nfl draft

and, once again, carolina blows a pick on a qb...

cam newton. lol i wonder what's going thru clausens mind right now??

philcski 04-28-2011 07:14 PM

Bust written all over him imo. Hopefully Buffalo gets Peterson...

keithting 04-28-2011 07:51 PM

Nice pick by Titans !!! I'm a Jake Locker stocker too !!!

slotdirt 04-28-2011 08:28 PM

Back to back picks pretty much show you where two NFC North organizations go. Vikes pick Christian Ponder a round earlier than he was going to be taken, and the Lions land the best talent on the board and will have the best defensive line in football next year. Not as awful a time to be a Lions fan as usual.

That was one of the worst picks I've ever seen. Horrible. He sucks.

If Stafford can stay healthy the Lions will win the Super Bowl in 5 years or less

I kind of disagree, they are stuck in the same divison with that team from Green Bay and they are pretty damn good.
I think the Lions have turned the corner and the playoffs are in their near future, but I would take the over 5 years for the Super Bowl bet.

You're buggin'. Playoffs, yes, Super Bowl, no.

I think Prince was a nice steal at 19 for the Jints, Matt.

Good first round for the Saints. With the selection of Ingram, the writing is on the wall for Reggie Bush.

Why so? Bush is not an every down back. This won't affect his role one bit

slotdirt 04-29-2011 05:53 AM

Bush's contract is massive for what he brings to the table. I think a lot of folks expect him to be out once things return to the normal in the NFL.

I'm not going as far as Scavs, but NFC North quarterbacks should be getting hit a lot over the next few seasons.

Ponder was just a pathetic pick for the Vikings, especially when one considers they probably could have had him in round two.

That's what I was thinking. Only thing I could think of is that they panicked after 3 QB's were gone early.

I'm a diehard Lions fan, and I can't be that optimistic. I would take a couple of wins in the playoffs over the next few years.

After the crap I've had to endure the past 10-12 years, I'm willing to be patient. :D

slotdirt 04-29-2011 08:47 AM

And none of that is to say I don't think Ponder could be a decent enough NFL player, because he very well could, it's just that taking him at 12th provided very little, if any, value to the Minnesota Vikings.

booner 04-29-2011 09:26 AM

Same here. Being a Seminole fan, I followed him throughout college and think he can be a solid NFL QB if he can escape the injury bug that has bitten him the last 2 years. Having Peterson in the backfield will help ease his development somewhat. But taking him at 12 was puzzling.

And what about the Titans taking Locker with the 8th pick? Can't wait to see here from some of the Titans fans. I don't think they will be very happy.......

slotdirt 04-29-2011 09:34 AM

I think Locker is going to be fine. How many 6'3" QB's can run 4.5 40's or whatever Locker did at the combine? His UW teams absolutely stunk, and he still held his own for the most part. I think he'll be fine.

Yeah, I agree Joey. I wasn't sure which way they were going to go. There has been so much talk about them starting to rebulid the line, not to mention about needing linebacker help. But they definitely could have used the help in the secondary (Arron Ross has been a bust) especially with all the young talented WR's in their division. I think he was the best player on the board at the time and was the right pick.

slotdirt 04-29-2011 10:06 AM

I just don't see Cam Newton warranting the #1 pick. Time will tell, but he seems more likely to be an Akili Smith than a Daunte Culpepper, using the 1999 draft example.

mclem0822 04-29-2011 10:07 AM

As for the Redskins.....

I think Kerrigan could be a nice addition opposite Arakpo, which should get his totals up which is a positive. Kerrigan causes a lot of turnovers, hopefully he'll bring that to his pro game as well. Instead of reaching for a QB they trade down, got 2 picks in Rd 2, and can address other team needs. This team is NOT one player of need away, so the extra pick is another plus in my opinion. Let's see what they do tonight in Rd 2 hopefully get another O lineman, then perhaps a young QB to groom behind whoever they decide to start.

dalakhani 04-29-2011 11:47 AM

I like the fact that the Redskins didn't take any of those QB's. Was there anyone in there that looked like the next coming besides Newton who really could be any kind? Before I get lambasted, I am not saying Newton will be anything, I am just saying he has the arm, size and speed and will certainly get the chance.

How about an offensive lineman? They could have taken pouncey or even traded up and gotten that kid from USC.

Bush is not dependable. He is injured too often, and when he is in the game, he makes more than his fair share of mistakes, especially considering how well he is paid. The Saints can function just as well with Pierre Thomas and Chris Ivory in the backfield.

Bush is apparently not very happy with the selection of Ingram. He tweeted last night. "it's been fun New Orleans."

Gotta love Twitter. You can put your foot in your mouth in nanoseconds.. Twitter and alcohol are a deadly combination for celebs.

MaTH716 04-29-2011 02:07 PM

It's funny, remember how much crap the Texans took for passing on him?

Roddy White's tweets didn't make him sound too happy about the Falcons mortgaging the draft for Julio Jones, either.

I think you guys got a steal with that Temple guy. He will be a beast under Rex. I'm kinda jealous eventhough I'm thrilled with the Eagles pick. We needed O-line help more than any other position. CB is a close second but hopefully we get somebody good in FA.

Yeah, I hope so. I wanted a more traditional pass rusher, but a close second for me was getting younger on the DL. Rex can line Wilkerson up all over. He's a little raw, but he's got the potential to be a beast. Would love to see us trade back into the second round to snag Ayers or Reed or Moch.
