Well I'm shocked because I'm 1-3 on picking them. Lost the Cleveland game when they won at the pound. Lost the Denver game when they couldn't beat the pathetic Broncos. Won the SF game, and lost yesterday. Besides Buffalo does any other of the 3 offenses really move the ball?

I would call Buffalo's 3-1 start a surprise plus their victory last week.
San Fran's 3-1 has me a little shocked.
I know play-action pass has come into play, but after Tennessee's free-fall last year, I'm surprised with there start also.

Don't hate on the Bengals. A.J. Green is a top 5 receiver already.

IMHO. He's technically top 20 but there is only 3 other receivers who I'd take over him.

Fitzgerald, Johnson, and DeSean Jackson. With Jackson it's a toss up because he's injury prone.

Antitrust32 10-03-2011 12:24 PM

Calvin or Andre?

slotdirt 10-03-2011 01:32 PM

Thanks, Cris Carter.

Bills blew it, it seems like they were never in control or had it the game in its grasps. Cincinatti just finally executed in the end, comeback and beat all time great/stud Tom Brady one week. The next week cant hold off rookie Andy Dalton with a 14 pt lead. Harvard boy couldnt get them on track in the 2nd half offensively.

I bet on the game so im even more upset about it.

You got a horrible call on the Stevie Johnson ruled drop.

I know it's way way way after the fact, but that line seemed very fishy from the start.

He's talking about the point spread.

I meant the LINE (didn't realize I spelled it wrong) was fishy. Obviously it's easy to say this morning, but the game and line had trap written all over it.

I think the Bengals have a serious Defense. Fitzpatrick never looked comfortable all day. That was a game that may come back and haunt the Bills come playoff time. Still think the Bills got hosed though...

They allowed Dalton to get away with the Tom Brady rule.

yup you are right about that, should of seen the signals. Everyone thought that Buffalo was the lock for this week with that point spread that seemed to good to be true. Looks like it was. Bills beating the Pats, and the Bengals off a pathetic loss to the 49ers at home. 2.5 was the spread I got, I was like wow all the Bills have to do is win by a field goal. Didnt catch that Stevie Johnson catch/non catch though.

Forgot about Calvin. Yeah so A.J. is 4th and DeSean is a close 5th.

For you Fantasy football people, my surprises have been Ryan Matthews for SD, and TE Jimmy Graham from NO.

I wanted to let you know that I went to the Florida vs Bama game Saturday night. The energy in the Swamp was incredible... blew any Eagles game or other college football game I've been to (arizona, west virgina) out of the water. Bama has a very good team. Their O-line is like a freaking NFL o-line and Richardson is a beast. Too bad Brantley went down, because the game was not that exciting after that. Alabama had a lot of representation in the stand also.

I didn't watch the game. Had a hot date.

The defensive line is the key to the national championship. If they can't get pressure on the QB then a match-up problem like Stanford could be kinda embarrassing. Just haven't faced a good qb yet...and no Wilson is not that good.
