I love Country Music....
Used to try to beat Silent Witness with him before he rounded out of form after Cruz made him chase his stable-mate so many times. I think he will round back in and pop a win off at good odds pretty soon. |
Help!
Who are these horses?
I'm going to need to use a lifeline on this one! |

Billet Express won the Chairman's Sprint Prize, Helene (he's a he) won the Macau Trophy. Ummm..... The Duke, I believe won the trial prior to the Sha Tin Mile..... Dave's Best..... very nice horse who (along with BE and The Duke) should be favored here. He's probably the best horse in the field. My pick, Regency Horse, showed some flashes of brilliance earlier in the year..... Able Prince pulled off a couple of upsets last Fall but really had a mediocre spring..... same with Planet Ruler. Anyway, it's a nice group..... |
It's about time!
From South China Morning Post... Wednesday, September 6, 2006 Champions Mile joins Group One company MURRAY BELL Hong Kong now has six races of international Group One status following the elevation of the Champions Mile to the sport's ultimate level of recognition. The Champions Mile was a HK$4.5 million, domestic Group One event until the creation of the Asian Mile Challenge in 2005, which earned it a HK$3.5 million promotion to a total value of HK$8 million, in keeping with the prestige of the new series. After two runnings as a HK$8 million race, both of which have been won by Bullish Luck, the International Cataloguing Standards Committee has agreed to the promotion of the Champions Mile to international Group One status. Hong Kong's other five international Group Ones are the four features of the Cathay Pacific International Races (the Hong Kong Sprint, Mile, Cup and Vase) and the Audemars Piguet Queen Elizabeth II Cup. The Jockey Club hosts another eight domestic Group Ones on top of the six internationals, giving it 14 in total. Until now, the Champions Mile - the third of four legs of the Asian Mile Challenge (AMC), the world's richest racing series worth a combined US$12.6 million including bonuses - was the only AMC leg not to enjoy international Group One status. "Anything that enhances the prestige and quality of one of our most important races is terrific news and clearly the Asian Mile Challenge will also benefit from this upgrade," said the club's executive director of racing, Winfried Engelbrecht-Bresges. "Having each one of our international events at the highest class also strengthens Hong Kong's role as a one of racing's global leaders," he added. This season's Champions Mile will he staged on April 29 at Sha Tin. |

* * * As an aside, Space Shuttle, a mediocre boy who I kinda liked, was retired yesterday following the barrier trials. |
Damnit. I just watched the barrier trials to see his final run. Space Shuttle reared up at the start (inside the gate).
His name and records were removed..... I hope he's still with us. Poor baby. |
Lucky you..... Prebble on Country Music.

I've asked a friend on the South China Morning Post to please look into it so will post if I hear anything. Good luck with Tiber..... I know nothing about pedigree so sorry i can't be of any help. Oh, and i agree on the name. I went to look up HK name changes to check as so many of them are given new names. He's already been deleted..... not a good feeling. |

