I refuse to click on the link.

Hovdey was on the Moss payroll, right? Can we just confirm this?

Factual errors in the recap of Capt. Candyman Can's win, a grammatical error in the headline for the Donn and now a moron talking about a stallion being brought to a mare. The DRF is spectacular.

freddymo 02-10-2011 09:14 AM

Wonderful stuff thx Mr Krone.

I hope Zenyatta likes Bernardini maybe they should have a date night to make sure the Queen loves him.

Actually I would pay to watch Zenyatta in the Paddock with four or five healthy studs as they do what horses do. The horror on peoples faces when they see their queen mounted by stud after stud not giving a flyin fvck about who she beat her fans signs or her legacy.

Isnt that what we always hope for when horses retire that have thrilled us. The opportunity to live their live doing what horses do?

Theatrical 02-10-2011 10:27 AM

Seems to me the following part of the article was overlooked by some:

"Enough goofing around. There will be better and more practical ways in which horse racing can continue to benefit from the good will created by Secretariat, and more recently Zenyatta"

Danzig 02-10-2011 10:29 AM

i thought the article was mostly tongue in cheek...but i am also tired of the media frenzy as a whole.
i think her first offspring should be called 'hyperbole'.

Coach Pants 02-10-2011 10:35 AM

If you're in the horse media game it is wise to kiss up to Zenyatta. The mainstream needs a champion. Real or not.

So you would pay to watch a Horsie gang bang?
Are you from Alabama?

Tough season for Volunteer athletics.

oh there was nothing tongue in cheek about this article.... check out the author and his previous covering of Zenyatta.

One thing is sure though... I'm not going to waste my time ever reading an article by this author again. Zero credibility.

nothing?

What a procession it would be, Bernardini’s pathway strewn with flowers, schoolchildren set free for the day to wish him well, the Lexington Philharmonic deployed on one of the vast Lane’s End lawns playing a medley of Sting’s greatest hits as the lucky boy steps from his Darley van.

The tentative date for the Kentucky primary is May 22, which figures to be way too late for Zenyatta to bring her first foal into this world, especially if he/she is going to win the 2015 Triple Crown. Still, there will be plenty of opportunities for Presidential candidates to make a pilgrimage to Kentucky just to rub her beautifully bulging belly, for good luck.

the fact that he says 'enough goofing around' tells me he was just trying to have a bit of fun. some of his other stuff may be ridiculous, but i took much of this article to be a joke.

randallscott35 02-10-2011 12:07 PM

When these writers allow themselves to become part of the story, aka being in the winners circle as many do with their stories, it takes away all their credibility....They just don't get it.

But we all had hope for Haskin who sold out reality with his HOY pick.

I guess I just am missing all the benefit from the good will created by Secretariat and more recently Zenyatta.

i guess you are right... though with everything else this author has written about Zenyatta, its kind of a "boy cried wolf" situation!

That's your call.

It would be really nice if people read an entire article before passing judgment on the content. Because Jay Hovdey was the author, the guns were out in full force, BEFORE reading the entire article. Whether it's Jay Hovdey or whomever, it really doesn't matter. Passing judgment on an article that has not been read seems to be a popular internet pasttime.

Well I did read the entire piece and it is the usual drivel from Hovdey about his girlfriend. Because he used a tongue in cheek style doesn't mean that it isnt more of the same crap. And acting as though Zenyatta and Secretariat have created all this good will and positive benefit because a hundred drones came out to get a poster ignores the reality of what is happening in CA racing today.

Haven't had your coffee yet? You probably have a fairly good idea that Jay Hovdey will write something about the mare, so why do you read it? If you want to read about the sorry state of affairs that is California racing, there are other writers out there that would appeal to your interest. You know, someone you would probably agree with.

Why bother being concerned about the state of racing when you can wonder if Bernardini should van to lanes End and court the queen.Like the Queen gives a rats ass about which stud mounts her 1400lb ass? Mr Krone should have better things to do like straighten out Ms. krone's closet or do the bathrooms dont you think?

This isnt about a disagreement. It is about one of DRF's top columnists continued childlike obsession with a single horse and his feeling the need to play to the softheads that worship said horse. For $7 bucks an issue I try to read the entire paper, even the stupid articles.

prudery 02-11-2011 04:48 PM

I would suggest that those genuinely concerned with the state of racing channel their efforts and energies for such, rather than obsessing over an alleged childlike obsession over a single horse a columnist is perceived to have from your perspective .

Such a trivial issue should not swell bandwith , nor is it a choice between fixing racing and the appreciation of a racehorse--for anyone .

And those who for some reason feel the need to defend the writer (despite reams of evidence to the contrary) seem to be suffering from the same disease where anything uttered about their hero that isn't positively glowing is just plain wrong.

Cannon Shell 02-11-2011 10:10 PM

On the Secretariat facebook page this gem was posted tonight

In 2010, Zenyatta was a near miss for the Triple Crown. If Zenyatta and Secretariat were to race today, who would win?

Yeah Zenyatta just missed the Triple Crown last year. And yet I find the question even more ridiculous.

thats the whole point....do you think these guys are fools? ....they know some guy will cover his ears a say...."will it ever end?????" theres 999 things to write about at least a few have to stir the .......if you take any of it seriously....well....never mind.....

Left Bank 02-12-2011 02:04 PM

The Zenyatta nuts remind me of the people who think marijuana is the cure all for the health problems in the world.

eajinabi 02-12-2011 02:47 PM

I get most of the Zenyatta news from the people who truly hate her the most. Thanks for the post and continue the great work.

The obsession continues: Zenyatta and Bernardini: No romance in breeding season, but plenty of hope

Clip-Clop 02-14-2011 10:05 AM

There is quite a hill between the farms, not quite the Rockies, hope she performs.
