Jerardi: Guerrero just a better trainer than everyone else

Everybody knows an ice machine makes all the difference. GEEZ.

He is going to regret giving away a top secret training method like using ice. Now other trainers have the top secret playbook to 40% win rates.

Jerardi's arrogance seeps through in this puff piece.
Apparently Dick knows the "formula" on how to spot a "juice" trainer and somehow a guy who bats 50+% off the claim with a sizable sample size doesn't fit into that profile. I think it laughable that Guerrero now has a "program" where he goes over them teeth to tail and has a brand new ice machine. Funny he brought up steroids since his horses all look like they have been getting steady diet of them. I remember when CBS sports covered Shifty Shieks close Woodward loss to Slew O Gold and they did a piece on Oscar where he said his success after many years lacking it was due to different shoes. Even noted shill Brent Musberger acted skeptical about the claim. I sent a email to Jerardi asking of he believed Sammy Sosa doesnt speak English, Mark McGwire worked hard to hit 70 home runs or if ice had anything to do with Barry Bonds enormous head. I don't expect a reply. I should have asked him if he believed in the tooth fairy. |

I suppose that when his numbers come back to earth, people will think that his ice machine was unplugged.

Is "Ice" the street word for steroids?

Will an ice machine help my golf game?

Marty Wolfson ought to get with JC Guerrero. Between his magic shoes and JCG's ice machine of youth, they couldn't be beat.

I've known Dick for probably ten years, and have not talked to him about this particular piece. I will say this - I think there is more to this article being written in this way than first meets the eye.
|
Whatever the reason I hope it was worth losing his credability over. Maybe not to you who knows him personally but he has certainly lost it to me and most likely most of the public.

Which does make some sense, if you read the article. Either the writer is a complete moron, or his article is dripping with ironic sarcasm. |

This article has to be tounge in cheek. No way does anyone who has been around the game for more than 10 racing days believe this trainer is legitimate.
It really is sad that scumbags like this trainer are allowed to completely fleece the other trainers and public on a daily basis and are brazen enough to act like they are just better than everyone else. I could care less overall but just once in my life I would love to see the FBI come down on someone like this. I can't think of someone more deserving of prison. Sadly, I just don't think this crap hits the radar screen of those that can put bite into this issue. These trainers will be allowed to work their "ice magic" daily at the expense of other less fortunate or honest horseman. |
After reading this again I have a hard time saying this article was written tongue in cheek. Please show me a single line that could be construed as such?

Do you know Dick Jerardi, Chuck? Seriously - half of everything he says is tongue-in-cheek. This line above would be from someone who knows NOTHING about racing, writing about it. Jerardi knows how foolish this sounds when he writes it. "This being the race track, there are more than a few theories." " 'There is no miracle drug,' Guerrero assured. 'They test too much.' Whatever it is, Carlos Guerrero has figured it out. It is definitely his time." Here's the bottom line - this (seems to me to be) an article to get all the public comment out there on Guerrero. Let the insinuations be what they are, and then get all Guerrero's comments on the record...and we'll see what happens in the future. |

I've read Jerardi for years and generally think he's pretty sharp but this is an odd piece. Remember, he may be a tongue in cheek kind of guy to those who know him but he's writing this article not for "insiders" but for the general sports fan in a major newspaper.
It seems odd that he'd put him name on this if it were tongue in cheek, knowing that the huge bulk of his readership (including loyal racing fans and bettors) DON'T know that he's "that type." If I read Indian Charlie, I know what I'm getting but from Jerardi I expect straight dope. |

Jerardi cast a vote for Guerrero in last years Eclipse award voting.
So said the spreadsheet someone posted of turf writers and who they voted for. |
Maybe ice is Jamie Ness' secret.
|
A member of DT just completed a cursory examination of Guerreros barn a few minutes ago and was unable to locate the vaunted ice machine. I guess the machine that bears the magical ice is in a secret location?
|
Isnt Jerardi on the Parx payroll? He used to do that weekly show with Keith Jones recapping past weeks races and touting upcoming events.
Think I will have to flood the Daily News Live message box next time hes on. |

Damn, Jerardi is right. Guerrero is so smart he has even been able to make the magic ice machine invisible.

Juan Carlos Guerrero, leading trainer at Parx Racing, performed an act of heroism July 18 when he pulled eight people from an overturned minivan on busy Interstate 95 near the Benjamin Franklin Bridge in Philadelphia. Guerrero, who sits atop the Parx trainer standings with 88 wins, 38 more than nearest rival Phil Aristone, was driving to the Bensalem Township, Pa., racetrack at about 6:45 a.m. EDT from his home in New Jersey when he saw the minivan swerve to avoid another car, flip over, and careen into the guardrail, coming to rest on its roof. Though traffic slowed, nobody was pulling over to help. Read more: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/64130/parx-trainer-helps-rescue-accident-victims |

Interesting that he was 25 minutes away from the track at 6:45 considering he clocks everyone's horses every day? Maybe he has secret camera's hidden in the secret ice machine? He could have at least offered the victims a magical ice bath to heal their injuries. |
