Shouldn't this race be a mile and three sixteenth? I thought that was more Evening Attire's cup o' tea.

Good luck to Arson Squad, a very cool old guy. :)

Oh I was gonna say shouldn't they be instructed to stand around momentarily after the gates open and then start running? :D

Very "cool old guy" to be sure, but it surprised me a little to see him as the 8/5 favorite on the ML given that several horses in the race are coming off nice wins over the inner. Personally I like Heart Butte the best here.

I wouldn't be taking Arson Squad at a short price in here at all.

More like a mile and 5/8ths. Evening Attire would have been a shoo-in if they had had the BC Marathon in his hay-day.

:D Did you see the 3-horse Ormonde S-G3 at Chester of a few years back? I think it was 2008. The pace horses scratched out, the 3 came out of the gate at little above a walking pace, nearly came to a standstill after cantering gently for several strides; took a half-furlong before one jock put his horse into a gallop and took the lead (they won, too).

my miss storm cat 01-14-2011 02:35 PM

 Well two of you guys seem to think I'm braindead or something and no, I wouldn't take him at that price. :D

To be clear I am not playing this race nor do I think he wins here...

I just like him a lot and wish him well. :) Always have a soft spot for the older boys...

Playing Flemington tonight and maaaybe Aus A as well... haven't looked at that yet. That might be it for me for the weekend or at least till Monday.

Ann... no I didn't see that one but if you can find a replay would love to watch it!

Perhaps they were attempting to honor him and that's why they ran that opening half mile in :51.67 .

Did they post the BSF for Ft. Hughes? This fig will be under review for a long time.

Winner was razor sharp. Pretty authoritative effort.

Doesn't make sense based on the rest of the day. They are apparently trying to re-time it.

Yup.. And apparently the timer is correct, so they appear to have cut the race out as a projection which is the only thing you can do when you get these kinds of clockings.

I dont get the process no matter how hard CJ tries to drill it thru my skull. The thought that a stakes horse that is well bred and on the improve is only premitted to improve X amount because the PP's say so is very arrogant. not that I doubt the skill or expertise of people like CJ and Beyer because I don't.

It's not that the winner didn't improve X amount... But when you simply computer or formula generate without any human logic involved, you then get also rans behind said winner improving proportionately and running outlandish numbers. Better to deduce that the track sped up to produce the anomoly time.

Freddy..

What don't you understand about figure-making in this arena? Is it preferable to call the effort a 120 and then revise it when it proves to be wrong after the field runs back? The track changed. It happens a lot.

Yup in the 18 minutes between the 7th and 8th the track changed and then reverted back 19 minutes later for the 9th. Who is the new NYRA super Chris Angel? I thought the previous guy everyone was thrilled with?

I realize tracks change who doesn't?

They will by changing the fig soon enough

NTamm1215 01-20-2011 08:46 AM

I'm far more inclined to believe that the timer malfunctioned then that Fort Hughes somehow ran on a track that was seconds faster than the one Stormandaprayer ran on 25 minutes before.

CJ hand timed it and feels the time is correct! I also would hope NYRA would have called attention to a timing error if indeed one had happened. They are the only ones bettors can count on to do the right thing by players.
