Hong Kong 2011 ~ 2012

A little late but I always overdo HK :o :D :wf so I guess it's okay.

On opening day Joy and Fun won...

http://racing.scmp.com/freeservice/n...s20110912a.asp

New trainer (new to Hong Kong anyway, not new new) Richard Gibson is off the mark, superstar-to-be Smart Giant won, the Raiders discussed on the Centaur thread.

Smart Giant winning...

http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...2011&raceno=07

Nice field shaping up for the Kwangtung H. this weekend with Brave Kid, Cerise Cherry, Super Satin and California Moon.

Lots of off-season retirements of course but no huge names to note...

my miss storm cat 09-18-2011 12:18 PM

Carthage finally won one...

http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...eno=6&venue=ST

Brightexpectations had her first HK start... not great. Pretty One (Prebble) won that one (the Guangzhou Cup).

Handsome Zulu is entered at Happy Valley on Wednesday and for our friends from NZ :) Military Move just had a barrier trial but I mean he wasn't really asked for much and besides.. Penglai Xlaizi (sp) with Chadwick up was in that one so...

Retired...

Bayview Greyslew
Kildare
Blue Sky
Praising
Everlasting
Joyful Years
Implied Volatality
Premier Horse

Thanks for the memories, kids.

my miss storm cat 09-19-2011 11:51 PM

Little Bridge won't run in the National Day Cup...

He'll face off with Sacred Kingdom in the Sprint Trophy instead.

my miss storm cat 09-30-2011 10:01 PM

Lock of the night... Smart Giant in R6.

R7... good luck to Sacred Kingdom of course. I think it might be Sweet Sanette / Sacred Kingdom / Little Bridge.

Great field as is the following race with Ambitious Dragon, Beauty Flash (my choice), Xtension, Cerise Cherry, Sight Winner, Sunny King, etc. Just ****ing stellar!

my miss storm cat 10-08-2011 06:33 PM

Medic Fortune won a barrier trial... batch 4, Chadwick up.

Please Mr. Millard give this kid the mount.

This horse is 7 and out of 32 HK starts has never won...

(He is the former NZ trained Pierre Joseph).

Matt Chadwick even got Regency Horse to win one...

Do it!

http://www.hkjc.com/english/press/btrs.asp

Gerald Mosse will leave to ride Immortal Verse in the QEII (beat frankel!:D) and then Dream Peace in the EP Taylor at Woodbine next weekend.

* * *

Retired... one of the only girls in HK, the diva from SAF... Sweet Sanette.

NO idea why. :(

This is her beating Sacred Kingdom, Able One and One World...

http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/r...2011&raceno=07

She retires with a rating of 117 which puts her around #19 in the Top 50 list.

While I keep up to date I've been terrible about posting anything on this thread...

I guess after years and years of being alone on the HK thread(s) it gets, well.... whatever.

Hey CSC... if you're around your boy Collection was just transfered  to Derek Cruz...

* * *

How good is Mathew Chadwick?

Geez i love the old guy Medic Fortune (to be fair back when he was Pierre Joseph in NZ he did win 2)... but after 34 starts I officially decided to give up. I mean 7 years old and years over there... just figured that's okay it will never happen.

It's like what happened with Regency Horse... he hadn't won since 2006 with Felix up and Chadwick gets on him and wins two in a row.

I am thrilled that the rest of the world will know this kids name after the big races next weekend!

Medic Fortune winning for the very first time today...

And you ,sir, are a Japanese Mormon.

And you tie dye women's boa's.

my miss storm cat 12-02-2011 06:14 PM

Well gee isn't this nice to have some company on the HK thread

Ummm okaaaay.

my miss storm cat 12-07-2011 05:56 PM

I won't dwell on this but Matt Chadwick wins what... 2 races yesterday and so does Frankie and Frankie wons?

Okay. That's the way it goes.

I know, I know his races were "more important". :wf

my miss storm cat 12-14-2011 05:24 PM

On the continuing tale of Good Ba Ba and his lying ******* of an owner (not just this... it went on for a long time with firing trainers, bad choices, etc)...

http://racing.scmp.com/freeservice/n...s20111213c.asp

Unbelievable.

This horse deserves to be retired somewhere nice and not running in Macau cause of greed.

my miss storm cat 12-16-2011 01:39 PM

Green Birdie and Brightexpectations retired...

Bear Hero doing much better and back (R2, Griffin Trophy)..

Good luck to Good Job... 19 starts, 0 wins, rating of 21 , Douggie up...

Upset of the night... I think it's Elite of Chiu Ton (the former South Central who is not exacctly a win machine), Chadwick up.

(That's a nice field, btw... Helene Witty, Mighty Sun, Bullish King could draw in...)

