Early Speed

Wow - looks like an awful lot of early speed in the race...hope Ausable doesn't get cooked on the front end...wondering if she can rate at all and sit just behind the speed of Watkins Glen and Smokin Artie's Gal?

Race 2 Closer Look
By Paul Malecki

Sammzilla
Rail-drawn lass possesses the lowest Beyer ceiling; improved early zip led to Belmont score over 0-4 Galaxy Jet but at least 2 of these appear capable of beating her to the punch; we are dealing with filly out of 3-14 dam who's dropped 2 winners, including Great Gracie Dane (3-11, $107K); siding with others.

Smokin Artie's Gal
No one eclipses the Beyer this homebred put forth as speedy debut winner over more experienced even-money chalk Thunder Princess; daughter of 0-2 dam is full-sister to 2 winners, topped by $54K earner Smokin Conrad; another run-and-gun mission seems likely for 29% '10 barn although outside pressure looms from Watkins Glen; must consider.

Ausable Chasm
Pair of Belmont stakes debacles led to freshening by filly out of 0-6 dam; Alvarado becomes 5th different rider to pilot this lass in as many outings; speedy Spa grad over next-out (Finger Lakes) $139K Lady Finger winner Lady Vi has 2 bullets in holster for comeback yet faces stern fight for early supremacy; leaning another way.

Those Lion Eyes
Dropping in for tag for initial time led to popular score by daughter of 1-4 dam who's kin to 2 winners, including First Commandment (3-4, $70K); Prado replaces Castellano (Watkins Glen) aboard local main track victor over newcomer Silver Over Gold; Flying Zee Stables homebred has cracked exacta in all 3 sprint starts; dangerous with stalking trip.

Freuds On Holidays
The lone multiple winner is Mid-Atlantic shipper getting Dominguez in quest for hat trick; filly out of sp $53K earning dam is full-sister to Talk On the Street (2-22, $27K); Dutrow-trainee who earned LRL triumph over Romeo's Juliet (later won $10K claimer with 49 Beyer) needs Beyer boost to do it again; possible for slice with right kind of stalking journey.

Watkins Glen
Will wide slot prove a blessing or curse for this quick individual?; chestnut wired Those Lion Eyes at Belmont before running into solid foe as 6-5 Philly Park favorite (81 Beyer winner Hot Summer is 2-3 lifetime); daughter of sw dam of $265K is kin to sp $105K earner Pilanesberg; can't fault any taking positive view of this speedster.

Lloydobler's race fills and goes for Friday! #3 with Junior Alvarado facing 6 others..

Princess Doreen 12-29-2010 01:30 PM

Good luck to Zinger and Lloyd. Good journey to pilot, Junior Alvarado, to get these two to the wire first. To all who will be at Aqueduct for their races, hope it's warm days for you. Have fun! Let's make some money.

Race 1 Closer Look
By Brian Mulligan

Overtime Danny Boy
Aro one for 20 the last 5 years with MSW to maiden claiming moves; even on the drop, this is a tough sell as he was crushed the other time for a tag; the winner that day repeated in a $25K N2L, then lost next several; place horse in the February finale has won twice since, the last in a $16K N2L claimer in July; no speed, no asset; can't endorse.

Vamel
Good luck here; just too many chances to get overly excited about; can't be too happy about the beats vs. much softer either; he can flash zip at times, but has not done that since the 2010 opener; passing.

Lloydobler
Trainer 5 for 45 the last 5 years with MSW to maiden claiming moves with a median winning price of over $24; not a ton of speed in this fray so expect rider to send hard and hope for the best; he has the two races now to draw from and he ran okay on the surface early in the year; show horse 5/8 graduated 8 days later, was 2nd beaten just over a length in a N2L allowance since; connections would love to see him act like G3 winning over $200K half bro Sky Terrace.

Iguazu
Brown 2 for 14 the last 5 years with second off the layoff maiden claimers and 2 others ran 2nd; nice bit of training to have this guy fire off the extended layoff; note show horse was well clear; 4 for 12 dam banked almost $125K; both siblings won multiple times; top earner Boxer Shorts took 2 of 25, banked almost $65K; all systems go.

