Rahm Emanuel not a resident

CHICAGO (WLS) - The Illinois Appellate Court has ruled that Rahm Emanuel should not be on the Chicago mayoral ballot.

In a 2-1 decision on Monday, the Illinois Appellate Court decided to take Emanuel's name off the ballot

That will get appealed. No reason he shouldn't be allowed to run.

I don't live in the city, but if I did I'd vote for Gery Chico. But Emanual still should be allowed on

Apparently the ballots will be printed w/o Emanuel's name on it starting today. If he makes it on via the IL supreme court they will be trashed and reprinted. Love to be the vendor hired for the printing. lol

I thought for sure he'd win his case 'the Chicago way' but perhaps Rham and the true power behind the scenes in IL, namely Mike Madigan and Jimmy DeLeo aren't as chummy with Rhambo anymore since a 'friend of their's' Tony R. went away to 'college'. After all we have a local court system that has fixed slam-dunk murder cases (for between 20K and 5K) on more than one or even three occasions and involving more than three judges. They have since come back and reversed only one of those trials. (The murderer was retried despite the double jeopardy law was found guilty and has since died, while serving his time, in prison) The judge in that particular case put one in his head after learning he was being called before a Grand Jury. A second judge died 2 months after being released from jail after completing his 189 month sentence at 82 or 83. Sometime I guess Karma does seem to work. We'll now see what she has in store for the North Shore Baby with the huge bank.

Just in the IL Supreme Court just stayed the Appellate Court's decison and Emanuel is at least going to be included in the first printing of the ballots. According to his lawyers. Early voting starts Monday. Chicago Politics at its best.

:D Hardly. "politics at its best" would be Emanuel not having any trouble staying on the ballet in the first place.

You don't have to endorse it to see how it did work for the average citizen (don't conflate the two). And I'm going back to the start of the first mayor Daley and before that.

I hate to agree but the Daley's were wonderful and cared about Chicago as if they owned it. Which in part they did. The city sucked under Harold Washington almost as much as under Jane Byrne (why he got elected) and the only reason Byrne got elected was a blizzard.

miraja2 01-25-2011 08:07 PM

I have no intention of voting for Emanuel (I'm leaning toward Miguel del Valle right now, even though he has no chance) but I absolutely think Rahm should be allowed on the ballot.

Maybe he is from Kenya via Illinois and Hawaii.

Just in the IL Supreme Court ruled in his favor and he'll be on the ballot.

dellinger63 01-27-2011 05:18 PM

LMAO The printing vendor is submitting that 400K ballots were printed in 90 mins. before news came of the Appellate's ruling to include him came thru. I'm not a printer but in 90 mins there are 5400 secs so that's printing 74 ballots per second? I call bullshiat! Chicago politics at it's best!

dellinger63 01-27-2011 06:44 PM

This is going to be a race they could make a movie about.

Emanuel perceived by many as a privileged white kid from one of the most expensive Chicago suburbs. A Chicago outsider. Puts education at the top of his platform yet won't commit to sending his children there. Has huge national political support and by far the largest bank but little if any aldermatic support. Teamsters also seem to be on board. The favorite 1/5

Carole Mosely Braun the only African American candidate. Former senator and New Zealand ambassador has spent her private years since accumulating debt (both personal and business) and mortgages. Something is goofy with her tax returns or she somehow sold out her senate pension to that need money now commercial. Four days ago she bashed Emanuel for raising 'outside money' and tonight she is in DC at a fund raiser and tomorrow will be in Atlanta (I believe) for another. Little if no shot and lucky to get the majority of the black vote that will be low. Live longshot if the race comes up biased. 9-1

Chico former head of chicago public schools and mayor Daley's chief of staff. Horse for the course angle. Favored by Chicago alderman and so far has the Fire Department's union as a backer. Wise guy's horse. 3-1

Miguel De Valle current City Clerk and former State Senator. SS to CC is a huge class drop and this guy who would likely be asked for papers if Chicago Police pulled him over and he spoke much less get any support. Huge outsider. 30-1

There's one more candidate but no one knows anything and a likely scratch.

The race is easy on paper as it's Emanuel's race to lose. But the city is a very different track than what Rham's been running on and his camp seems overconfident almost smug. I'm going with Chico in an upset. Besides to the average Joe in Chicago Mayor of Chicago Gary Chico sounds far better than Mayor of Chicago Rham Emanuel. Kind of like Richard or Ritchie Daley over Barack or Barackie Obama. :)

sorry DC dinner was last night and Friday it's New Orleans not Atlanta

Mayoral hopeful Carol Moseley Braun has needled rival Rahm Emanuel for going to Hollywood to rake in campaign cash. But, she’s apparently not above leaving town to do the same.

On Wednesday, Braun is scheduled to be in Washington D.C. for a fund-raiser sponsored by the Congressional Black Caucus. She’s also expected to be the honored guest at a luncheon fund-raiser hosted by the National Organization for Women, which has already endorsed her candidacy for mayor.

Braun is scheduled to return to Chicago for Thursday’s first mayoral debate, then travel to New Orleans for a Friday fund-raiser hosted by what campaign spokeswoman Renee Ferguson calls “a great big group of friends” she has in the Big Easy.

Kansas. Where his mom and grandma are from. The far right crazy wingnuts, the supporters of, "Don't add, don't spell" got it wrong. They heard it started with a "K", and Kenya is all they could think of.

They don't have the debate replay up on their website yet. But, they did have this (I love WGN Go Cubs!)

Goldfish Murdered in Suburban Home Break In

ARLINGTON HTS, Ill. —
After breaking into a home in Arlington Heights, burglars poisoned the family goldfish by pouring hot sauce, ketchup, mustard and spices into the fish tank.

Police say, upon returning home, the homeowners also found a number of missing possessions: a Nintendo game system, 30 games, CD player, 30 DVDs, a Daisy BB gun with extra BBs, jewelry and a 50-pound fire safe containing personal papers and pictures.

The burglary took place in the 2100 block of South Goebbert Road.

A total of three goldfish succumbed to their injuries.