Special good luck wishes to my favorite horse running tonight, Eight Plus Nine, in the final (won't win but whatever).

8 years old, 49 starts, used to be Adept and in his one and only start back home (NZ) Vosne Romanee was 2nd to him (field of 14).

Guyon has the mount for the first time...

This horse recovered from Colic back in 2007 and basically has one win a year so hopeful tonight is it but if not that's just fine.

my miss storm cat 01-10-2012 08:40 PM

Great field! How on earth could anyone make a pick here??!! :D

Ooh, great field. Going for MM and HZ of course, but so much respect for the others.

my miss storm cat 01-11-2012 10:16 AM

Completely surprised by the results and while I was rooting for half the field none of mine won.

Pure Champion (who was Steinbeck earlier in his career) won.

The thing is I checked and two of his three owners had owned poor Absoute Champion so yeah... very nice for them.

Our kids will do better next time!

Not too likely but that would be fantastic if Sacred Kingdom could win this for the 3rd year in a row.

They're taking it one race at a time now so I'd imagine he could be retired if he doesn't do well on Sunday.

Of course if he wins he beats the record for wins set by Silent Witness.

We shall see. :)

Very nice field...

I keep going back and forth with this and really don't think he can win tonight but good luck to Sacred Kingdom... extraordinary horse, stellar career, deserves retirement now. I know it might be his final race... I hope that it is either way.

Racing Incident Report

JOY AND FUN began awkwardly. FINAL ANSWER blundered at the start. LUCKY NINE began awkwardly and shortly after the start raced in restricted room between SACRED KINGDOM and LITTLE BRIDGE. Near the 500 Metres, SUNNY KING was carried in by RICH UNICORN which shifted in to obtain clear running. Approaching the 400 Metres, LITTLE BRIDGE got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of JOY AND FUN. LUCKY NINE, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence. After this, LUCKY NINE had some difficulty obtaining clear running until near the 300 Metres. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that SACRED KINGDOM had lost its left front plate. A veterinary inspection of AT MOMENT IN TIME after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, AT MOMENT IN TIME will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LITTLE BRIDGE, EAGLE REGIMENT and JOY AND FUN were sent for sampling.

Please please please let Sacred Kingdom's owners let him retire now. It's time and he's earned it many times over.

Racing Incident Report

LITTLE BRIDGE and RICH UNICORN bumped at the start. From the outside barrier, SACRED KINGDOM was taken across behind runners shortly after the start. Making the turn near the 850 Metres, LET ME FIGHT got its head up and proved difficult to settle when being steadied away from the heels of LITTLE BRIDGE which shifted in when only just clear. After the 400 Metres, RICH UNICORN was shifted out to obtain clear running after being momentarily held up behind EAGLE REGIMENT and inside JOY AND FUN. Throughout the race, BLAZE KING travelled wide and without cover. A veterinary inspection of SACRED KINGDOM, EAGLE REGIMENT and LET ME FIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. JOY AND FUN and LUCKY NINE were sent for sampling.

Let's see...

Won 17 times?

Check!

Of those 7 were Group 1's?

Check!

Won $46 million in HK dollars (about $6 million here)?

Check!

Oh but wait... no matter how badly he runs now lets go for that Silent Witness record and get 18 wins and then hey why not try to beat it?

Jesus Christ. Poor horse gets a break but they're looking at the Bauhinia Sprint Trophy on April 1st.

For anyone who thinks I'm being idiotic come on he's 8, he hasn't won in over a year, he almost died...

That old line about he's done enough?

Well HE has.

Prebble out with a broken collarbone, Ho out with a broken arm. No word on the horses involved but I haven't seen them listed as "retired" which is a good sign. Cheng (idiot) only got 7 days for his part. Did I mention he's an idiot?

Noble Conqueror from Fownes to Lee. Hmmm.

Mercedes Benz Classic Cup is this weekend... Smart Giant, Captain Sweet Fay Fay et al. Looks like it will be a really nice field!

Hate to see him go.

Masterful on good old Able One!

Oliver permitted to ride in Citibank Hong Kong Gold Cup

16/02/2012

Permission has been granted for Jockey Damien Oliver to ride IRIAN, trained by John Moore, in the Citibank Hong Kong Gold Cup (HK Group 1) scheduled to be conducted at Sha Tin Racecourse on Sunday, 26 February 2012. Jockey Oliver is permitted to ride in this race in accordance with the criteria previously approved by the Racing Committee in respect of the approval for overseas jockeys to ride in principal races in Hong Kong.

As a Visiting Jockey, Damien Oliver will be permitted to accept race riding engagements in all races run at the aforementioned race meeting.

He has advised his minimum riding weight as 120 lbs.

