Terry Wallace
I didn't search for a duplicate thread...
Race 8 Oaklawn.. How can he not see Paisano Creek closing in a fast-paced race until 50 yards from the finish? Is he blind? |

He is running on fumes.
|
My guess is that he has some serious dirt on Charles Cella.
|
The guy has the same "illness" that beset Judge Judy and the Anchor lady on the Academy Awards...All of a sudden they start speaking in tongues!!!
Wallace is God-awful...just God-awful... |

This is the first year there's a big change in everything Terry has done since the begining of time at Oaklawn. He doesn't do a weekly radio show anymore. He gets a day off every now and then and I imagine his retirement is at hand. At least from his duties at Oaklawn are concerned. Just about everyone considers Terry a friend and that Oaklawn wouldn't be the same without him. Oaklawn is changing and hopefully for the better. Do you think Vic Stauffer would consider a move to the boyhood home of Bubba?
|
Won't be long...Chris Kotulak will be calling them into the short stretch of the mile race...:D
|
That really had to be one of the worst called races in the history of the sport today. He didn't get through the entire field once during the whole race. He mentioned the fifth place horse once after the opening quarter and that was after a second or two pause and then after the wire. If your horse ran sixth the whole way, then he never got a call. It was so bad that you almost have to feel bad for the guy. I think it's finally time for him to hang up the binoculars.
|
Ya I've never heard a call like that. I felt bad for him too.
|
I don't feel sorry for him. Can someone post a race from long ago when he was good? No, you can't because he was never good.
|
It is time to move Terry into a front office job or give him a watch, he's done enough!!
|
I would never begin to try race calling - its a real art
but gotta agree that it is time all he needed to do was throw in a "gaining ground" to be the all time worst |

That, or he was stoned. |

Sad. Very sad. I am an Oaklawn fan through and through. And Terry Wallace is Oaklawn.
I believe TW would have stepped aside before this year but has some personal difficulties that forced him to remain. Hopefully, a reorganization will occur before next meet and he will move to a public relations position where he can better serve a place he truly loves. |

theyguy at Keenland who is also very good, sucks this meet for some reason his stretch calls are horrible like Mike Battaglia horrible

Wow...just watched the replay. That was awful. And to think people give Grunder a hard time.
|
Honestly, that was poor. I kept thinking my audio was kicking out until I came on here and saw everyone's reactions.
|
I was watching the stream of the Arkansas Derby and I thought the feed was screwed up because of all the gaps in the call.
|
Just watched it. Obviously it was not good, but it wasn't nearly as bad as I had expected given the comments here. Really no worse than a typical race call from him.
|
That was unbelievable. I actually got up in the first of those silences to see if my headphones' plug had fallen out.

Sounds like they'll have to drag him out kicking and screaming. Wallace wrote this on his blog on Tuesday:
"There is no retirement imminent for me. I've had to call the races with a broken wrist this year and it shocks some of the fans to see me call the races and walk around with a cast on my hand. But truthfully that has been no problem and I am just like so many of you--hating to see this come to an end. Oaklawn racing is such a wonderful experience. But for all of us who are older, everything moves faster. There is really an acceleration of life as you are on the downhill side. Although I am not planning a retirement, I will be going on vacation to England and France for, among other things, the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in late September and early October. I've mentioned it before. People can join up with our group, if they choose. It's not cheap, but it's the trip of a lifetime. If you're interested, you still have time to contact me at Oaklawn to join the group." http://www.oaklawn.com/blogs/post/20.../turning-home/ |
Crap.

Grunder would probably be like Darby Creek Road as to Wallace & Battaglia's Affirmed and Alydar. |

I hope when he goes over the pond on his vacation, they let Wallace call one of those 25 horse races......as a special "guest" announcer. I would pay to see it. Battaglia is the worst announcer, hands down. Oaklawn should do the players a favor and get some HD feed or trackus like Keeneland has, the resolution is so sharp we wouldnt have to rely on Wallace at all.

What does Kurt Becker do the 10 months a year when the botique is closed?
