the woodward
1--Wild Desert (Edgar Prado, 126)
2--Papi Chullo (Eibar Coa, 126) 3--Suave (Calvin Borel, 126) 4--Naughty New Yorker (Jose Santos, 126) 5--Sun King (Julien Leparoux, 126) 6--Flower Alley (John Velazquez, 126) 7--Second of June (Garrett Gomez, 126) 8--Premium Tap (Kent Desormeaux, 126) 9--Andromeda's Hero (Fernando Jara, 126) 10--Funny Cide (Richard Migliore, 126) 11--Wanderin Boy (Javier Castellano, 126) funny cide will scratch if it's wet, wanderin boy may scratch if it's dry!! sun king has finished second or third in six grade ones, is this going to be his first? i don't think it will, as he's a huge bounce candidate. nny--bah. suave--looking like my pick right now flower alley---who's going to show?? will the real flower alley please stand up?! wouldn't bet him with someone else's money. may beat them for fun, but who's very confident about his chances after his last? premium tap, would add in any exotics. don't think he'll come in on top, but that he'll be there. andromeda's hero--hey, graded placed isn't a bad thing to have on a resume. no win bets on this guy..... |
forgot about wild desert, i chose him to win before, and he did....but not here. another to use in exotics.
|
Looks like a two horse race to me...Sun King and Flower Alley. Suave looks possible if you can get past Calvin Borel winning a grade one. Love Funny Cide but the outside post isn't good...even in the pick 6 contest, I'll probably stick with 2 horses here.
|
What if Papi Chullo "somehow" drills this bunch?
Surely you got to like J. Buenaventura Vargas over Pletcher, Zito, Tagg..:D |

waiting on odds, but think suave is the one here. UNLESS flower alley is in top form. but i have no confidence in this horse right now. |

Funny Cide and Naughty New Yorker were entered in the wrong race ...
... they belong in the Gen. MacArthur ... next week at Belmont ... 8f for New York-breds. Someone please point this out to Tagg and Kelly. |
2nd of June finally fulfills the promise he showed at 3. This is a very consistant colt......

Sun King finally wins one for The Nicker.

I would like to see a trainer other than Pletcher, Dutrow or Zito when the last really huge race of the meet. Gosh I am sick of those guys. Anybody but them.

i think suave is your winner, seems a contentious field, i'd imagine you could make an argument for several in here. |

It'll be total rain tomorrow. So FC will scratch and who knows who else. They'll seal the track, puddles and mud everywhere. And this is better than poly , which is basically the same rain or shine ?
:D :D i had to get that dig in there, lol  but it's true |
the horses who invariably get the most respect are those who can win over any type of track....weather is one of many factors.
wanderin boy would be a scratch if it stayed dry, funny will scratch if it's wet. so either way, one of two will be happy. hey, maybe they can concoct polyturf next, never an MTO entry again.... |
Do it !! And take a patent out on it...
|
i'm not a big fan of polytrack. too soon to tell exactly what affects it will have long-term. i think too many have jumped too quickly on that bandwagon. we already have a surface known to be kinder to a horse than running on dirt, and it's all-natural. TURF!
|
no one likes wanderin boy. I think he has a shot at a price especially if the conditions are poor. He will certainly have the lead.
|
i wouldn't say no one. if it's sloppy a bunch of people will be liking him!
|
Woodward..........
Sun King could just get home first this time, call me crazy but I have a good feeling about Premium Tap! Just a crazy hunch, that problably won't run a step LOL! Off to make selections, later all good luck!
|
I'm either going to be very happy or very sad going with WILD DESERT here...I think he can sit off the pace, he's done reasonabily well in the 'wet' and I have a feeling this is the one Dutrow wanted. (and every time I ignore a horse ridden by Prado who is on the 'cusp' of my selections, he burns me! lol)
A big Booo on Tagg if he scratches...Funny is 2-1-1 out of 5 starts in the Wet. Show us the Derby winner! :D |
i don't understand why tagg is threatening to scratch if it's wet. as you said, fc has done well in the mud.
so, it's raining...need to adjust my pick 6 contest selections...and wild desert will be one i add, as is wanderin boy. no to premium and sun king. |

Poor, poor Funny Cide ... once again victimized by the egomaniacal, glory-hungry Sack-o-kaka syndicate. This brave and game ... and once-talented ... gelding belongs ... as I pointed out nearly two years ago ... strictly in New York-bred stakes races ... or ungraded open stakes races at second-tier tracks. But ... I guess once you've had the national spotlight shone on you ... it's difficult to control your overwhelming desire to get back into it ... no matter how embarrassing it is for your horse. Ain't that right, boys? |
What a yawn of a race.

Funny Cide is still a very nice horse. He had won two of his last three, one of which was a $180K grade 3 race. He belongs is grade 3's and grade 2's that don't come up tough. A weak grade 1 like today is still too much for him. The $250,000 Hawthorne Derby (Grade III) in a few weeks is likely his next race. He should have a great shot there. |

just think all the wins he could have, all the good press, if he was just spotted correctly..they spot him right, he wins and rewards them, and they go nuts. think he's something he no longer is....it's a shame.
i have a lot of respect for the horse, not near as much for his trainer, and none for the owners. they remind me of the goose that laid the golden egg story, he ends up killing the goose to get what's inside that makes the gold....no more gold. |

Thankfully you are not racing manager for Sackatoga. Even though they are pretty clueless at least they are running in races FC is eligible for. The Hawthorne Derby is for 3 year old Turf horses. |