SCMP trackwork.....
RACE ONE, RATED 40-20 (C5), 1,400 METRES Danzigmountain has done plenty of work and looked sharp coming down the back straight on turf on Monday over 800m. Brave Commander looks much stronger and his final 400m breeze-up on Thursday could not be faulted. Ball of Fire caught the eye in an AWT trial last Friday and again in his final gallop over 400m on Friday. Globe River's AWT trial was ordinary but his work has been sound and he looks the part. Master Able had a quiet trial last Saturday and looks very well. RACE TWO, RATED 40-20 (C5), 1,200 METRES The surprising thing, when you watch Wyndam Plenty gallop, is that he's even in C5. His work continues to be strong and he'll run boldly. Ambition's work has been of winning standard and he looked the part in his final set piece under Gerald Mosse. Faster Faster has done some nice pieces of work including a sharp riverside 800m 10 days ago. Smarty has breezed up strongly over 400m on two occasions this week. Felix Coetzee has been putting a lot of work into Star Prodigy and the gelding seems to be enjoying the association. RACE THREE, RATED 60-40 (C4), 1,200 METRES Good View Success may find this a bit short but the gelding has been working a treat and looks ready to run a race. Expeditious trialled poorly but his final gallop on Thursday was sharp. The main query is that he's a colt and still quite gross. Smart youngster Always Giggle has done a power of work to fit him for this and his final riverside being very nice. Top Top Light trialled strongly for Felix Coetzee and the jockey was again on board for a pleasing final gallop. Deminer has galloped well, but not trialled. RACE FOUR, RATED 120-95 (C1), 1,200 METRES A difficult race. Billet Express is a galloping talent and all his work has been of the highest order. Dave's Best has done a power of work and his action has been sound - chance of an upset. Able Prince is flying - he looks fit and his action has been perfect. Country Music has been a big improver, compared to last season, and has worked well in preparation for this. Tiber is another renowned fresh horse who has again worked strongly. Regency Horse  :) and Fokine trialled well against each other and continued to work strongly. Town Of Fionn looks like finding some form again, and Figures was impressive at the trials. RACE FIVE, RATED 60-40 (C4), 1,600 METRES Dare To Win has had a full preparation, which he completed with a strong riverside on Thursday with C2 sprinter Down Town. Quality-Quality has had two trials, taken quietly on the first occasion and showed good finishing speed on the second. Flying Bishop trialled strongly and his subsequent work has continued in the same vein. Douglas Whyte has been working with My Lanson and the chestnut has responded positively to the master's touch. Super Ideal has had a change of stable and trialled nicely last Saturday night on turf. RACE SIX, RATED 60-40 (C4), 1,400 METRES Conqueror looked a bit one-paced in his trial but looked sharper in a sprint down the back stretch on turf, Monday, under Simon Yim. Sevens Heaven ran second in a trial and his subsequent work has pleased as well. Fat Dragon has done plenty of work, most of it with Douglas Whyte on board, and trainer Me Tsui has him in great order. Century Super Star was a highlight winner of the turf trials at Sha Tin last Saturday night. RACE SEVEN, RATED 95-75 (C2), 1,200 METRES Whatever ailed Fifty Fifty last season, it seems to be behind him now judging by his strong trial win on Saturday night. He also pleased in his final gallop. Down Town looked to be going half pace in his final workout down the riverside, Thursday, and can go on from where he left off. Kindacross had a nice quiet trial and then flew at the finish of his Thursday gallop. Har Har Charms had his final gallop on Wednesday under trainer John Size and went well. He looks in superb condition. RACE EIGHT, RATED 80-60 (C3), 1,400 METRES Gallant Knight seems to be going well and went to the line strongly in winning his trial on August 25. Disguise has been "flying" in his work and looks significantly stronger than when last in training. Lucky Money went terribly in his trial but beware: his subsequent work has been much better. Regal Thrills seems to be going well and went down the back straight on turf nicely, Monday, under Gerald Mosse. Move It has run well back in two trials but they could be deceptive as he wasn't asked a question on either occasion. RACE NINE, RATED 75-60 (C3), 1,200 METRES King Encosta was given an easy time to the line in his trial and has been improved by three subsequent gallops. Ocean Tranquil had the blinkers on and fairly roared down the back straight on Monday over 800m. Victory Code trialled nicely and has looked the part in subsequent work, with a healthy appearance. Lucky Stravinsky was impressive in his turf gallop down the back straight on Monday. Plezayre was unexpectedly brilliant in his final gallop on Thursday. RACE TEN, RATED 100-80 (C2), 1,400 METRES Good Profit's trial last Saturday was only fair but his Thursday gallop was more like his true standard. Winning Dragon is a proven fresh horse and has come along very nicely in the last couple of weeks. Gallant Lion is a gifted galloper and he looks very well - plenty to like about his recent trials and gallops. Supreme Class had a quiet trial but has been improved by it and three subsequent gallops. Sir Ernesto is very fit and Douglas Whyte has been a regular partner in the mornings. |

I pissed away $200 on Hong Kong tonight....
bad taste in my mouth, but I'll get over it. Had the Takeover Target exacta a couple of times though.... And the 4/11 exacta in race 5 from Hong Kong. Pissed every cent away, I am a sucker for the asian races. |

Epilogue...
Race: 4 (004) THE HKSAR CHIEF EXECUTIVE'S CUP (HANDICAP) Race Class 1 1200 m Prior to being presented at the saddling stalls, THE DUKE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said in his opinion the horse was lame in the left front leg. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of THE DUKE. Before being allowed to race again, THE DUKE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the field was loaded, PLANET RULER became fractious, causing M Odendaal to be dislodged. M Odendaal was passed as fit to fulfil his riding engagement. While M Odendaal was being inspected by the Club's medical officer, COUNTRY MUSIC became fractious and endeavoured to break through underneath the front gates of its stall. COUNTRY MUSIC was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion the horse was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of COUNTRY MUSIC. Before being allowed to race again, COUNTRY MUSIC will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Shortly after the start, PLANET RULER was steadied when crowded for room between FIGURES and FOKINE which shifted in slightly. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, HIGH INTELLIGENT lost ground after getting its head on the side and hanging in away from TOWN OF FIONN. After the 800 Metres, FIGURES and REGENCY HORSE raced wide and without cover. At the 150 Metres, DAVE'S BEST, which was closing the race off strongly, was steadied and shifted to the outside of ABLE PRINCE to continue going forward. TIBER and FIGURES were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TIBER after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, FIGURES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was noted to be making an abnormal breathing noise and had a displacement of the soft palate. TOWN OF FIONN and REGENCY HORSE were sent for sampling. * * * * * Race 8 - BIG WAVE BAY HANDICAP Wednesday, September 13, 2006, Happy Valley, 22:50 Turf ,"A" Course ,1000m Prize Money: $750,000.00, Rating: 80-60, Race Class: 3 Horse No. Colour Horse Wt.
