UPDATES! 2yo's developing well..

Just off the phone with Woody Payne at the Ingleside Training in Virginia, and the reports on the 2 year olds are generally excellent.

MY PAL OF PALS (City Zip) & TOY CANNON (Thunder Gulch) continue to be the most forward of the 4 New York bred colts, with all physical development progressing without a hitch, and both virtually in full training mode. Woody says the pair look like adults compared to most of the other juvies around the farm, and they will almost certainly be the first to come north to Belmont to begin racetrack careers.

SPONDULIX (Rockport Harbor) is next in terms of maturation, and is paused from full training for a couple of weeks having just undergone a growth spurt. Woody, who has a 3yo Rockport Harbor with Ferris Allen at Laurel, says our Rocky reminds him of that one a great deal, (recently 2nd in his debut), and expects him to fill out nicely with one more period of physical development yet to come.

CORYBANT (Johannesburg) is the least developed of the group, maturing slowly and trailing the others in training. He will be 'late' as they say...

We should have new photos of the boys in the next couple of weeks, and anyone planning to be through Virginia (Montpelier Station) should try andvisit the famed plantation. ("James Madison's Montpelier")

And of course anyone interested in taking part in the 2011 Dee Tee colts should drop me an Email at tpkasept@yahoo.com for more information!

Glad to hear they're doing well. I'm anxious to see them at Belmont and Saratoga this year!

A little pedigree update today. My Pal of Pals' older half sister, Loyal Shadow, got through her NY bred 2 other than condition today winning the 7th at Belmont. She now has earnings of $120k. Filly is a hard trying tough as nails running SOB..let's hope little bro carries that on!

Congrats pgiaco. Very nice close, very very nice price

keithting 05-07-2011 08:15 PM

Congrads Paul - nice win today by Loyal Shadow.....

Kasept 05-14-2011 12:15 PM

Toy Cannon's sister Lakeside Chapel today in the Belmont 6th..

I'd encourage those interested in the 2yo's to make their move sooner than later...

Seeking Info

Steve,

Any news on the 2YO? I'm thinking forward to the next few months and hope that a trip to NY is in the mix to see Toy Cannon's maiden run.

Are things progressing? I'm a newbie, so not sure of timing but I thought that these guys would start to see some race action this summer.

Am I right about that - if so, tell us what you know.

Thanks.

Well, we visited the two years olds!!! We had a great morning, Woody and the people at Ingleside could not have been more welcoming. I highly encourage everyone to go visit!!! I put up some pics of all of the two year olds on the Facebook page. I even got to watch Toy Cannon and My Pal Of Pals gallop, they look good!!!

He told us a lot about each one of the boys, too much to get into one post. If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.

Thanks again.

Big Blue-Woody said that My Pal of Pals is almost race-ready. Toy Cannon, he said, should be ready to go by fall. Spondulix and Corybant are going to be a minute, still growing.

Thanks a lot for the update and photos, Coup! They all look great, but I especially like Spondulix. :{>:

Coup Verville 05-31-2011 07:13 PM

Puddle Jumper- I will tell you that Spondulix is FULL of personality. He was the first one of all the boys that we saw. The others are in the back row of stalls, so when we walked in, he was right there. He's a little thing, but Woody says that he still has a lot of maturing to do. He's also a cribber (not that it has any relevance, just an observation!!). We didn't get to see him train, just messed with him at the stall. He's very personable, but full of the devil at the same time!!! After the other two got done training, Woody had the groom bring he and Corybant out just so we could get the pictures. Again, can't say enough about how great Woody and his people were.

Cribbing can be a tough habit to break. But since he's still maturing, I'm sure they'll break him of it. I know that all of the boys are in good hands.

Thanks for letting me know more about him!

First 2YO to head north?

Heard Steve mention on Wed's show (Andy Serling segment) that "one of the 2YO's down in VA" would be heading north soon... I'm assuming that's Toy Cannon?

How cool would it be to get Jim Wynn (former MLB All-Star who played from 1963-1977, and nicknamed "Toy Cannon") to come to his namesake's first race?

We should find out a way to get in touch with Mr. Wynn to let him know Dee Tee has a horse named after him! I just might check into that.

Go Cuse!

Lava 07-07-2011 10:01 PM

I think it is My Pal Of Pals. Are you Cuse Fan from predictem

That's correct.. MY PAL OF PALS will come north directly to Saratoga rather than ship to Belmont and then a week or so later upstate. He will hopefully make a first career start during the meet.

TOY CANNON may come to Saratoga too to begin racetrack acclimation, but most likely won't debut until September at Belmont.

Nope. My Dad, my brother & I are new owners into Dee Tee (specifically, My Pal of Pals, so I was delighted to hear "Pal" is the one that might get a start at SAR).

We're all from Syracuse ("Where people in heaven go when they die") so by birthright, we are "Cuse Fans".

Ask him if he would consider a comeback...Astros now 30-60

TOY CANNON is at Belmont confounding Bill Mott and his staff. We talked in Louisville about him and Bill is getting frustrated. He says when Cannon comes out on track he turns heads and people ask him "Who is that?". He's 100% sound and looks fabulous but is driving riders crazy. He worked 5f in 1:05 the other day and nothing they try gets him to exert himself. They put blinkers on him and he rears up and wheels and refuses to even go to the track. Bill is thinking about gelding him, though he isn't studish, and taking him to Florida to continue trying to get him going. He's had Thunder Gulch colts before and says it's not totally unusual to have a problem like this with them. I think we can be confident that Mott will get him figured out..

CORYBANT (Johannesburg) just went 3f in :37.1 the other day at Ingleside, his 4th work in 6 weeks after having to pause with shins. He's a different horse as a gelding and Woody is very pleased with him. Should get to New York by beginning of the year. Is likely a turf runner, so he could start a couple times in late winter to be ready for the grass when it comes back around next April..

SPONDULIX (Rockport Harbor) is being left alone to grow and remains targeted for Spring of next year.
