Why do I keep getting sucked into Elite Alex? It will surely happen again in a couple of days.

Oaklawnfan 04-13-2011 01:28 PM

I was the same way with Golden Yank a couple of years ago.:zz:

He'll have no excuses this time, as he finally drew inside.
If Borel doesn't take him back too much (plus he adds blinkers), he should be able to track the Factor and work out a decent trip.

Why are Caleb's Posse and Alternation coupled this race, and they weren't in the Rebel? Is it because of the field size?

Yes. You can't have more than 12 betting interests in Arkansas. If they couple those two it keeps them from having to use a mutuel field. Someone should let them know it's 2011.

That's what I figured. Is that morning line for the race out yet?
I'll guess the Factor is listed around 9-5 as the favorite, and will probably be bet down to close to even money by post time.

EDIT: I see that they made the Factor 7-5, which seems realistic.

arizonadave 04-13-2011 06:45 PM

I still like Archarcharch in the Arkansas Derby.

Habersham000 04-13-2011 08:16 PM

I can't wait to see The Factor in this race....maybe Dance City might try him on the front end???? I am really interested to see how The Factor does in the stretch....I am hoping he is the real deal.

i have to drive half an hour to buy beer-and you expect them to be current with betting??? ;)

I have to drive 90 minutes to lay down a bet on a race, but plenty of ice cold beer all the way.

lemoncrush 04-14-2011 03:05 PM

Does anyone find it odd that Oaklawn's late pk 4 on Saturday is races 9-12?

Instead of having it start with the Instant Racing stakes start and end with the Arkansas Derby, they're including the goofy end-of-the-meet marathon race. At least that's what DRF shows.

hockey2315 04-14-2011 03:41 PM

Woodbine always does the same thing. . . very frustrating.

While The Factor is obviously the most likely winner, if the entry is around that 10/1 ML I find them to be an interesting option here.

somerfrost 04-15-2011 02:52 PM

Right now, I only see two horses that I could back to win the Derby running this weekend....The Factor and Archarcharch, I think Elite Alex remains a threat to finish in the money. Might (probably will) change my mind but that how it looks to me right now.

Mike 04-15-2011 10:46 PM

If I might give a heads up for the 10th race(an oc $50,000 n2x) Bluegrass Bull is 20-1 ml. He's beaten Swift Warrior on Calder turf, Master Dunker on Calder dirt, and come in 3rd at OP to Alternation and Dreaminofthewin as well as 3rd to Caleb's Posse and Dreaminofthewin

Stopped in his last race at 7-2

Seems like a live longshot

Merlinsky 04-16-2011 05:37 PM

Is there any kind of online radio coverage of the Arkansas Derby? Horseracingradio.net seems determined to make my ears bleed with whatever horrible quasi-country music is playing. "I love little baby ducks"? What kind of lyric is that?

I gathered there's no free video feed. DRF's got nothing, no NTRA Live coverage. Oh well. On a side note, do you have to live in Brigadoon to have heard of NBC's Versus channel? Guess I don't get to see the Kentucky Oaks live this year. On the plus side, I don't have to look at the reality show "stars" on the red (pink?) carpet.

Try this:

http://espn.go.com/horse/liveracing08.html

I don't know how good it is but it's free live video.

It's saying it's not available right now. The feed is through twinspires.com right? My state doesn't allow online gambling. I assume that's why I can't see it (unless I'm just missing something). Thanks for trying to help, though. :)

I just tried it and it is working. You just have to scroll down to find Oaklawn underneath where it says tracks...it's toward the left of the video screen.

I did, but now the video screen's blank.

I guess it's messed up then because it worked for me. Maybe it is something with your state not allowing it...that sucks.

Yeah, the reservation gets a Harrah's, but the rest of us have to get our jollies from the MegaMillions and Powerball. I get that they decide they have to protect us from the big bad wagering monster, but for the love of pete, can we not see the racing feeds from gambling websites? Lead us not unto temptation, I guess. They'd sooner allow you to buy alcohol all day on Sunday. I hate to point out the obvious, but some people get it on a Saturday night and--the nerve--drink it during church hours no matter what laws you pass on the time they can buy it.

Archarcharch holds off Nehro by a head for those who couldn't watch. The Factor a non-factor.

And Terry Wallace gets the nod for Worst call in the history of horse racing.

golfer 04-16-2011 06:28 PM

And for those who couldn't hear, that had to be the worst race call ever. Sorry, but we would have been better served with simple silence.

That was a disgrace. If you can't call the Arkansas Derby without several 5-second pauses, what the hell are you doing announcing at Oaklawn?

i think he has eye issues, always on the backside and then he can't regain his train of thought.

guessing this is his last year.....

There were several periods of dead air in that race when he said nothing at all.

NTamm1215 04-16-2011 06:31 PM

I don't have a tremendous amount of racecalling experience, but you don't look at saddle cloths. Ever. The call was disgraceful.

Now The Factor can go back to sprinting and the 3YOs are further proving that they're horrible.

randallscott35 04-16-2011 06:33 PM

UNCLE MO!!!!!!!!!! the new fave

Port Conway Lane 04-16-2011 06:37 PM

In the backstretch...."The factor's been taken to the outside in third.......and now moving up between horses...........that's JW Blue"....JW Blue was near the rear of the pack when he made that call.

outofthebox 04-16-2011 06:38 PM

Real happy for Jon Court and Jinks Fires...Living the dream. That said, how in the world do you handicap this years Derby. Will the favorite be under 5-1? I was cringing during the race listening to Wallace.

Thanks. I guess with the race call going the way it did, it's probably a good thing that I didn't have to hear it. Maybe Archarcharch's name will grow on Haskin. What happened with The Factor? Did he not make the lead, and it hit the fan after that?
