Plum Pretty Out Of Goose

Baffert just posted this to the Twitterverse...

"Plum pretty not running in Mother Goose. Slight temperature this morning. Bug going around barn. Shame. She worked awesome yesterday."

Calzone Lord 06-20-2011 02:52 PM

Along with the Oaks winner - Black Eyed Susan winner Royal Delta is also out.

NTamm1215 06-22-2011 02:52 PM

Apparently the fever wasn't very bad. She's entered in the Hollywood Oaks on Saturday.

This move takes the cake.

Danthebluegrassman----but once again, the clueless media eats up the silver haired snake.

I'd like to ask this question. Is it reasonable to believe that maybe the bug wasn't that serious but he thought that traveling while recovering from it wouldn't have been the best way to get over it?

That's a fair question. It's quite a bit less likely than him being disingenuous in making something up because he didn't want to ship.

That's reasonable.

If you think there ever was a "bug" in the first place.

what would lead you to believe there wasn't?

Alan07 06-22-2011 05:58 PM

She wouldn't have won in NY.

King Glorious 06-22-2011 06:01 PM

You never know. It's always dangerous to believing anything these guys say. If it had been some other guy, Shirreffs for example, I'd think it was an excuse but Baffert's never been shy about shipping and regularly ships to NY and there was no monster horse there that I could see frightening him off. I'd give Baffert the benefit of the doubt as far as believing him in this situation.

She won the KY Oaks... I am pretty sure this is a harder race to win than the Mother Goose, isn't it?

She's entered to race.

Upon further review of the fields in both Mother Goose and the Hol Oaks, it appears to me that the Hol Oaks is a tougher field.

how do you know she won't scratch saturday from the Hol race? wouldn't you rather scratch close to home if the horse wasn't right than to ship across the country and not run?

I'd rather not enter any race if the horse wasn't right.

Got me there.

Hypothetically speaking of course, if a trainer has a top ranked horse, and says for weeks that such horse is running in one of a certain track's races, it can make it more difficult to assemble competition for said top horse. If said horse is withdrawn one day before the race is drawn, there is not necessarily enough time to assemble the same field had said horse never been pointing to the race in the first place. While this happens, as horses are susceptible to all sorts of problems that can prevent them from racing as scheduled, it can, and does, have a potentially unnecessary negative effect on certain races.

Hypothetically speaking of course.

I find it shocking that Baffert would pull a dick move of any sort.

It seemed like he was going to run a few during Belmont week that never went either.

Don't spend that $4.20 in one place. Spread it out a bit.

Buster's Ready would have beaten Plum Pretty a lot more easily than Zazu.

Are you really pining away for a pat on the back about possibly calling the upset on a very overrated horse that might or might not have just had a fever?

You are so awesome!!!

Indian Charlie 06-26-2011 02:05 AM

I detect a conspiracy here lately to give me a headache.

This is your response? Good thing they let you back, the board really missed contributions like this.

Come on...he maybe called a minor upset in a virtual match race. How can you not be impressed by foresight like that?

Duvalier 06-26-2011 07:38 AM