Komisarek
Nice rally last time despite bobbling when appearing to take a bad step; the stablemate looms the lone speed here and this guy will have the closer duties today; winenr of the debut repeated in a N1X spot, was a well beaten 2nd in a $75K stakes and recently third in a $25K optional here on 12/9; dam lost 11 times; 3 siblings banked 6 figures, the best may have been near $125K earner Peter's Puddles; strange work pattern with near month gaps, try to get a good look at this guy before teeing it up.

Forty Prayers
Soph has teased several times, should have his sea legs under him by now; like fact he flashed a bit more zip last time; slight improvement and he'll have a say in the outcome.

Baatesh
McLaughlin 6 for 32 the last 5 years with sophs making the MSW to maiden claiming move and 6 others ran 2nd; sometimes you either have to fish or cut bait; well, they are cutting on this $400K purchase; he seemed on the verge after missing by a neck upstate but runner really through in a clinker last time; winner 9/4 repeated in a N1X at Keeneland, won a $50K optional here, and was 4th beaten a length and a half in a Calder G3 on 12/4; place horse in last graduated in a MSW, held on by a head in a N1X spot with a 88 Beyer here 12/11; half sis and over $300K earner Resplendency was SP at 5; contender, far from a cinch.

Great news for all those involved money wise. Bad news for NYRA and racing, I guess this is why it took forever to write the race. Best of Luck to all !

Many Others 12-30-2010 11:48 AM

odd things sometimes seem to happen in these four-horse races, and nope there's nothing wrong with a paycheck - have the vid on looks like a decent sunny day there - safe trips and good luck Ausable and Dee Tee !

pweizer 12-30-2010 11:59 AM

A complete non-factor in fourth. No one was beating the winner but I had hoped to see something more from this effort.

Paul

freddymo 12-30-2010 12:03 PM

Shame that was a good spot with only 4 in the race.

SuffolkGirl 12-30-2010 12:05 PM

hmm, interesting effort. Anxious for Steve's report. And boy was Smokin' Artie's Gal quick.....

Kasept 12-30-2010 04:15 PM

Just back from barn where Ausable returned well. Cut her left hind at the coronet but otherwise 100% fine and energetic. Junior said she felt great but wouldn't run up at all when asked. Very frustrating for her to work the way she has the last three weeks and then be so tentative in a race.

The first thing to do is take the blinkers off, which Gary had considered for today. But since she had been so sharp working in them, he was inclined to give her another chance with them. But working alone in blinks with no horses around is very different than in a race, and she may want to see things happening around her as opposed to hearing them. Certainly there is no benefit to continuing with the blinkers after the 2 non-efforts in them.

Let's see if she perks up in another main track try 'hood off'. If she doesn't, we'll take Feb-March off and come back in spring looking for grass.

wally09 12-31-2010 04:57 AM

Let's go Lloyd !! Good luck to all today...safe trip for Lloyd and all travelling

flipsal 12-31-2010 08:54 AM

hoovesupsideyourhead 12-31-2010 11:25 AM

gl to dr paul also a 3/5 finish would be great :$:

if dt beats darley ill laugh my ass off

freddymo 12-31-2010 11:34 AM

Not a bad run he just wouldnt change leads..

pweizer 12-31-2010 11:35 AM

Another fourth but this was not a bad effort. Lloyd had tons of traffic troubles and was still trying at the end. Definately something to build on.

I wouldnt call it a ton of trouble and he certainly was clear long enough to make his run and didnt. He wouldnt change leads and didnt like the dirt hitting him in the face. He seems to have lost his gate speed which he had earlier in his career. There is still class relief available.

1.13 for 6f's lets see the rest of the days 6f results

The gals went 1.12.2 so I dont think the 1st race is going to get much of a BSF..Unfortunately

bigdog_14086 01-04-2011 07:19 PM
