End of life discussions? Planning directives on how a patient wants to be treated if they're unable to communicate that later on?

Scandalous stuff, I tell you!

Doctors and patients being responsible and smart, together talking about end of life care isn't really that big of a deal. Nobody ever said that wouldn't happen, because they'd have to be a total moron to think that because it's been happening forever, and it's the right conversation to have -- but of course, THAT wasn't what you meant by your subject line of this thread, because that would make far, far too much sense. The good news for Sarah Palin (and you, by starting this thread), is that now you all get to yell and scream and get paid attention to by idiots dim enough to believe that THIS article has anything at all to do with what you're all going to pretend it does.

Carry on!

Please. I had dinner with my parents tonight, whom Faux News has convinced this is the end of the healthcare world. Even though both have regular insurance Medicare supplement, Medicare, Rx Supplement, and advanced directives. How they got through that without being put to sleep by the government is a miracle! :D :zz:

Seriously - which part of this is supposed to be the nightmare 2010 Political Lie of The Year, Government Takeover of Healthcare and "Death Panels"? (other than what is really happening under Governor Jan Brewer today?)

Quote:

Under the new policy, outlined in a Medicare regulation, the government will pay doctors who advise patients on options for end-of-life care, which may include advance directives to forgo aggressive life-sustaining treatment.

[Edit: or - gasp! - may include advance directives desiring all aggressive life-sustaining treatment. Patients choice]

The final version of the health care legislation, signed into law by President Obama in March, authorized Medicare coverage of yearly physical examinations, or wellness visits. The new rule says Medicare will cover “voluntary advance care planning,” to discuss end-of-life treatment, as part of the annual visit.

They remind me of Bama fans who disliked Franchione but loved Shula.

What they need is a swift slap to the face and a stern STFU.

What - exactly - do you dislike about Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act? That children can now remain insured on their parents policies until they are 26? That sick children cannot be kicked out of being insured for life due to exceeding a "lifetime cap of benefits" by the time they are eight years old? That your insurance company can't suddenly deny a claim based upon a pre-existing condition?

There are some good points to this stuff. The point that I am against this bill is why should a unemployed person who isn't looking for work get another free handout. Won't they be covered under this bill? Im hoping it doesn't happen. It won't be fair to the working people who have to support trash like that. I heard that unemployment benefits are now a taxable item.

Easy, the fact the government is forcing the healthy and fit to pay for the unhealthy and obese disguised as mandatory coverage and subsidization. Next?

:zz: Not really any differently than they are today via Medicaid. The bill expands Medicaid availability to those earning up to 133% of the federal poverty level.

dellinger63 12-28-2010 06:13 PM

lol but I'm sure she has an independent Blue Cross policy thru her bizness.

IMO Guide and console her to death now and save a fortune! I just spoke democrat!

Right now, and for the past several decades, the healthy and fit pay for the unhealthy and obese. This will decrease those costs. GASP!

"Disguised as mandatory coverage and subsidization" that makes no sense. You'll have to use the Dell Detranslator to rephrase what you are trying to say.

I suppose you don't know that there is, specifically and deliberately written into the bill, zero ability to collect any penalty for not purchasing insurance.

What is your view on a worthless unemployed person not looking for a job getting another handout? Do you think it's fair to all of the working people and the unemployed people who are actually trying to find work? Also I am curious what the premiums are going to be. Im just glad I won't be using that worthless insurance.

How about a worthless person stealing our money by collecting a government pension??? Why should the government still be paying pensions when nearly every company has done away with them and switched to 401-K?

People have paid taxes on their unemployment benefits for years. Not new. The taxes can be withheld.

Do you get government VA healthcare as a result of your military service? A government pension?

(and if you do, I think you deserve every penny, and more, for serving our country)

What would you say to giving up, say, half of those benefits? Because we're broke.

I think there certainly are "worthless unemployed not looking for a job but rather for a handout", but they are not much more than the usual small baseline minority present even in a thriving economy.

We could shoot them in the street, if only we could identify them. Maybe you could come up with a way? I mean, other than what the programs do now to try and identify them?

Says the woman who thinks an American has the same risk of being a terrorist as a Saudi, boarding a plane. You were right once in the last 5 years. Obama does 'get it' just as Carter did.

Do you value the service of military troops equal to Fed court security guards (aka Marshalls)?

:zz: No I don't. Geesh, Dell, you'd think that after a couple years in this room, you'd pay some small bit of attention and have a clue. You don't. You don't even know enough to be able to argue your own side of an issue effectively :D

I dont use the VA healthcare. I would rather let a person who got discharged because of something happening to them in Iraq use the VA healthcare. Yes I do get a pension. We are in agreement that I earned it. The government could take away the VA healthcare and it won't hurt me. It has been over two years since the last time I went to the VA.
