Baseball Playoffs

Tonight, the Rays are starting rookie, Matt Moore. It will be his second major league start of his career. Texas counters with CJ Wilson who is 5-0 with a 1.94 ERA vs Rays.

The Rays 4 man rotation for the series will be 50% rookies.

Texas is going to crush the Rays. Congrats, in advance, to the Rangers.

horseofcourse 09-30-2011 12:13 PM

first round winners....Tigers, Rays, Phillies, Diamondbacks
LCS winners...Tigers, Diamondbacks

World series champs...Tigers

slotdirt 09-30-2011 12:23 PM

Matt Moore is going to be a great pitcher. Do you guys understand now why I wanted the Tigers to finish with the two seed?

GO Crew! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Beast mode coming playoff style, watch out for the plushdamentals at Miller Park!

I meant to post the article last night, but there's a story on ESPN about the biggest defensive liabilities in the postseason. The worst fielder in this year's postseason shouldn't be a surprise to anybody who's followed defensive metrics over the last, well, 15 years:

Derek Jeter

Cannon Shell 09-30-2011 02:14 PM

Give me NYY, Texas, Philly and Milwaukee
Texas and Milwaukee
Texas

If Detroit wins game 1 I'd probably switch picks

I am so angry at you!

horseofcourse 09-30-2011 02:33 PM

That TRammell and Whitaker can really play up the middle, why wouldn't the Tigers win it all??

clyde 09-30-2011 02:41 PM

stop it!

I hate them!

clyde 09-30-2011 02:43 PM

By the way...know why Belcher really quit?

Because he knew he could not go through all winter knowing it was his job to straighten out Exhausto and Jimenot.

Anyone would quit facing that mess.

slotdirt 09-30-2011 02:44 PM

Will they get enough offense from Brookens at third? Is there enough geritol for Darrell Evans to make it through an entire postseason? Enough postgame hot dogs for Juan Berenger? Really, these are the questions that need to be asked about the Tigers chances because Trammell and Whitaker are solid.

Bigsmc 09-30-2011 02:49 PM

Guillermo Hernandez is rock solid anchoring their bullpen.

Any truth to the rumor that Leyland will start Mickey Stanley at short?

slotdirt 09-30-2011 02:58 PM

I think the bigger issue is whether Brookens or Marty Castillo will get the bulk of the at-bats at third. No chance Stanley's coming in at short unless it's for the old-timers game.

Cannon Shell 09-30-2011 05:00 PM

Clayton Kershaw pitches for the Rays and he throws 98 now?

Those are on their way up by the second. (well, the ERA is if nothing else)

horseofcourse 09-30-2011 05:04 PM

Odd matchup the Rangers/Rays...the visiting team won every post season game between the two last year and looks like the trend will continue in game 1.

Cannon Shell 09-30-2011 05:07 PM

WTF is the deal with Maddens specs?

horseofcourse 09-30-2011 05:10 PM

Madden has grown lots of hair too. I didn't see much of the Rays in the regular season.

Cannon Shell 09-30-2011 08:06 PM

Really Umps? There is a freakin puddle in front of home plate

slotdirt 09-30-2011 08:08 PM

Think they're trying to avoid Verlander/Sabathia getting rained out of a start. Still, it's almost unfair to hitters to have those two out there in a monsoon.

No Joe Buck or McCarver though

I thought it was funny that the announcers never once mentioned that Verlander had to get 4 outs in the 1st. Or that he didnt seem to throw a single pitch that actually was inside their little strike box. Instead they said stupid things like Inge would have thrown home in the 1st inning of a regular season game after bobbling the grounder hit to him. Really?

slotdirt 09-30-2011 09:10 PM

No way they can finish this game tonight. Well, not if they care about people actually watching it or Verlander and Sabathia pitching more than like 40 pitches combined.

slotdirt 09-30-2011 09:26 PM

Tigers got kind of hosed the way that shook out - probably should have stopped the game mid-inning. The last couple at-bats were basically impossible for the Tigers.

Usually Darling is alright, but all 3 of them were awful early in the Yankees game. Starting with calling the pitch Young hit for a HR, it was a slider and not a fastball. Then not even considering that Caberera didn't have a clear throwing lane to attempt to get Granderson at second on the fielders choice. Then the Inge play.

All 3 of them were brutal.

3 men in a booth does not work in ANY sport. The Thursday night college football booth is obnoxious with Jessie Palmer and Craig James battling it out for airtime. Two crappy commentators does not equal one good one. MNF is a debacle at times. Jaws is okay. Gruden is okay. The two of them together is too much. Sunday night baseball made a big mistake going to the three man booth. I am not a fan of Joe Morgan (arrogant ass), but watching a Sunday night game in the past had kind of an old school feel with Jon Miller and Morgan.

Too many voices trying to be heard, too many stories and opinions getting shoehorned into a conversation. Sometimes it's okay to let it rest for a couple seconds and let us watch the pictures and heard the sounds of the game.

Boy, those D-backs are really good.

They should sweep their way to WS Champs.

Stop makin fun of my picks!! Charlie Nagy man, he's gonna have them pitchers romping soon, very soon.

clyde 10-01-2011 11:21 PM

!! =:> !!

slotdirt 10-02-2011 03:40 PM

Who IS the play-by-play guy in the Yankees-Tiger series? Seriously, he is awful. I am pretty sure he's never watched a baseball game or read a Detroit Tigers or NYY box score in his life.

horseofcourse 10-02-2011 06:27 PM

Big time performance by Scherzer today.

slotdirt 10-02-2011 06:53 PM

Less big time performance by Valderde.

It was a non save situation. He could get away with miniscule time performance.

I think the weather might have comprimised Valverde's split finger fastball. I only saw the Cano at bat and it was coming down pretty hard at that point. You have to believe the rain was a big factor.

slotdirt 10-02-2011 07:31 PM

Trust me, it wasn't coming down like that the entire inning. It would have been a perfect Detroit sports conclusion if that Avila slip on the Yankees logo had changed the game's outcome.

Would you please stop it with that horse crap. 3 of the 4 professional sports franchises in Detroit have won a championship in my lifetime. IN fact I need two hands to count them. I can count the Cleveland championships in my lifetime on my fist. Stop it with that please. It's nonsensical. Detroit sports fans have led a charmed life...9 freaking championships in my lifetime and you are whining about Detroit sports conclusions. Good God.

slotdirt 10-02-2011 09:36 PM

I'll give you the Wings, but the Tigers have stunk for the better part of the last 20 years and the Lions have stunk since the 50's. And the NBA doesn't count because nobody cares.
