AZ Congresswoman in critical condition after shooting
 

Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Gifford (AZ) was shot at point-blank range at an event outside a Safeway. She is dead, along with several other people. A child was also hit.

The suspect (tackled by one of her staffers when he attempted to flee) other than he is mid-20's, white and clean-shaven.

Update: FOX is stating she's still alive but in critical condition. Prayers that this is true.

Horrible. I'm afraid we will see much more of this sort of thing.

to be fair it could have been 9/11 coverup, vaccine conspiracy, or trilateral commission. the actual weird obsession isn't all that important. it's not like the guy had any understanding of economics. it's just something he heard repeated.

That's the sad part. Just something he probably heard repeated over and over and over. Like Hitler said "Give me their brains til they are 12 years old, and they will be Nazis for life"

Now there is talk of a possible 2nd suspect.

The guy was nuts and won't be sleep walking anymore. Why he didn't just kill himself? Instead he took out a bunch of others including a kid and may he now RIH for eternity until then be the prison biatch he will be!

I agree that he has no understanding of economics, but seriously, there is something about these guys and the gold standard. Timothy McVeigh was all about it, too.

Sheriff Clarence Dupnik didn't pull any punches in the press conference:

“When you look at unbalanced people, how they respond to the vitriol that comes out of certain mouths about tearing down the government. The anger, the hatred, the bigotry that goes on in this country is getting to be outrageous. And, unfortunately, Arizona I think has become sort of the capital. We have become the Mecca for prejudice and bigotry."

Some one help me out here. How are Sarah Palin and the Tea Party to be blamed for this tragic event? I know Palin made the map showing where the people who voted yes to Obamacare lives. There is a certain time and place when politics has no business being brought up, yet it was yesterday after that coward killed and injured alot of people. Hopefully this coward gets the lethal injection he deserves and our taxpaying money wont be wasted on him spending the rest of his life in the funny farm.

I've never followed Sarah Palin around like she's some kind of know all, be all, end all solution to the country's political ills. But, I certainly don't think she meant her crosshairs image to mean death to those with whom she disagreed. How much hatred and vitriol has been heaped on her and her family?!~

Do I think such visual images or political rhetoric cause the actions of nutcases like this most recent one? Absolutely not. These people are so wrapped up in their own agenda, they don't care what anyone else says - not even the people who agree with them. They want the last word, they want the spotlight shone on them. This guy's bolt needed tightening on a daily basis. This guy sent out all kinds of warning signals, yet no one intervened. Our laws protect people like this. They're given a pass until they do something illegal. YET, people want to muzzle the media and take away free speech. I can't comprehend the double standard.

By far, nothing comes close to the hatred, vitriol, and violence of those times - the 60's. Perhaps the lessons learned have been forgotten.