Thank God cause man if it can't be Brettie or Beadman it sure as hell shouldn't be others who have had the chance (cough cough Mosse, Lai, etc). :D

Lock of the day...Crown Witness, Chadwick up, R6. If you're reading this you know he's owned by the De Silvas (Silent Witness).

Retired... Sugar on Top. 6 seasons, 1 win, rating of 30. The former Mr. Jinky (NZ)... hope he gets to go home.

Beadman injured in a barrier trial this am... a broken cheekbone, no idea which horse was involved or what happened.

It was really interesting that he chose the lowest rated horsie from the Moore stable, Dan Excel... now he's out too (3 of them).

Oliver will come to replace him on Sunday.

edit - The horse involved was Lucky Together. No idea if he's okay.

edit - This isn't a good sign... he's only three, 6 starts and already listed as "retired" so yeah... I can't say for sure but i don't think it's a good sign at all. Poor guy.

I realize so many people care about this race :D... had to just say that while the experts seem to think it's between Fay Fay and Sweet Orange (fantastic runners both!) I'd go with Captain Sweet or Smart Giant.

Just sayin...

(Oh except for Crown Witness winning the 6th). :)

Racing Incident Report

PACKING TYCOON began awkwardly. BEAUTY TOUCH and CHEF bumped at the start. DOMINANT was slow to begin and then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of CHEERS JOY which shifted out after being bumped by LIBERATOR. From wide barriers, SWEET ORANGE and HORACE’S EMPIRE were taken across behind runners shortly after the start. After the 1200 Metres, LIBERATOR was left racing wide and without cover and then approaching the 700 Metres was taken wider again by CAPTAIN SWEET which was taken out by CHEERS JOY which shifted to the outside of PACKING TYCOON. Approaching the 800 Metres, FAY FAY proved very difficult to settle and was severely checked away from the heels of CHEF. SMART GIANT and DOMINANT, which were following, were badly hampered in consequence. After this, FAY FAY continued to prove difficult to settle and near the 750 Metres was checked away from the heels of ZAIDAN. When FAY FAY was checked away from the heels of ZAIDAN, it shifted out, resulting in DAN EXCEL being taken wider. DOMINANT, which was following, was again hampered in consequence. DOMINANT had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight and near the 350 Metres became unbalanced when shifted out across the heels of CHEERS JOY which commenced to give ground. Near the 400 Metres, FAY FAY and DAN EXCEL bumped. In the Straight, SMART GIANT hung in. After the race, J Lloyd reported that SMART GIANT coughed on a number of occasions on pulling up. A veterinary inspection of SMART GIANT after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SMART GIANT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The performance of CHEERS JOY, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, CHEERS JOY will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When questioned, W C Marwing stated that passing the 600 Metres he positioned SWEET ORANGE behind HORACE’S EMPIRE with a view to shifting to the outside of that horse at the entrance to the Straight. He said however that near the 500 Metres SWEET ORANGE got its head on the side and lay in which positioned SWEET ORANGE to the inside of the heels of HORACE’S EMPIRE. He said rounding the Home Turn he considered improving inside HORACE’S EMPIRE to take advantage of a run should it develop between FAY FAY and SMART GIANT which was some lengths ahead of him at that time. He added however that after the 400 Metres SMART GIANT shifted out to race directly to the inside of FAY FAY and for this reason he immediately shifted SWEET ORANGE to the outside of HORACE’S EMPIRE to make its finishing run. A veterinary inspection of CAPTAIN SWEET after the race did not show any significant findings. FAY FAY, ZAIDAN and SWEET ORANGE were sent for sampling.

6 Thumbs Up will be further back than California Memory

current odds

#2 3.1/1
#6 13/1

Good luck tonight.

I'll stick with Thumbs Up. I've liked him ever since I was at the track for his maiden win here in NZ.

my miss storm cat 02-26-2012 11:08 AM

Nice one, Bill!

So ed... I just cannot stand Mossee having that mount.I wonder if Chadwick had... oh well never mind!

Besides the winner who isn't HOY for nothing and the 2nd and 3rd place finishers gotta say that was a really nice run by Pure Champion.

If Tye hadn't taken him out a little wide at one point.....

Oh and I know Beadman is out and you can't fault Lloyd for staying on Xtension but Cheng? Come on if they wanted Collection to have any chance at all they'd have gone with someone a little better, no?

Exciting race and congrats to the winnah who I guess might go to Dubai.

THUMBS UP was replated after the horse broke its right front plate in the stable. THUMBS UP was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. XTENSION began awkwardly. Near the 900 Metres, COLLECTION commenced to prove difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CALIFORNIA MEMORY. XTENSION had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that IRIAN had sustained a small wound to the right front fetlock and that MIGHTY HIGH had lost its right front plate. AMBITIOUS DRAGON and XTENSION were sent for sampling.
