Retirements ~ 2011
My Will...
"My Will retired gracefully after today's run at Cheltenham. Been a great servant and a pleasure to train". ~ Paul NIcholls http://www.racingpost.com/news/horse...un/804122/top/ http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/n...CING_Will.html |

Pocket Power...
SA legend, winner of 9 G1s, Horse of the Year for three years in a row, winner of the J&B Met 3 times and of the Queen's Plate 4 times, the biggest earner in South African history. Hope he has a long and happy life. :) I'm sure there will be some nice tribute for him here... http://www.mikebassracing.com/home/default.asp Record... http://www.formgrids.co.za/subscribe...ZA&login=guest * * * Also retired, Musket Man... Hard trying guy... he'll be missed. |

Couldn't Care Less. He often lived up to his name. :) He retires with the unheard of rating of 10 which is the lowest I've ever seen. Cellar dweller, as they're called (Class 5), I just always really liked this horse. 4 wins in 67 starts, his final race was back on the 12th. Hope he's okay and that he can go somewhere nice. |

This is for anyone who was a fan of his...

I don't put all the HK horsies on this thread, only the more famous ones (cause there are so many retirements).
Anyway need to add this old guy, Watch What Happens. He came to HK from France where he had been trained by Fabre and had a record of 2 wins and 2 places (one 4th) from 5 starts. Nice horse. He got to keep his name (most of them are changed) and was sent to Woods who is a fantastic trainer. He went to the old Nad Al twice but didn't do well in Dubai... I believe he had 45 HK starts total. Anyway, hope he gets to go somewhere nice. Happy retirement. |
Darn it.

I like Misremembered.
I hope my name is listed on this thread one day. ;) |
Maram...
http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...-maram-retired Daytona... http://www.drf.com/news/hollywood-pa...r-mervyn-leroy Big Maverick (SIngapore... he's going home to NZ). :) Guan Dao (the strikingly beautiful, former Starofken who just never seemed to do well in HK) and the beloved old guy Packing Winner who is a member of the illustrious Hong Kong Top 50 (rated at 117 which means he retires in the 23rd spot). |
Master BB Best, Esquire (shut up I love him)...

Happy retirement to Jackpot Delight... one of my favorite HK guys even if he didn't win much.
He was from NZ and raced for Peter Moody as Hamlet's Ghost. He won his first 5 in a row (and I mean some of these fields were really big... 13, 16 horses) and then was 4th in his 6th start. Sent to HK he was given a pretty high rating and ran in mostly G1 and class 2 races. He hasn't done too well since the end of the 2009 season so here's hoping his connections (who own all the "Delight" horses) send him back home or somewhere nice. :) He retires with a rating of 105. * * * For the sake of keeping this up to date we need to add Brass Hat. http://www.derbytrail.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42423 |
He was known as Comic Strip and won 5 of 7 while trained by Sir Mark Prescott.
Bought by the infamous gazillionaire Dr. Stanley Ho of Macau casino fame, he was sent to Hong Kong and re-named... Viva Pataca was the grandest of the Viva horses (Viva Macau who had been Dilek and trained by A. de Royer-Dupre in France and who I loved :) ) and Viva Hong Kong who was the former Kid Mambo and winless in HK as well as a few other, lesser-knowns) and he had had 13 wins (13-5-10 from 44) and raced strictly at the highest levels. In his day he beat home champions like Vengeance of Rain, Bullish Luck, Admire Moon, Lizard's Desire, Never Bouchon, Sight Winner, Egyptian Ra, Floral Pegasus, Good Ba Ba, Best Gift and Super Kid. He retires with a rating of 117 which puts him at #22 on the current Top 50. He's 9 years old and, I'd imagine, there will be an official farewell ceremony for him at Sha Tin before he's shipped off to I-don't-know-where. He was the Horse of the Year for 2008/2009. Happy retirement and thanks for the memories. :) |

Champion and one of the last remaining members of the old guard, Horse of the Year Good Ba Ba...
I'd usually write something about such a brilliant horse but alas... his fans know his record and his Group 1 wins and those who don't? Well you missed watching a great. Happy retirement to one of the most beloved old men in HK! http://www.hkjc.com/english/racing/O...=E201&search=1 * * * Unrivaled Belle (for the sake of keeping this up to date)... http://www.derbytrail.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42748 |
