I guess Aqueduct is trying to sqeeze the card in (weather has been pretty crappy all day so far in central Jersey and downtown Manhattan), with anticipation of them probably canceling tomorrow.

from dave Grening

Offlee Cool, who was reported to have been lame in her right front foreleg after falling in the first race, was found to have fractued her right elbow and will be euthanized after the last race, according to NYRA officials.

So they let her suffer thought 8 races?? WTF is that.

I thought the same thing. I'm hoping that report is not accurate.

You dont think they made the horse comfortable? Why because tranquilizers are so expensive?

If it 'was found that she fractured her elbow', that means they had to take scans. In other words, she was being diagnosed. If she was presenting as simply lame as Grening wrote, she was likely not in any distress. Once there was a diagnosis, a decision was made.

I'm sure PETA will agree with you and not spin it to the masses any other way.

Why even waste your time? It's NYRA related. Somehow, someway they did something wrong in people's eyes.

It's unreal that people considered that vets would allow to be screaming in pain and not attend to them?

I don't think anyone thinks that... Just need to better understand the sequence of events as they unfold... If a horse is in severe distress from obviously irreparable injuries, they are going to be put down behind the screen, in the ambulance or back at the hospital or barn. If there is some diagnosis involved, it will take time to reach a decision. In some cases the owner needs to be reached and that can delay things. In other cases an insurance company needs to be reached to be made aware of circumstances and OK a horse being euthanised. It's another example of why too much info, too quickly disseminated, does no one any good.
